Great hotel, but terrible parking

Great upscale hotel with friendly staff and fantastic rooms. HOWEVER, the parking was completely terrible. We drove around the hotel for 1/2 an hour because there was construction and no room out front to stop and go into the hotel. Finally found a great worker at the back of the hotel who directed us to the Parkade down the street. Complete disaster as our truck would not fit in the parkade. Ended up taking us 2 hours to get our vehicle parked. We were not impressed at all!

Lots of trips to Edmonton. Usually stay in the West End. Tried Meterra this week for 3 nights and I loved it! Valet? Hilarious, take the keys to my rented Pontiac good Sir. Great service, car in front 7am everyday. People are nice, the decor is really amazing and the rooms are perfect. You can walk to any franchise place imaginable, like Starbucks, Chili's, McRotten etc. However, you're also going to find tons of crazy cool, one of a kind stores. Very euro-hippie vibe. You'll never see so many pierced people. Just get a room, drink some pints, grab a bite, shop for some vintage T-shirts, catch a live band, PEOPLE WATCH, give smokes to the occasional vagrants who ask, and have a great time! Did I mention the hotel is the best too?

The location was great and handy to what I needed. The breakfast was excellent. The only drwback was a faint odor of smoke in the room. I will request a non smoking room next time.

My husband and I stayed there for our wedding night. We requested a basic king-sized bed room, since we didn't want to spend too much money. I mentioned it was our wedding day while reserving, so they upgraded our room to a suite that had a separate living living and kitchen area and a big balcony! It was a huge surprise, and it didn't cost us extra. This hotel has the most comfortable beds, we didn't want to leave! Everything was very VERY well kept and clean. We are going back for our 1st anniversary.

Very upscale and friendly without the nose in the air attitude you can receive at some places. Very impressed with the little touches in the room such as a shower curtain rod that bows out to keep the curtain from coming in on you, all the little amenities in the room, the upscale decor, the wine and cheese in the evening is a pleasant way to unwind before going out for diner. Am going back over Christmas as you can not beat their holiday rates!

The best place to sleep, wine and cheese it, enjoy our staff getaways, shop on Whyte Avenue, hotel staff takes great care of us from valet parking as we arrive to settling us into our rooms. We enjoy our stay and the attentive service and well appointed rooms and bathrooms make it truly comfy and the best value for the rate in Edmonton.
Three cheers!

This is a Great Place!

from A TripAdvisor Member
I have traveled extensively throughout North America and have stayed in almost every kind of hotel from dumpy to deluxe.

This place is TERRIFIC! Great service, great rooms, great location, great.... I think you get what I am saying.

Would stay here again, and again, and again if I traveled to Edmonton on a regular basis.

Best in the West

Arrived with high expectations which were exceeded. One of the best hotels I've ever stayed in. The staff were faultlessly helpful, the room was cool and luxourious and the breakfast great. In an interesting part of town as well. You won't regret staying here.

Spend a little bit more and stay at the Met

from A TripAdvisor Member
We spent the first night in Edmonton at the Holiday Inn Express after reading a few reviews on TripAdvisor. It was fine... but nothing special. The next night we moved to the Met and we loved it. It cost an extra $20 but it was worth it. The room was stylish and beautiful. On every level it was far superior to the Holiday Inn. The location is great, within walking distance to shops and restaurants. They had better quality and selection of food at breakfast, served on china instead of paper plates. We missed the complimentary wine and cheese - maybe next time.

