Exceptional service

I would like to thank the management and courteous staff for allowing my family and thousands of others the use of the Hotel's facilities prior to, during and after the Santa Claus parade on Sunday November 21st.

Fairmont not a great value despite location, hype

from A TripAdvisor Member
I was quite disappointed with the Fairmont Hotel...the rooms, while having a lovely view of the water, were not very comfortable or special in any way. Our bed did not have a high quality mattress. The prices are very high, so we would look for a better value for the money next visit. I do have to say, the Sunday morning brunch was worth the price, totally delicious, and every dish you could think of.....We also adored the house dog, a sweet lab, but she was hardly ever there....she goes home with a staff person, and has days off...so its tough to hook up, although she was advertised as 'being available to take out for walks !' Maybe you have to make an appointment when you make the reservation !

Elegant and classy, great location

I stayed there for a weekend last summer and enjoyed it very much. The lobby was fantastic, and the location is unbeatable. The rooms are spacious and the service excellent. It is a classic castle type/CP Rail hotel. Highly recommended.

Great location

The best thing about the Fairmont Vancounver Hotel is its location. It's one block off Robson and great for shopping; the Art Museum is just next door. If you like a bit of history in where you stay, then the hotel certainly will fit the bill, it's one of those charming old places where there are mail drop boxes and chandeliers in the corridor. But those used to modern 5-star luxuries will find the refurbished decor rather wanting; the mirrors and tables and wallpaper along the hallway look a tad drab and cheap, not quite grand enough. The corridors are indeed also quite stuffy due to inadequate ventilation. But the rooms, while a little on the small side, are quite nicely done up, up to scratch for a 5-star property by my reckoning. All things considered, I thought it very nice indeed but on the expensive side.

Average Hotel, Not As Nice as a Typical Fairmont

from A TripAdvisor Member
I stayed at the Fairmont Vancouver for 2 nights in July 2004. I was there on a business trip and got a conference rate of CD $265. Hotel is definitely an old historic property, but needs updating. I had an average room - one bed, average furnishings, older carpet and drapes. Bathroom was very, very small. Just enough room for toilet, pedestal sink, and shower. Not enough room to put makeup bag! The hotel lobby is in decent shape, but the hallways on the room floors are rather drab. Outdated wallpaper, old wooden doors. Carpet is bright , however, and must have been replaced in the past 5 years. Health club is decent - 3 treadmills, 5 bikes, 3 steppers, 6 Kaiser (air pressure) workout machines, an assortment of dumbells and a workout bench. Didn't use the pool but several people said it was nice. I did get to visit with the hotel mascot, Mavis (golden lab) who is very sweet. Overall, an average stay but not luxurious at all, and frankly, not up to the standards of what I expect from a Fairmont. I had occasion to go to the Hyatt (across the street from the Vancouver Fairmont), and the Fairmont Waterfront, and they both seemed much nicer, in better shape, and a bit more contemporary. For the rate, I would not stay at the Vancouver Fairmont again.

Musty, smelly, corridors and rooms are slowly being renovated. This is not a luxury hotel, despite what the President's club staff, with their negative attitude, says.
Good breakfast buffet. Great location across from the art museum. this property should have been totally demolished and rebuilt from the ground up. Wait until the restoration is completed.

Canadian Luxury!

from A TripAdvisor Member
I was pleasantly surprised by the luxury of this property. I had a HUGE room (maybe I'm just used to teensy NYC proportions), with well-appointed little goodies like plush robes, 60 channels on the TV, high speed internet connection, windows that actually open, a digital temperature control system, and a super comfortable bed. The decorating is not cutting edge, but neither is it bland. It is what you would expect in a fine hotel: upholstered chairs, sheets with a high thread count, decent artwork on the walls. It must be said that the food at The Fairmont is way above average hotel fare (though not cheap). They also have their own mascot, a very gentle yellow Lab named Mavis. I would make it a point to stay here anytime I'm in Vancouver.

Awesome Hotel!!

from dstx4
The Fairmont Hotel Vancouver was AWESOME! The rooms were clean and comfortable. The staff was outstanding!!!! The airlines lost our stroller and they let us borrow one of their strollers - my son loved it so much, he didn't want his stroller back! They gave our kids complimentary milk and cookie coupons and free breakfast buffet coupons. We ate breakfast and dinner at Griffins and both meals were outstanding. Our waiter was a little on the grumpy side and there was one other staff member who wasn't too friendly but overall the staff was quite friendly. The hotel was centrally located and near Robson Street which was definitely a plus. But the best part of the hotel was the pool. There was a heated lap pool and a wonderful children's pool that was perfect for my three year old son. The hotel also provides pool toys. There's also a sauna and a hot tub. Soaking in the hot tub after a day in the cold was HEAVEN!!! My only suggestion is to leave the hot tub open past 10:30 - we were running back to the hotel to get in there before it closed!

Great location, beautify exterior, interior could use some work

from A TripAdvisor Member
Great location in the center of Vancouver. Beautiful exterior hotel with its copper dome. The interior could use a little updating. Our first room was large but oddly arranged with the king size bed facing directly the entry way. It was also next to some kind of work room, elevator shaft. We heard workers talking loudly to each other starting at like 6am. After two days, I couldn't stand it any more and ask to change room. They moved us to a corner room that was quiet but also very tiny. It was nicely furnished, but barely big enough to hold the basic furnitures. We would stay here again if the rates are good (we paid about $125/night through CheapTickets.com), but the next time, we'll have to be specific about the room location.

This was real luxury !

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed here for two nights as part of an organised rockies trip. We found this hotel to be pure luxury. The room was very well decorated and clean and even had a view to the Harbour area. The breakfast buffet was superb though maybe a little pricy at $23. The staff were first class and couldn't do enough for us. All the main tourist areas were easily accessible from the hotel. We definitely recommend it.

Spa at the century The spa at the Hotel Vancouver is part of the local Absolute Spa chain, and while it's OK, the Absolute Spa at the Century Hotel (a few blocks away) is their flagship and a much funner experience.
