My wife and I spent four days in Vancouver at the Oceanside. The location is great, the accomodation was comfortable and the convenience of a suite with a kitchen was a plus for us. For budget travellers this is a good bet.
Grungy and Small

The picture on the net made this seem like a much nicer hotel than it actually was. This place actually had people living there full time.. cooking smells drifting all around. The room was small.. way smaller than the picture suggested and the sleeper sofa had springs poking you everywhere.. i kept expecting to see prostitutes popping into the hallway. It didn't have bugs crawling around hence my rating of a 2. Vacationers beware is all I have to say!

The Oceanside Suite Hotel is a converted apartment building right by English Bay. The 7 rating reflects its ideal location (west end Vancouver with numerous coffee shops, restaurants, walking distance to Stanley Park, downtown and the waterfront) and relatively inexpensive cost. The suite itself contained older furnishings - the only real complaint was the saggy mattress. After a visit to the Public Market (very close by) the fully equipped kitchen will be appreciated. I would recommend the Oceanside Suite for those who want to spend some time in Vancouver but aren't particularly concerned about hotel amenities.

Top Local Tips for Vancouver
Parking in British Columbia Be prepared to pay for parking. Most machines take only coins, some take credit cards. Everywhere we went had parking machines. They are strict on time enforcements in the few places that do not have pay parking. If the sign says two hours, expect a ticket if you exceed the time limit!
Visiting Stanley Park We drove into Stanley Park, which was pretty inconvenient and we wish we hadn't. I would recommend parking you car somewhere out near Denman street. We saw several bike rental shops. I think it would be great to bike the Stanley Park, allows for more sightseeing on your own time (vs. paying for parking and all that).