Cool Hotel in a Cool City

from TravelinCanuck
When we approached "The Met" for a one night stay we were uncertain where to park, as the area in front was blocked and we didn't see a parking lot anywhere so we parked around the corner in a back alley area and called the front desk on our cell phone. They told us to stay there and then quickly came back and took our luggage and parked our car. This was the beginning of a great, all too short stay at this great little hotel in the middle of the historic Strathcona District of Edmonton. Everything was first class- the service, locale, room and the free wine and cheese tasting and continental breakfast. It's also within a short drive from the downtown core of the city. A great all-round experience.

one of the best hotels I have stayed in

from missmadison
We stayed here on the first and last nights of our honeymoon, in one of the studio rooms and absolutely loved it. Service was friendly and first rate, bed was the most comfortable of the trip, bathroom was beautiful. We had a gas fireplace in our room. There is valet parking, wireless internet and breakfast included for the price. Just an overall great hotel in a great location. We had a good time walking around on Whyte Avenue, lots of restaurants and shops. Recommend Yianni's, the greek resturant 2 doors down. If their basement bar is open, check it out, very unique and they will serve you all the restaurant food down there, along with some great drinks.

The Metterra is a gem!

from A TripAdvisor Member
My girlfriend & I stayed at the Metterra this weekend & it was a wonderful find. The decor is beautiful, the room clean & bright & the staff very friendly & efficient. I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Edmonton. It is located right on Whyte Avenue, so it can be a bit noisy at night but you ARE on Whyte Avenue (A room at the rear of the hotel would probably fix this). This is a cool, urban & refined place with many nice touches. We will stay there again.

Incredible service that goes above and beyond.

The met was a refreshing new experience. The level of service from the valet to the check in clerk down to the housekeeper were consistent and INCREDIBLE. They made my family and me feel special, the room was clean, modern and luxurious. The rates are reasonable. The overall quality of my stay was EXCELLENT. Simply put, I was impressed. The met, was more than a "nice touch" to our stay in Edmonton. The staff was eager to please and more than helpful. Simply, I find it difficult to find any business with a very high level of customer service these days, but the Met's team far surpassed my expectations. Well done. I would not hesitate to reccoment the Met for any business traveller. The location and setting are both convenient and accessible. 5 Star all the way!!! A unique hotel with all the services and amenities you need. The staff and management obviously take pride in what they do, which resulted in a very satisfied customer. I will return to the met every time I need to be in Edmonton on Business!!!

Great location, homy comfort

from A TripAdvisor Member
One of the finest hotels, with friendliest staff anywhere in Edmonton made this feel like a second home. I stayed here for 5 nights on business. From the free valet parking, free wine and cheese, free breakfast to the luxurious beds, rooms and bathrooms, it is by far best bang for buck. Free wireless internet and well-equipped business room and fitness room top it all off.

The location is superb, with a ton of restaurants and nightlife nearby.

I hesitate to add to the apparent growing number of fans, lest I not get a room next time!! Keep up the quiet professionalism Met staff, and don't boost those rates in spite of all of your fans!

Absolutely great

from A TripAdvisor Member
The Met is wonderful.

It is conveniently located near the University (a short drive or brisk walk), close to shopping (several beautiful boutiques, Chapters, Starbucks :-), etc. all located within a block or two of the hotel), great restaurants (try the Mexican restaurant next door!!!) and pubs.

As a lone woman traveller, I felt safe and well-taken care of by the superb staff. The bellmen/valets were very attentive, knowledgable and friendly.
Valet parking is convenient and efficient.

The rooms are modern, clean and so quiet. Most rooms have a nice view (with the exception of the air conditioner view on the 3rd floor...which was disguised with a lovely balcony, though!). The beds are extremely comfortable - I had the best sleep I've had in a long time. Nightly turndown service left me 2 crisp apples...healthier than chocolate!

The complementary brekfast consisted of beverages, yogurt, granola, fresh fruit, muffins and danish assortment...what a great spread! And of course, the complementary wine tasting every evening is a treat. Cheeses and crackers included.

Stay at The Met - you will not be disappointed.

Top Local Tips for Edmonton

Murrieta's The prices are a little higher, but the food quality is excellent!

Looking for a place to eat? Try the King and I Thai Restaurant (about two blocks of the hotel- Whyte corner of 107). It was really good!

Rental car a good deal in Edmonton Edmonton is surprisingly easy to get around in - the traffic is light and most everything is connected with a freeway system that's easy to navigate. The hardest part about getting around in Edmonton by car is downtown. As a visitor, I'd taxi downtown and drive everywhere else.
