I was treated terribly...

My girlfriend and I were recently in Vancouver to celebrate an anniversary, and opted to stay here, as it looked nice from what we saw on the web. When we checked in, I was told that they had no parking gate opener for me, but would the next morning. Because of this, the nice gentleman behind the counter told me that he wouldn't charge for the first night of parking. The next morning, I asked the French-Canadian woman who works here about acquiring a gate-opener and was told that "they are all out" and that she "might have one when a customer returns theirs, but mostly people steal them". She went on to rudely inform me that the man I spoke with the night before "should not" have given me free parking, and that she should charge me retroactively. I was left quite upset about this, but I walked away and made no more fuss. I wasn't about to let this woman and her bad attitude and lack of professionalism ruin my trip. I received a call in my room a couple of minutes later, and it was the same woman; I was expecting an apology, but instead she bluntly informed me that my car was "blocking another customer in". I went downstairs and looked the situation over. I was literally perfectly in the spot, but decided to back in another couple of inches to see if that would help (I didn't expect it would, and said so). I went to get some coffee, and about 1/2 hour, when I came back to the room, I received another call from the front desk, asking if I could completely remove my car from the lot to help the same customer (who had been trying to leave this ridiculous lot for probably an hour now!) evacuate. Well, by this time, I was done with this place. I checked out right away, but because my card had been charged (!) in advance (the first time I have ever seen this done in years of hotel stays) for 4 nights, I was informed that I could not get a partial refund (for 3 nights) until the manager could be contacted. After this, it took 2 days and probably 10 calls with many promises to get back to me-all unfulfilled-to get my refund. Whatever you do... stay far away from this place.

Top Local Tips for Vancouver

Suspension Bridge I got a tip from Cecile, the manager of the Victorian Hotel: Lynn Canyon with the Lynn Canyon Suspension Bridge. It is not as long as the Capilano Bridge but you don't have to pay for it and the surroundings are adorable!

Sightseeing tours If you haven't got a lot of time to explore on your own and you want to pack in some sightseeing, I highly recommend West Coast Sightseeing. I had an awesome tour guide on two consecutive days and it really made my trip. Especially recommend a day-trip up to Whistler - incredible scenery.

Things not to miss in Vancouver Don't miss the Lynn Canyon suspension bridge and hike through the temperate rainforest. It's free to go there and it is absolutely beautiful. I wish we would have had time to go to the Capilano suspension bridge, but because of the high price to walk across the bridge, we chose Lynn Canyon. Also, don't miss Stanley Park! My daughter I walked around the entire park and also walked on some of the trails. It's a spectacular park with great scenery.
