Some friends and I recently stayed at Mystic Springs Chalets in Canmore. Great space and actually - a really good price. 2 Bedrooms + a pullout couch: there were 4 of in the room, so we ended up paying something like $55 each. And the pool!! Awesome hot pool in the courtyard. Fab service and I highly recommend it.

Top Local Tips for Canmore

Eating Out The Grizzly Paw is absloutely the best place in town to eat and get a great beer - also allows kids until 9pm which is great for us as a family!

Stay in Canmore instead of Banff Banff feels like a tourist trap with lots of shops carrying anything with a bear or moose on it. The traffic is terrible along with the crowd. Stay in Canmore instead and make the 15 min drive to see the sights but go early to avoid the hoards of tour buses.

Trail conditions If you want to hike up a mountain in Canmore it's very doable. Just be sure to do so between June-August. We went in May and encountered some snowy trails which made it a little unpleasant considering that the snow was getting into our shoes and getting our feet wet. We hiked up Chinaman's Peak. It's an easy hike with incredible views from the peak. Be sure to be properly equipped (food, water, bear spray...) and educate yourself on the wildlife and what to do in case of an encounter.
