Historical Traveller Reviews of Hampton Inn Downtown Vancouver Hotel

Good Value - Good Location - Good Experience

from SummerA
I stayed here with my husband for two nights and definitely enjoyed the experience.

We had booked a King / Non-Smoking but because of my husband's frequent traveler status we were upgraded to a Jacuzzi suite which was a nice surprise.

We had a corner room on the 9th floor with a view of the city (good) and the Stadium (not so good). I would think that the higher floors would have more to see.

The room was nice sized and had a wall of windows on 2 sides - which I really liked. The decor was fine but the lighting in the bathroom was pretty bad.

The hotel provides free bottled waters each day, free internet access, and complimentary breakfast in the morning. All of which were good.
(Why do the "lower end" hotels provide these things for free when you have to pay for them at "higher-end" hotels? Shouldn't it be the other way around?)

The hotel's location is very good. The Marina, the AquaBus (a must try for visitors - go to Granville Island and stop at the Brewery), Yaletown, and Robson street are all within walking distance.

The staff was also very friendly and helpful.

I have no complaints at all and would definitely stay at this hotel again.

Exceeded our expectations!

We chose this hotel based on other reviews and we were so impressed! The location is very convenient for shopping, visiting Gastown, catching the aquabus to Granville Island or the skybus to other Vancouver destinations. Even though the hotel was relatively inexpensive the rooms were clean and well equipped, the staff was very pleasant and helpful, the building was very secure, the free breakfast was wonderful, and being provided with free bottled water and a daily newspaper was much appreciated. There was also an onsite fitness facility and rooftop patio - who could ask for more? I'm surprised that the hotel does not have a higher star rating. We will definitely come back!

Exceptional - On par with far more expensive hotels

Just spent 5 nights at the Hampton Inn in downtown Vancouver and I echo all of the glowing reviews here. Modern, well-appointed lobby and clean, lovely, comfortable rooms. Too many amenities to list that you'd normally expect from more expensive hotels. Helpful, friendly staff and great location. (A short walk - say 5-10 min. - to the busier blocks of Robson, but not bad. Close to Yaletown, as well.) And a terrific value to boot...will definitely stay there on our next visit to Vancouver.

Excellent choice in lodging

My wife and I went to Vancouver with my mother, my sister, our neice and a Japanese friend and reserved three rooms for the first weekend of April '05. My wife and I have stayed at four other places in Vancouver the last few years and were disappointed in every one of them. My sister and I did extensive research to find a hotel near the downtown with view rooms, one of them a suite, at a reasonable price. The Hampton Inn and Suites on Robson Street filled the bill.

As noted in previous reviews, the staff of this establishment went out of its way to be helpful again and again. My mom had a problem with the shower control on Saturday night after everybody in maintenance had gone home. A bellman volunteered to see what he could do, came up and fixed it in a few minutes, much to my mother's delight.

Our 14th floor suite was perfect for a six-person in-room "picnic" on Saturday night with goodies we picked up at the Granville Island public market. The other two rooms were also very nice and well-kept. We paid $6 a night for secure, underground parking, but we were not gouged with any other charges.

This is the first Vancouver hotel that my wife and I both would come back to a second time.

Highly recommended

My family and I (2 adults, 2 teens) spent a night at the hotel on the way to Whistler. We were supposed to have a suite, but the hotel asked us if we would switch to 2 adjoining rooms for the same total cost, which was OK with us. Our rooms weren't ready right when we arrived, but we didn't have to wait long. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and quiet, and the desk staff were very friendly and helpful. Parking was included (would have cost C$12.00/day, but we got comped because we switched out of the suite).

The location is very nice, right near the convention center. The room rate includes a buffet breakfast, which was quite good in spite of some rather strange eggs. The breakfast area got crowded, but it wasn't a big deal.

We would definitely go back.

Great Location

We stayed in the Hampton Inn & Suites last winter. It was ideally situated for shopping, monorail etc. The staff were excellent, very helpful and all very smartly dressed. The security was first class. The complimentary breakfast was excellent and the rooms were spacious and very clean. An excellent location for either business or tourism. The underground parking was quite expensive but you knew that your vehicle was secure.

Best Hampton Inn

from dritter
I stayed at this hotel for two nights in mid Dec 2004. I am a Hilton Honors gold and was upgraded to a suite on the 15th floor. This is an excellent property and is the best Hampton Inn I have ever stayed in. This Hampton is better than most full service Hiltons. I would highly recommend it.

Just the Best

Date of Visit: Dec 24-27th We had a lot of trouble deciding on a place to stay in Vancouver & wanted a 1b/r apt. After a lot of searching & reading reviews we settled on the Hampton & we were not disappointed.
This would have had to have been the best we stayed in on our 3week trip in Canada & California.
The front desk staff were the most courteous & helpful we found, check in was a slight glitch as room was not ready but we were immediately offered another room which we declined as we had seen the one that had been allocated to us which was on a high floor with excellent views.
We had a 1b/r apt with cooking facilities & FRIDGE which being from Australia where all accommodation types have a fridge we found this a bonus as we had found on previous visits to the States that fridges are not part of most accomodation.
Large bedroom with 2nd TV & free safe. Free continental breakfast (one of the best) & coffee always available in lobby.
Free shuttle service which we used nearly every day to either gastown, ferry to Granville Isl or ferry to Grouse Mtn.
The gym being on the 16th floor had great views, sauna, spa pool, lounge & well equiped for a workout.
Hotel was at the end of Robson but still only appprox 20min walk & around 15-20min to skyrail
Would highly recommemd could not fault at all.

Great hotel experience. Good value for money.

The Tripadvisor reviews were right on. We stayed at this Hampton Inn four nights Thanksgiving week and were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the room, service and complimentary breakfast. The hotel location at the foot of Robson was an easy walk to Yaletown, Downtown and Gastown. Dix BBQ & Brewery nearby was a great find. We'll be back.

We spent 6 weeks in the USA and Canada in a wide range of hotels. This hotel was the best in our opinion.

This hotel hadthe perfect combination of location, value and thoughtfulness. Everything we needed was at hand without the excessive prices (penalties) some hotels like to charge. I would encourage anybody thinking about visiting Vancouver to try this hotel, because for us it was just perfect.

Top Local Tips for Vancouver

Victoria If visiting Victoria and short on time, go on an organised day trip. They pick you up from the hotel and take you back.

Walk! All the guide books recommend the $8 per day public transport pass. My recommendation is don't - the main part of the city with most of the attractions is compact enough to walk everywhere.....assuming you are reasonably active.....we did Stanley park, Chinatown, Vanier Park, Granville Island and Canada Place in one day. Tiring but worth it......

Lynn Canyon Park Skip the overpriced Capilano suspension bridge, and visit the beautiful and FREE Lynn Canyon Park in North Vancouver, which features a similar span and beautiful redwood trails and water falls. A 20-minute Seabus ride, followed by a city bus (on which you can use your Seabus ticket), gets you there easily from downtown Vancouver.
