I love Vancouver and the Opus hotel

6 days vacation in one of the most pleasant and coolest cities in the world, Vancouver. Opus hotel is certainly one of the nicest trendy hotel: perfect location perfect in Yaletown, very nice room (top quality sheets) with beautiful design, excellent service, great bar. Opus hotel is so cool that I must have stayed 2 weeks! The only thing that I didn't like so much is the too traditionnal design of the elixir bistro restaurant.
I would also recommend the Metropolitan hotel where I stayed two years ago, located near the Vancouver art gallery and Robson street, more conventionnal than the Opus but very pleasant also (with very nice rooms).

We stayed here in July 2004 for the first four days of our honeymoon and couldn't have picked a better hotel if we'd tried. Our 'green' room was stylish and spotless and we loved the underfloor heating! The bar was trendy but relaxed and the meal we had in the Elixir restaurant couldn't be faulted. It's conveniently located in the heart of Yaletown within strolling distance to Gastown or Chinatown. I don't understand comments others have made about the staff as they were extremely friendly and efficient when we were there. I'd go back like a shot and recommend The Opus to anyone wanting a wonderful break in this exciting city. Sorry for sounding like a marketing brochure, but it really was a lovely hotel.
Fabulous Hotel in a Fabulous City

We have planned our forthcoming trip to Europe using TripAdvisor hotel user recommendations, but staying at the Opus was to be our first actual test, and we couldn't have been more pleased with both TripAdvisor and the Opus. All the positive comments that preceed are very accurate, and any negatives, as far as we are concerned, are unfounded. The staff was friendly (beautiful!) and very accommodating, upgrading us without asking and tending to our needs. The rooms are well designed with comfy beds, down comforters and pillows and fluffy white towels. If you want to be in a hip, happening neighborhood, Yaletown is the place, with good access to all parts of the city. Also, if a full breakfast is not what you're looking for at Elixir, try the cafe, with access from the lobby...they make great coffee and have plenty of muffins from which to choose your morning nibbles. For our next trip to Vancouver, the Opus will be our choice.
Great hotel, great city

We stayed at the Opus for 6 days in June 2004 having got a good deal on expedia for about 190CAD/night. It was great: the rooms, though not very large, are beautiful, spotlessly clean and well equipped. Yaletown is a great location and the hotel is surrounded by cafes, restaurants and upscale shops, a short walk from the ferries over to Granville Island and within easy reach of the main shopping areas. Indeed the hotel's own bar seems to be THE place to be seen for Vancouver's pretty young things at the weekend. The staff, who are equally as pretty as the decor surrounding them, were generally very friendly and helpful. The hotel guide was well written and contained useful insights on Vancouver life instead of the usual listing of tourist traps.

- GREAT location in Yaletown with everything you need right out the front door ...... shopping , bike paths by the water, night life , dinning ..... and the list goes on.

I chose the Opus for a weekend getaway for my wife's birthday, hoping that its hipness would come with maximum fun and minimum attitude, and that the neighborhood would prove more interesting than city center. YES and YES.
First, the hotel: it's great-looking, really unique, though our room was a bit too stark to be cozy. (Note to management: if a big soft sofa would ruin the aesthetic, at least consider putting a Lava Lamp in each room -- fits your style, and adds the humor that your decor needs!) And the service was superb. In a place like this you'd expect the staff to have that you're-lucky-we're-serving-you attitude, but no -- they were extremely friendly and went out of their way to help. The room seemed spotless, too.
Second, the neighborhood: Yaletown is fun, with lots of interesting little boutiquey stores (with boutiquey prices) and plenty of good restaurants (we highly recommend Provence, 3 blocks down facing the water). Downtown seemed more conventional and less interesting as a home base.
So, who shouldn't stay here? Anybody who doesn't like quirky modernist design, or who needs to be right in the business center. (But it's close -- we walked through it to the Pan Pacific & ocean liner docks in about half an hour.) Or who doesn't want to have to cut through a line of beautiful twentysomethings waiting to get into the Opus's bar on a Saturday night. Or is uncomfortable with full-wall windows all through their hotel room, including the bathroom. (Yes, of course they have windowshades.) Other than that, go -- and see how a hotel can be ultra-cool and ultra-friendly at the same time.

The Opus was a pleasant surprise. One doesn't often find this level of sophistication or service at "trendy" hotels. The design was amazing and the service was flawless.

The accommodations, service, and chic decor of Opus rival the top boutique hotels of the world. The staff was attentive and most helpful with all of my requests. Yaletown offers great entertainment and nightlife. The in-house restaurant - Elixir serves exceptional global cuisine and the Opus bar is great for cocktails and meeting up with the locals. i would highly recommend it! From one fashionista to another- request the "Susan" room its spectacular.

This place could very well be the very next rodeo drive. We really enjoyed our stay at the little boutique hotel called Opus which is right in the heart beat of Yaletown. This little posh community even has its own affluent lifestyle magazine called the Yaletown View. If you go, check out this little sushi place called Honjin, great fresh sashimi.

I have stayed in many boutique hotels all over the world, and OPUS is everything you do NOT want in a boutique hotel. The room is ok, the food is ok but terrible terrible unfriendly staff. The whole experience was like B-Class Models with bubble thoughts: "I am too good looking to be opening doors for you or acknowledge your presence!" Seriously, there are other very good hotels in the city, go somewhere else. :-)
Top Local Tips for Vancouver
Airport If you are entering from another country - The trip from the plane to the passport check in is long - so don't bring heavy carry-on. THe line took about 35 minutes.
50 plus restaurants Yaletown is a trendy neighbourhood in Vancouver. It is home to approx 50+ restaurants. All sorts of variety to choose from.
first-timers to Vancouver suggest city tour. So much would be missed without this. Trip to Seattle-2 1/2 hr but be prepared to drive slowly. All 4 lanes are blocked. Passing lane not respected. Seattle market was en experience. Went to Chinese night market in Richmond-7pm- during summer months. Great food and stuff. ..judt like I experienced in Hong Kong.
