Historical Traveller Reviews of Granville Island Hotel

Much better than Downtown

from A TripAdvisor Member
I found this hotel on Tripadvisor and as you can tell by the other reviews, it was PERFECT! My husband and I stayed here in Oct 2004 for part of our honeymoon. We were in one of the executive suites.

The location can't be beat. Granville Island is fun to walk around and has great food. As we walked through the much less interesting streets of downtown, I was so glad that we weren't talked into staying at the "luxury" ones there or in Gas Town.

Best things: Great views of the water, HUGE executive suites, really nice staff (I mean really nice), safe neighborhood feel, funky shops, great places to eat (we loved the Market and dinner at the Sand Bar.)

Would go back in a heartbeat!!

Good place to stay

We had the pleasure of staying at the Granville Island Hotel on our visit to Vancouver. The hotel and it's staff were very nice and helpful lining up tours. They allowed us to check in early. We found it to be a good location. We had a little trouble finding the hotel when we first arrived. Our directions to Granville Island were not the best. On the island, the market is a must see.

We very much enjoyed our stay.

We were travelling to Vancouver, Victoria, Tofino and Saltspring Island to look for travel and all our accommodation was researched thoroughly beforehand by me, looking for some fab places to stay during our trip. In Vancouver we stayed at the Listel and then to the Granville Island Hotel. Then over to Victoria where we stayed at the Rosewood, up to Tofino staying at Longbeach Island Resort, down to Saltspring Island staying at Hastings House, then final 2 nights in the Aerie Resort in Malahat region. In each place we booked the best rooms we could, penthouse or equivalent.

We stayed at Listel in one part of Vancouver for 4 nights and then for a different flavour we stayed in the Granville for 3 nights in the penthouse. We thoroughly enjoyed it. The room was massive and well-appointed with a very high ceiling, lovely fireplace and huge table with small fridge/microwave/kitchenette to prepare a few things from the local market if you want. The bed was very comfortable. There are two penthouse rooms. We had the right hand one facing the water which has fantastic views and a huge patio/balcony with chairs to enjoy if the weather is good. The views I think would be slightly better from the other penthouse but on either of them you'll enjoy the views of boats and skyscrapers. We were able to check in earlier than stated which was great and the front desk were chipper and helpful. We tried a breakfast which was fine. Location was superb! Definately check out Granville Island. It is really sweet and the public market is yummy yummy! Take an aqua bus across from the market across the water - it's pretty cheap and good fun. You can walk across Granville bridge but it's pretty long and dull but affords you a brilliant vantage for taking photos which we did. We'd definately stay here again and recommend the hotel to anyone.

Perfect spot for Vancouver

from A TripAdvisor Member
The Granville formed part of a two and a half week trip to Vancouver and the Islands. After a long journey from the UK, it was the perfect spot to unwind. Taking the waterbuses to other spots around False Creek was fun and the Island was small enough that you felt you could get to know it all while being in a big city. The Public Market was great for snacking and stocking up for our Island adventures. The room itself was a bit too hot and stifling in the afternoons, hence the star off, but otherwise the place was clean and well presented with extremely friendly and helpful staff. Well recommended!

Very Nice Hotel

Very nice hotel. Is the only hotel on Granville Island. Close to downtown, but not within walking distance (cabs are cheap though). But you can spend all day walking around and shopping on Granville Island. Hotel was very nice and clean. The patio on the bar/restaurant was incredible. We could have spent all afternoon drinking and enjoying the view of downtown and the boats. Rooms were a generous size, though a little dated (though very very clean). The hotel has an actual brewery that is enclosed in glass in one wing, very cool. Alltogether, its worth the price to stay a night or two of your Vancouver trip here and enjoy all Granville Island has to offer.

Love This Hotel!!

This is the cutest hotel! The whole Granville Island experience is wonderful! I really recomend trying this hotel especially if you have already stayed in Vancouver and want to try a new area and hotel. The food is really good as well so I would try the food in the restaurant! The rooms are modern and comfortable, very clean and quiet!

Highly recommended

I have stayed twice at this hotel during the past 4 weeks. We were warmly welcomed on check in and found the friendly staff to be very efficient and responsive to our needs. On each occasion we were fortunate enough to be allocated rooms on the second floor overlooking the water. We stayed in a regular room and also a suite and found both to be very pleasant. The location is fantastic with so much to do and see on the island and other locations just a short ferry ride away. I strongly recommend this hotel which offers excellent value for money and I would not hesitate to return again.

Very special

We stayed here for 4 nights in July/August and could not have been happier with our hotel. The position is excellent - convenient for downtown, but really pleasant to get away to - Granville Island is probably the nicest part of the city.

The breakfasts were beautifully fresh - if only I could get hold of that organic vanilla yoghurt in the UK!

Great location

2nd stay on the island and I have booked a return visit for next month. The hotel is lovely, it is a safe location with lots to see and do with easy access to most vancouver attractions by foot or ferry.

Great place to stay

We spent three nights here in July. Friendly staff, excellent food in the restaurant and Granville Island feels secluded but not islate4d. A really nice place to stay.

Top Local Tips for Vancouver

Traffic Traffic Traffic Try to travel on the roads as little as possible during rush hour. The Canada Line train is being constructed for the Olympics, and the roads are packed due to workarounds from the construction. I'd also recommend using mass transit.

Granville Island market Go for breakfast!

Maxie's is awesome! Great food, great drinks, great service. They served the best steak salad I've ever had.
