A Must-y stay
from canadabanadaWe called front desk and again repeated out request fro a "complete" bedding change.
The bed skirt was stained very badly and there was a stain on the bed covering So we could tell they had not changed everything.
1/2 hour later, we went to our room and only the sheets had been changed. After calling the desk, the maid came to our room and wanted to know " what was our problem?" Very rude. We explained what we wanted changed. Well it never did get done, and we ended up just putting up with the musty mildewy smell for the rest of our stay.
After going home, I emailed the hotel to lodge a complaint and got no response for over a month, finally I emailed the new york office and got a response. They did try to make amends, but clearly thought sleeping in mildew was ok!
Now I love the westin in Ottawa, and Vancouver. but this one was not so good, the sandwiches they served my business group were hard as rock and rather icky.
t Do It!
from tiffani_in_vancouverI'll try to make this quick ...
Service - horrid
Rooms - mediocre
Two things you want out of hotel and they were at their worst when we stayed there.
We stayed for one reason only, we were in town for a concert. Wanted to get tickets to the concert, did the concierge help? NO! We had to go into the business centre on our own and scout out tickets ourselves. Concierge wouldn't budge on the no helping as well. Did we go to the concert? NO.
We were so upset and unsatisified with our stay there, we cut our trip to Calgary short by one day and even paid the extra $459 it cost to get us back to Vancouver early. THAT is how bad it was there.
IF you're used to good service of a 4/5 Star hotel, I honestly would not recommend the Westin Calgary.
Good hotel for the price - good service
from MulberryCreekAccess to the pool and excercise room located in the second tower was a little inconvenient. Pool and excercise area were very clean.
Staff members were very helpful.
An older hotel; the rooms were a little small but adequate. We we did not spend much time in the room with so much to do and see within walking distance of the hotel. The Heavenly bed was excellent.
Great Location
from BeavertonThere are 2 towers in this hotel and the swimming pool is located in one of the tower. That makes it very inconvenient walking through the lobby in your wet swim wear if you are not in the same tower as the swimming pool.
It also has a secured parking that you need to get in from the back of the building. The inconspicous signs at the garage entrance means you might easily miss it.
Our room is nicely appointed in the usual Westin way. Nice heavenly beds and sheets. The room is very clean and what you would expect from a Westin.
For the price we paid, we certainly felt we got great value for the money.
I would certainly recommend this hotel for its great location, great value and great reputation.
Great time!
from scorpiogirl'minimoon' to Calgary. After checking the several websites, we decided to book a room at the Westin downtown. Upon arrival I mentioned to the receptionist that it was our 'honeymoon' and if it was possible to get an upgrade? Without hassle he gave us one of the suites for the same price.
It was wonderful, really big with comfortable furniture, the heavenly bed and a beautiful bathroom. It also had a balcony, but due to the noise of all the airconditioners of nearby buildings (plus the traffic) and the lack of patio furniture, we didn't use it too much. The other thing that we weren't too crazy about was the fact it was a smoker's room, and we're non-smoking.
We loved the rooftop pool and work out area and the fact that the hotel is located within walking distance to Eau Clair Market and Princess Island.
Just a little note: if you become a preferred Westin-member, be aware you'll receive a lot of junk e-mail...
But overall we had a wonderful stay here!
Nothing Special
from JohnEversonOverpriced, Underwhelming
from SpringTexasUSANot worth the price
from A TripAdvisor MemberNot a place for kids!!!
from disneyvacationer2005It would have been a great place for just my husband and myself - but certainly not the best for children! Meals were quite expensive - to order a burger from room service was over $26! It is very close to the Old Spaghetti Factory, but it is sometimes nice to have more choice in the hotel.
The pool is okay - a little cool. You have an amazing view of the city, as it is on the top floor.
Would we stay again? Not with our family! There are many other family friendly spots in Calgary. If there was a conference there again, we'd return, but it wouldn't be our first choice!
t expect too much
from cokerbudTop Local Tips for Calgary
Use Hotwire I have used hotwire for several of our hotel/motel stays in many parts of Canada and the U.S. and never been disappointed with their selection. As long as you know what area and what quality (2,3,4, star properties) you prefer, you are usually going to get a better deal than anything expedia or other internet travel companies can offer.
Shops are hidden !! Most of the shopping area is within office are spaces, all connected via the 15ft walkways between the buildings to save crossing the roads outside in the winter months.
Banff Make a day trip to Banff! Only an hour away and has great sites in the mountains! Don't miss it......
