Location is wonderful. Views from the rooms are fabulous.
Price is reasonable. Maybe I'll stay there next time I visit Vancouver.

Great location and clean, comfortable rooms

I have stayed at the Blue Horizon on multiple locations, mainly for its close proximity to the great shopping and restaurants on the bustling Robson Street. The rooms are always clean and the front desk personnel friendly and willing to recommend must-see places in the city. Only one time was there a problem - although I went out of my way to book a corner room with a view on one of the higher floors, the room assigned to me was small, on the third floor, not on a corner, and faced a parking lot. Because the hotel was full that night, the staff was unable to move me to the room I requested. I never received an adequate explanation as to how this happened. Other than that, though, I would definitely recommend the generally reliable Blue Horizon. As with all hotels in the city, be sure your car is completely emptied of all visible personal belongings, as theft in the city is frequent.

We loved the Blue Horizon. All corner rooms made it spacious and gave us great views from every window. It was handy to everything we wanted to see downtown.

Bedbugs and BAD follow-up

When I turned on the light at my room at Horizon 03:00 AM, MY BED WAS FULL OF CRAWLING BLACK BUGS at the size of a pin to a little finger's nail. There were blod spots on the bed clothes indicating stings/blood sucking/itching. I contacted the hotel reception - requesting a new room. Nothing happened, as the hotel was claimed to be full-booked. After 45 minutes I contacted the reception again, and they then came and changed the linens. As soon as the lights were turned off the bugs returned. I again requested a new room and got one 3 hrs after the first contact with the reception. The next morning the receptionist said that this case was none of their concerns and they even told me that I had brought the bugs into the hotel!! This was very offensive! The hotel then started something that seemed to be a standard routine for such cases: Admit nothing/Clothes to be sent to freeze for 24 hrs. The hotel manager was on holidays and no deputy was available for discussing the case and a hotel discount. The receptionist actually underlined that my room was upgraded in the room change with no influence on the room rate... Being a first class hotel and taking NO responsibility in such a case gives a clear picture on how this hotel acts. 6 days after my arrival at the Horizon, my back and arms were covered with more than 500 red itching spots. Now, 2 1/2 weeks after, my back and arms still have spots. I have a doctor's attest confirming that the spots are caused by bedbugs.

More than expected

We'd read good things about the Blue Horizon, but found it even nicer than we expected. The location was excellent, the rooms were large, bright and well decorated, and the staff was very friendly and helpful. We had gone to Vancouver for the Celbration of Light and found that this hotel was comfortable walking distance from English Bay. Perhaps the best surprise was the excellent breakfast at reasonable price in the hotel restaurant. For the price, it would be hard to beat the Blue Horizon.

The Blue Horizon Hotel was everything I hoped it would be. The location on Robson Street was perfect, the room was quite large and clean. We were promised a room above the 15th floor and were on the 26th! What a great view. Also, we found the people at the reception desk to be very helpful with our room and also with things to do in the area. I highly recommend this hotel.

Our stay in Vancouver involved staying at two hotels, with a night in between in Victoria. Our last night was at the Blue Horizon and it was great! I had stayed there 30 years prior so since we liked it then, we thought we would give it a try again. We
requested a high floor and were thrilled when we got the 25th floor with a wonderful view of English Bay. That evening there was the first of three nights of fireworks competions...how perfect was that? Sure there were crowds in the street, but with a view like we had, we sure couldn't complain. Hotel was spotless, well appointed and attached restaurant provided a good place to have breakfast.
Parking is attached to hotel but not a secured lot so all luggage had to be hauled to the room.
Loved the hotel and recommend it highly.

We just stayed at the Blue Horizon Hotel on Robson Street in Vancouver and it was great. We chose to stay on the upper floors for the view and it was well worth it. What an amazing view - absolutely beautiful! Our room overlooked Robson Street and it was quiet - we did not hear all the action going on below on the street.

The room was lovely - clean, spacious, very comfortable.

The hotel staff was very helpful - everything from helping plan the day to restaurant suggestions to transportation. They even offered to call - (in advance) and arrange a taxi to pick us up at the hotel to take us to the airport. Very courteous staff.

Location was awesome - walking distance from many places e.g. shops, restaurants, Stanley Park, English Bay, the West End. The bus stopped right outside the hotel so when you couldn't walk, you could just hop on the bus and get to Kitsilano or Yaletown. I suggest you buy a day pass for the bus if you think you will be hopping off and on the bus throughout the day-well worth it and very convenient.

