good place but not more than that

from A TripAdvisor Member
Stayed here for two nights in early September. It was a good hotel. The staff were friendly and professional, but there is not much in the room to brag about. I feel that it is slightly over priced and the room my wife and I stayed in smelt old. A connection to the internet in your room is charged and local calls are not free. These are some of the things that should be included for the price you pay. The elevator is very slow. The bed is fantastic and the pool very nice. Also, the breakfast is wonderful. It is a safe bet for the mid range traveler who isn’t too bothered about style. The rooms aren’t as contemporary as I would have liked, but the stay was pleasant and the location excellent.

Loved the Met!

from GlobeTrotter
Stayed at the Metropolitan Hotel for 4 nights in Feb 2004. It was a wonderful choice....downtown, close to all the shopping (Pacific Centre Mall is across the Street and Robson St is about 5 mins walk), walking distance to all major attractions (including Canada Place and the Seabus Terminal). The skytrain stop is also a few minutes walk.

Took the Airporter bus from the Airport to the hotel (stops infront of the Crowne Plaza Hotel next door - $18 round trip)

The room was great. Had excellant views of downtown. The room itself was a reasonable size, very comfortable double bed, big TV and a very large en-suite bathroom with shower.

The gym was a bit on the small side but the pool (and the views from it) made up for it.

Staff were very friendly and helpful - gave lots of great advice on places to eat and visit (nice little bagel bar a round the corner)

On my last day I had lunch at the Diva at the Met restaurant - was very expensive.....however, it was one of the best pizza's I've ever had!

On my check-out - staff were very nice in letting me keep my luggage in my room until 3pm (as I left for the airport at 3.30pm), gave me a couple of extra hours shopping time!

Well recommended.

Elegant and affordable

This is a very fine hotel with understated elegance. It is a couple blocks in either direction to the art museum, Robson St., and Yaletown. The staff is friendly and service minded. I don't remember when so many doors were opened for me! The concierge was more than knowledgeable--he/they made ferry reservations, had driving routes pre-printed, and had valuable information about getting dining reservations (hint: eat at The Cannery!). The hotel's renowned restaurant--The Diva--is a four-star eating experience. I will definitely stay here when I'm in Vancouver again.

One of the Best Anywhere!

from A TripAdvisor Member
I spent three nights at the Metropolitan in late July. The building looks rather nondescript from the outside, but I found my room to be spacious, beautiful, and impeccably-clean. The decor was rich but not gaudy, with a vast expanse of wood paneling, large windows, and huge mirrors. The king bed was very comfortable with an excellent comforter and linens. The pool/ gym area was lovely.

The service is prompt, friendly, and very detail-oriented. Additionally, the hotel is in a perfect location for exploring Vancouver on foot. The SkyTrain line is only a block away, and the SeaBus terminal only 3 or 4 blocks.

The only negative point: I found the hotel's "Diva" restaurant to be overpriced and overrated. Go eat at the Rain City Grill instead.

Great Value, Charming Hotel

from Carruth
The Met added greatly to our 3 romantic days in Vancouver this summer. We will most definitely return to this hotel. To start with, what a great location! Right downtown. The rooms were lovely and well-appointed. We had a small balcony that overlooked the city. The bath was not large (but not tiny either) and had attractive stone surfaces. The bed was excellent, with soft linens and down duvet. We received some delightful personalized service upon our arrival, and excellent concierge service during our stay. Within 2 weeks of our stay, the manager sent us a personal letter to acknowledge what we had written on our comments card (we had one minor issue with getting refills on items in our room, which they apologized for and pledged to improve), and I think they deserve credit for that kind of follow-up. The hotel restaurant is reputedly one of the best in the city, and our fantastic dinner there was one of the highlights of the trip. All around, an above average experience.

Beautiful, friendly and convenient hotel

from zoesmom2
My husband, 4-year old daughter and I stayed at the Metropolitan in early July. We were pleasantly surprised. The staff was wonderful and greeted our little girl with a stuffed animal at check-in. The room was very clean and was a nice size. I loved the amount of storage for clothing including the well thought out area to place your suitcase in order to unpack. It was built into the closet area so you didn't have to go too far to put your clothing away. The bathroom was ultra nice with separate tub and shower and tons of counter space. The location was central, right near the Art Museum and just a few blocks from all the shopping on Robson Street.

We were lucky to have continental breakfast at the Diva restaurant included with our room rate and were able to upgrade to full breakfast for a nominal fee. It was wonderful and probably the best eggs and bacon I've ever had. I was sorry to not have a chance to try their lunch or dinner menu.

You can't go wrong staying here.

Great hotel, and great service. The front desk, bellhops, and concierge were all great. Nice health club and a great location for touring the town by foot.

The restaurant is fun to experience at least once, but is very expensive. Rooms are tastefully decorated, and the bathrooms modern.

Would stay there again on subsequent trips, if the need is there.

cool, comfortable, discreet, and relaxing

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed here for 3 nights at the end of June 2004 and like some other reviewers did not make any unusual requests, but cannot fault the service, the location, the staff...
I feel that a good word to describe the hotel is discreet in a nice, old-fashioned, clubby way-with pretty much all that that implies. Everyone was friendly and professional and I'm sure would not have batted an eyelid at anything.

Last points:
The bed (and bedding) was amazingly comfortable-didn't want to get out of it.
The pool, though not huge, is a pleasant place to relax after doing whatever you've done through the day.

The last time I visited this hotel was over fifteen years ago when it was a Mandarin Oriental and I was too young to appreciate it- The Met has kept up high standards and restyled itself admirably well.

We'd definitely recommend this hotel!

Had a brief stay in late March and enjoyed it immensely. Service was great as was the room. From the crisp bed linens to the comfy amenities in the washroom, I would be hard-pressed to complain about anything (other than the rain).

Marvelous hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
What a marvelous hotel! A friend and I stayed there for two nights after some very tough business meetings near-by. The staff was both professional and warm, and greeted us by name each time we walked through the lobby. The room décor is subtle and sophisticated, the sheets are heavenly. I was grateful for 24 hour room service because I became ill during the stay. And the pool, with piped in music, is just lovely. I hope I get to Vancouver often so I can stay here frequently.

Top Local Tips for Vancouver

Shuttle needed This hotel does not have a designated Hotel Shuttle at the Airport. My cab was around $25 to $30.The Airporter does drop you off close to the hotel for I think around $15.00

Stanley Park Well worth while hiring bikes and cycling round the seawall in Stanley park. It is a lovely cycle particularly on a sunny day.

bring an umbrella... it rains a lot
