Historical Traveller Reviews of Hampton Inn Downtown Vancouver Hotel
Good Value - Good Location - Good Experience
from SummerAWe had booked a King / Non-Smoking but because of my husband's frequent traveler status we were upgraded to a Jacuzzi suite which was a nice surprise.
We had a corner room on the 9th floor with a view of the city (good) and the Stadium (not so good). I would think that the higher floors would have more to see.
The room was nice sized and had a wall of windows on 2 sides - which I really liked. The decor was fine but the lighting in the bathroom was pretty bad.
The hotel provides free bottled waters each day, free internet access, and complimentary breakfast in the morning. All of which were good.
(Why do the "lower end" hotels provide these things for free when you have to pay for them at "higher-end" hotels? Shouldn't it be the other way around?)
The hotel's location is very good. The Marina, the AquaBus (a must try for visitors - go to Granville Island and stop at the Brewery), Yaletown, and Robson street are all within walking distance.
The staff was also very friendly and helpful.
I have no complaints at all and would definitely stay at this hotel again.
Exceeded our expectations!
from A TripAdvisor MemberExceptional - On par with far more expensive hotels
from A TripAdvisor MemberExcellent choice in lodging
from A TripAdvisor MemberAs noted in previous reviews, the staff of this establishment went out of its way to be helpful again and again. My mom had a problem with the shower control on Saturday night after everybody in maintenance had gone home. A bellman volunteered to see what he could do, came up and fixed it in a few minutes, much to my mother's delight.
Our 14th floor suite was perfect for a six-person in-room "picnic" on Saturday night with goodies we picked up at the Granville Island public market. The other two rooms were also very nice and well-kept. We paid $6 a night for secure, underground parking, but we were not gouged with any other charges.
This is the first Vancouver hotel that my wife and I both would come back to a second time.
Highly recommended
from singflysmithThe location is very nice, right near the convention center. The room rate includes a buffet breakfast, which was quite good in spite of some rather strange eggs. The breakfast area got crowded, but it wasn't a big deal.
We would definitely go back.
Great Location

from Peggysue45This would have had to have been the best we stayed in on our 3week trip in Canada & California.
The front desk staff were the most courteous & helpful we found, check in was a slight glitch as room was not ready but we were immediately offered another room which we declined as we had seen the one that had been allocated to us which was on a high floor with excellent views.
We had a 1b/r apt with cooking facilities & FRIDGE which being from Australia where all accommodation types have a fridge we found this a bonus as we had found on previous visits to the States that fridges are not part of most accomodation.
Large bedroom with 2nd TV & free safe. Free continental breakfast (one of the best) & coffee always available in lobby.
Free shuttle service which we used nearly every day to either gastown, ferry to Granville Isl or ferry to Grouse Mtn.
The gym being on the 16th floor had great views, sauna, spa pool, lounge & well equiped for a workout.
Hotel was at the end of Robson but still only appprox 20min walk & around 15-20min to skyrail
Would highly recommemd could not fault at all.
Great hotel experience. Good value for money.

from kdtThis hotel hadthe perfect combination of location, value and thoughtfulness. Everything we needed was at hand without the excessive prices (penalties) some hotels like to charge. I would encourage anybody thinking about visiting Vancouver to try this hotel, because for us it was just perfect.
Top Local Tips for Vancouver
Victoria If visiting Victoria and short on time, go on an organised day trip. They pick you up from the hotel and take you back.
Walk! All the guide books recommend the $8 per day public transport pass. My recommendation is don't - the main part of the city with most of the attractions is compact enough to walk everywhere.....assuming you are reasonably active.....we did Stanley park, Chinatown, Vanier Park, Granville Island and Canada Place in one day. Tiring but worth it......
Lynn Canyon Park Skip the overpriced Capilano suspension bridge, and visit the beautiful and FREE Lynn Canyon Park in North Vancouver, which features a similar span and beautiful redwood trails and water falls. A 20-minute Seabus ride, followed by a city bus (on which you can use your Seabus ticket), gets you there easily from downtown Vancouver.