We highly recommend staying at the Blue Horizon and would absolutely stay here again.

Fantastic place to stay

Have stayed here about 5 times now.
Ideal location-good shopping, bars, etc, walk to Stanley Park, Walk to English beach or even downtown. Bus stops outside.
Very generous size rooms with good facilities.All rooms have balconies.
Very friendly staff.
Nice swimming pool too.
Good quality hotel at a very reasonable rate.
Only stay here now when in Vancouver !

This hotel was perfect for our needs...we were only staying one night. Perfect location, Robson Street is busy during the day, with loads of shops it's nice. Re comments it was noisy at night time...I never heard a thing..perhaps because we were not overlooking Robson Street..if that bothers you...when booking ask for a room round the back...we were on the 19th floor anyhow..so not a problem, the view out of the balcony was not the greatest but that did not matter to us.

The room was clean, they upgraded us to a king size bed which was great...bathtub was small but we both got into together!! Nothing fancy..but then unless you pay big money you don't get that in a big city...check out London if you don't believe me!!

Walking home from the Muse concert was fine...Robson Street was quiet enough...there were a few drunks stragglling home from a night out and a couple of down and out folks going about..but nothing compared to Granville Street where the concert was, and what you would expect to see in a big city like Vancouver.

They did call us when we had not checked out by 11:40am...but the staff were all helpful and courteous on our stay. Did not try the restaurant..but then all hotels are overpriced..I feel you get better value out at a restaurant.

We would go back again...

What a great place!

We dashed up to Vancouver for two days a month ago and stayed at the Blue Horizon for the first time - it's great! Excellent location, nice, large rooms, and the pool and sauna were nice, too. I especially liked the restaurant for breakfast, after having a dismal Chinese dinner at the place right up the street the night before. This will be the place I go on my next Vancouver trip!

avoid unless you like to be up til 3am

We thought this was going to be a very nice hotel in a very nice area --- we were wrong!! Started out with a big fiasco checking in - we were told we had early check-in -- when we arrived we were told no such thing. then we requested a better room since our reservations were made 2 months in advance (they stuck us on the lowest floor possible) -- we were told by a very rude and unconcerned desk person - "nothing available". She never apologized or acted even the least bit concerned - she did not care at ALL. Not good for a so-called "first class" hotel. We also did not have a good experience in the Inlet's Bistro Bar -- there was NO one in there while we were and not one of three staff were willing to make sure we were being helped. The next thing was the noise! If you like being kept up until 3 or 4 am then this is the place for you! loud people down on Robson partying and loud cars cruising til early am.....not exactly a good night's sleep. Maybe if the windows were not single pane windows it would have helped. We will not consider The Blue Horizon again...won't recommend to anyone either!

Great Location, Great Hotel!

My husband and I decided to fly to Vancouver for a few days because we'd never been there before and had always heard how beautiful it is.
Trying to figure out where to stay was so confusing! We finally decided on the Blue Horizon because it just sounded a little different and wasn't nearly as expensive as most of the high-rise hotels on Robson.
What a great choice! We were right in the middle of everything--so much better than being on the water which is what I originally was considering. The lobby was small but elegant with an interesting fountain by the elevators. The staff was very accommodating--even gave us a free room upgrade at check-in and good directions and suggestions when we asked. One thing I appreciated was the fact that there were no bellhops looking for a handout although help was available if needed.
The room was huge, spotlessly clean, and the decor carried on the water and sky theme with a wonderful view! Parking can be so expensive in some of the hotels, but this hotel only charged $7/day--a great deal for Vancouver. We loved the city and the Blue Horizon!

Top Local Tips for Vancouver

Grouse mountain A good out-of-city attraction is Grouse mountain, about a half hour drive from Vancouver. There is a cable car ascending the mountain although a few people we met recommended the walk up. The scenery is breath taking and there are a few interesting shows. It is also educational for kids.

gastown Avoid after dark (certain areas). Can be intimidating as there are a large number of bums about. Picturesque during the day, but do the tourist thing and pass through.

The Nine O'Clock Gun Be sure to listen for the "BOOM!" at 9 p.m. The Nine O'Clock Gun on the Coal Harbor side of Stanley Park is fired every evening at, of course, nine o'clock. The shot can be heard from the Blue Horizon Hotel, and Canada Place is a nice spot to see the flash as well as hear the report.
