Hotel Deer Lodge in Lake Louise is a very nice and cosy hotel, with lovely rooms, good service and a very friendly staff. Most important is that the hotel is situated at a walking distance from the beautiful Lake Louise.

We had been staying in Banff at the Caraboo Lodge which is excellent and were looking forward to our stay at Deer Lodge in Lake Louise. The location for the lake itself and the surrounding area is just unbelievable but the hotel itself was some what disappointing. The rooms are lovely and clean you couldn't really ask for better and the staff were absolutely fantastic but the hotel is a very strange mish mash. It was only about £100 a night to stay there, which is reasonable but in contrast the food and drink in the hotel is so expensive. My father bought a whisky at the bar and it cost £25.We had luckily hired a car and so could go to a local restaurant where the food was amazing and a normal price. We sat and watched as other residents came in with bottles of alcohol so they didn't have to buy anything at the hotel.Also the main part of the hotel is really lovely but the new part is really cheap looking. This was such a shame as the area is lovely, the staff were really really excellent and the rooms were nice but I wouldn't stay there again> When you are in such a remote area you really don't want to have to drive for miles to have a decent breakfast.

Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise Hotel This huge hotel sitting right on the Lake Lousie shore dominates the area. Whilst it is sky-high in pricing and has massive throughput of visitors, there are many public facilities inside and it has a small set of shops, including bookshop, and about 6 restaurants, including an attractive lounge overlooking the lake and mountains with live music (harp or guitar when we were there). There is a 24 hour buffet/cafe/take-away shop with a nice range of snacks to moderate meals. Large public areas made this hotel a nice place to visit when it was raining!

Drive from lake Louise to Banff When you travel to Banff for a day or as your next port of call....make sure you take the bow valley parkway and NOT the highway....... it takes a little longer but as its the small road you see LOADs and LOADs of wildlife, we saw bears, caribou, deer, and a mousse. Remember, you ar asked not to travel over it before 0900 and no later than about 1800 at night, as the animals will then be in the road a lot more as they travel to feed

Bring cash Bring lots of cash to Lake Louise. Many of the ATMs in the village do not take Visa. The banks in Banff and Canmore (as well as the Calgary airport) are good places to fill your wallet.
