Stay Away, Stay Far Away

We reserved the two bedroom Garden Suite at $249 CD a night. We arranged to have our dog come with us. There was no formal check in other than giving us some keys. We had our three kids as well. You can imagine our surprise when we checked out when we were charged an additional $120 Cd for kids, a $50 Cd charge for the Dog, and $50 Cd charge for parking in the alley. None of these charges were mentioned when we checked in and when I protested the charges the owner said you must not be able to read, it is one the website. On top of that he said he would call the police if I did not pay the bill. When we got home we checked the website again and there was only a mention that there may be a charge for additional persons and that dogs would be permitted with permission. Fortunately, Visa is around to protest the charges. Stay Away.

Travel by Air Transat We flew from Gatwick by Air Transat to Vancouver - 9 3/4 hours. AirTransat booking in was very smooth but DON'T go over the weight allowance - you will get stung for it !!! On the 'plane, limited legroom, and rubbish food, so take snacks to eat, and make sure you get a set of headphones, as we didn't on the way out and had to lip-read for 4 films.....! On the way back, our flight was delayed by 9 hours due to the plane being diverted to Cuba, or something like that, to collect hurricane escapees. I have to say, Air Transat were great, putting us up in a local hotel, and givig us a $20 meal voucher which paid for a huge buffet meal the hotel put on. Even the guy who picked us up at 3.30am to take us back to the airport was happy and smiling - staff everywhere in Vancouver are SO helpful. The couple behind us pad £110 excess baggage fine going back, for being 22 kilos over ( how do you do that ? ) their joint personal allowance of 240kilos plus12 kilos hand luggage ( as at Sept 2008 )

Rapid Transit in Vancouver It is the best way to get around - especially with the Olympics starting in 2010. Bring lots of money - you will need it here.
