Top Local Tips for Vancouver
Airport transfers If not travelling alone and going to downtown, take a taxi rather than the regular Airporter Bus. The bus is around £14 per person whereas the taxi is only $25-$28 is door to door, quicker, easier and hassle free.
No need to rent a car The public transportation in Vancouver is awesome! The buses, skytrain, and seabuses will take you anywhere you need to go in downtown. You can buy a pack of 10 tickets at 7/11. The website www.translink.bc.ca has a trip planner where you punch in your starting point and destination and it will tell you which buses to take. One ticket will last you a few hours. One zone tickets are $2.50 and two zones are $3.75. We took the bus from our hotel in downtown to the seabus and then to another bus and up to Grouse Mountain- all on one bus ticket for $3.75 each! It's so easy and the bus drivers are very nice. The locals are very friendly and will help you if you're unsure which bus to take.
Vancouver can be a bit hard to navigate Vancouver doesn't have an underground or train system which means you need to spend a bit more time learning the local bus and public transport system. An excellent option for sightseeing and getting your bearings are the hop on and off buses. They're fairly inexpensive and one ticket lasts for two days (non consecutive). However, once you've mastered the public bus system you realise that there's loads to do in Vancouver. Some must do's are Vancouver Island - it's a four hour one way trip so if you've got the time, stay overnight and enjoy this lovely city. Grouse Mountain is another must do. Cach the seabus across to the mountain but take warm clothes though ,because even though there might be sunshine in Vancouver, there will be snow on Grouse Mountain.
