Historical Traveller Reviews of Ramada Inn & Suites Hotel

Great value for the money!

from dsc434232
I normally have stayed at the Marriott or Hyatt when in Vancouver, but was looking for a better price point this trip. Although the Ramada isn't luxurious by any means, it's newly renovated and in easy walking distance of restaurants, grocery stores, and Downtown Vancouver, and right on the line of the Airporter shuttle. It was nice to be staying in an active area, as opposed to an area like Hastings St. (where the Renaissance and Marriott are) which is deserted after business hours.

My room was generously sized, especially the bathroom, and faced an interior courtyard. While the view was a bit plain, it was great in terms of having no street noise at all, and the wireless internet worked perfectly. I also found the staff to be really friendly when it came to helping with luggage and directions.

This hotel comes highly recommended if you are looking for functional, high-value accommodation in a central area.

satisfactory, nothing amazing

from djpiebob
this hotel has a nice lobby, a good irish pub/restaurant downstairs, and is fairly centrally located to shopping and nightclubs in downtown vancouver. the rooms are very small, although the bathroom was large and newly renovated in my king room. the bed was rather hard, but not terrible.

although the wireless access point was apparently right above my room (6th floor), the signal was very weak, and i could not maintain a connection. the signal was much stronger in the excellent pub downstairs, however.

the area was somewhat sketchy, but not scarily so. lots of cheap places to eat in the area. the club next door, ginger sixty two, is super trendy. parking at the hotel was reasonably priced, although i did check on my car each time i went by a side window, just in case.

i would probably stay here again, although i'm tempted to try somewhere else in the area next time, just for variety.

Hotel not bad, lousy area

from lazy_diver
Apart from the use of violently-scented airfresheners in the corridorsand some small rooms, there's nothing wrong with this hotel, and it is not as bad as some of the reviews here suggest. On the plus side are the staff: friendly, willing and constantly at your service. On the minus side is the location: this is at the rough end of Granville, and while it is convenient for the island market, for Gastown and for Downtown, you have to be careful - there are a lot of clubs in the area and a number of down-and-outs. It's busy and noisy up until about 4 a.m. On the other hand, I've stayed at a lot worse hotels for a lot more money so I saw 'take a chance!'

Great location!

I stayed at the Ramada Inn Downtown Vancouver in March and I really enjoyed my stay at the hotel. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The location of the hotel was conveniently located to restaurtants, nightlife, shopping and the hotel staff was one of the most friendliest that I ever encountered. Ginger the attached cocktail lounge was very chic and trendy. I can't wait to go back. Vancouver was amazing!

Great Economy Convention Hotel

from trvltheworld
I stayed recently for a convention being held at the Wall Center. Convention rates are always too high and the Ramada offered more economical rates with all the amenities I needed. They offered complimentary Wireless Internet and a free lobby business center. I was able to addon breakfast for $7 a day (Full HOT breakfast). They have a restaurant and probably the best hotel lounge I have ever been too. In fact other delegates came to my hotel bar instead of staying at their own lounge.

Parking rates are reasonable and about half the cost of the bigger hotels. Consider staying here instead of paying HIGH convention rates. Everything is a short walk away and you'll be glad you did.

I have business in Vancouver about 4 times a year and I will definately be back.

Not a good choice.

I booked online and two other couples we were travelling with booked thru an agent. We booked the rooms after our Alaskan cruise and were very disappointed since we stayed at the Hampton Inn before our cruise. The rooms are very small - but you could hold a party in the bathroom. We did not stay long because the other couples were gauranteed kings and there were none to be had. They moved us all to the 500 Crown something which was a much nicer hotel. I would not recommend this hotel. There are much better ones for the money.

Great Location and they even filmed a movie here

from greatdancer
My wife and I stayed at the Ramada for a few days before our cruise and we were very pleased with our decision.

The staff was wonderful from the start. They were filming a movie in the restaurant during our stay which took up the entire parking lot so they had a valet attendant (nice aussie boy) who looked after car for us and even took the luggage into the hotel for us. Someone took our luggage to own room while we checked in so it was there when we arrived. The hotel is a little older and the rooms a touch small but when I asked for a bit larger room overlooking the street, they were great in getting it set up and again moved our luggage for us. It was nice to have wireless internet during our stay as I always travel with my laptop now (helps in planning on the road). The room we stayed in had all the standard amenities and was very clean.

Unfortunately the Morrissey Restaurant was closed for filming (Very Unique little Irish Pub) but the hotel had arranged for Complimentary breakfast across the street at a little place called Two Parrots.

Being on Granville Street and having read the reviews just before we left I was a little concerned that we had made a bad choice in location but we didn't have any problems in the area and never felt unsafe. In fact, there were more people "aggressively" begging for money on Robson Street (the main upscale shopping district).

Vancouver, much to our surprise, we found had a very open policy to drug use very much like Amsterdamn, but that was closer to the cruise ship terminals in the area between Gastown and Chinatown and should be avoided. (not a good area).

We will stay again and we suggested this place to friends taking an Alaska Cruise later in the summer. Don't be so closed minded, this is a Safe area an a great hotel.

Not as bad as expected

My husband and I were very concerned after reading reviews about staying in this hotel, but we were pleasantly surprised with our stay. It is not a grand hotel by any means, but we found it to be clean, safe and convenient. You cannot beat the price. The hotel staff was very friendly. There are many adult-shops and clubs in the vicinity but at no time did we feel unsafe, even late at night. You cannot find anything else comparable downtown for the price.

I absolutely hated this place. The hotel is in a seedy part of town. Street noise from night clubs on main drag is unbelievably loud and kept us up all night. Lack of insulation allowed us to hear the coversation of every guest walking down the hall. The floors squeek like crazy. Extremely small rooms packed with furniture so that you can barely turn around. Musty smell permeates every floor and the hotel tries cover it up with a perfumey odor piped in through ventilation system. The pillows smelled like they had not been laundered (yuk). Didn't see any cockroaches but you can bet I was looking. The dread of coming back to our dreary hotel at night hung like a black cloud on our trip. We were relieved to check out early and spend the last two nights in a terrific hotel. This Ramada should be avoided at all costs.

this hotel rocks, eh?

from A TripAdvisor Member
Yes, the rooms are small. But it is in a historic building. It would be against the law to modify the rooms at all. Also, Vancouver is a remarkably safe town. Even at night it is perfectly safe to walk around and enjoy the city.

This hotel is an amazing bargain, with a great location. Walking distance to GM Place, BC Place, and the Underground Mall. This is possibly the greatest deal in Vancouver.

Chinatown Boss Bakery and Restaurant Very good Chinese food in Chinatown. Recommended by the dressmaker. The noodles were scrumptious. Cash only.

Vancouver has alot of attractions and night life. China Town and Stanley Park were great! If you have a car, plan on going to Whistler.

Great Walking, Biking and Jogging Trail around the perimeter of Vancouver A great, walking/jogging/biking trail Yaletown to the other side of Vancouver. This trail goes all the the way around Stanley Park and it's paved!!
