The Palliser hotel was very classy and polite. My husband and i got married there, and we had an absolutely exquisite time. The staff was amazing, from the sales and catering team, to the banquet servers, to the valet staff, all were heaven to deal with. They all made our stay pleasurable, and we didn't want to leave, but ofcourse we had too! I will definately recommend the Palliser to friends and family, for holding events there, and i already have. It is a truly beautiful hotel, from the inside out.

Old world Charm

The Fairmont Palliser in downtown calgary is centrally located and is accessible to everything. The hotel feels very european with nice sized rooms with high ceilings. The beds are comfortable and the service is that of any Fairmont you would stay at, extremely attentive and very friendly.

The Fairmont Palliser Hotel is an experience like no other. The staff there go out of their way to make your stay most enjoyable. The rooms, food and atmosphere will make you realize that you will be coming back stay after stay. If you are traveling to Calgary and want to make your visit complete then you must stay at the Fairmont Palliser. One stay and you will agree that they are above the rest.

Unsurpassed service lives at the Palliser

For my birthday and upcoming holiday festivities, we booked two nights in a corner Jacuzzi suite at the historic Palliser Fairmont. The night we checked in, the outside temperature was -24c with a -32c windchill. The corner suite heating system failed, rendering the suite extremely uncomfortable and no portable heating units were available. After two hours, we were moved to a warmer "upgrade", but the bathroom was cramped (moreso than the normal classic hotel 'cramped bathroom'), the window looked at the apartment building across the rail tracks, obscuring any possibility of light (previously, we had panoramic windows in the jacuzzi suite)and the suite was by the elevators. The room lacked the atmosphere we wanted to accomplish this weekend. The next day, I requested yet another move and wished to discuss Fairmont Gold rooms, as I didn't wish to move again. By great fortune, we had the opportunity to work with the same front desk respresentative throughout this experience and she arranged a terrific suite for our last night, which included a grand entrance, period appropriate furnishings, a kitchen, full living quarters and a gorgeous city view. She typified the grace and professionalism we have come to expect from Fairmont properties and as a result of her efforts, we enjoyed a thoroughly memorable weekend getaway.

Sleepless at the Fairmont Palliser

This was our first stay in Calgary as we have always arrived and gone straight to Lake Louise. We decided to stay at the Fairmont Palliser as we have always enjoyed our stays at the Fairmont Lake Louise. Upon arrival, we were excited to see such a beautiful lobby with rich marble throughout. Unfortunately the grandeur of the lobby did not carry on to the rooms which were very very very small and dark. Once our suitcases were in the room, you could barely move as the closets were too small to store them.
This was definitely not worth the $300 a night. We called the front desk and asked to be moved. They apolgized and moved us quickly to the south side of the hotel where sunlight came through the window and brightened the room which was still very small but at least we could see. We asked the concierge, who were very pleasant, for a good place to dine. We had a fabulous dinner at Murietta's which was one block away. Once we came back to settle in for the night we were surprised to hear trains running right past our room. The trains ran throughout the night and everything shook needless to say we did not sleep a wink. We could not imagine another night like that. We told the front desk and again they apologized but said that the majority of the rooms face the side of the train tracks, so our choices were small dark rooms or small noisy rooms. That was enough for us so we checked out a day early and went to the Westin Hotel were we had good service, a large bight room with peace and quiet.

The rooms and price at the Palliser was definitely not worth the value.

Great start to the vacation

My girlfriend and I stayed at this hotel with our two children at the beginning of our stay in Canada. This is an excellent hotel. We were upgraded to a junior suite when we arrived. The breakfast buffet was excellent in terms of both quality and value. The pool was great for the kids and all the staff in the hotel were very friendly. I would quite happily stay here again.

Excellent Location

This hotel is in a fantastic location and offered excellent service. We did not use the restaurants as they were a little pricey and didn't appear to be well used.

Our room was okay, nothing special, however very comfortable and well equipped. Overall, a pleasant stay and I would probably return here if I was to visit Calgary again.

The best in town, bar none.

Fairmont is renovating the Palliser (beautifully I might add). Make sure when you check in that you ask for a room on one of the renovated floors.

Because of it's shape, height and location there aren't many great views to be seen, but the beauty of this hotel is in it's great history, elegantly done rooms and it's grand lobby, bar and restaurant. It's one of the few places in this young, shiny town that evokes any sense of history.

We were actually staying at the Hyatt Regency across the street, when we happened to pass by the Palliser. One look at the lobby and we were sold, the super friendly front desk staff took us on a tour of several different rooms and we immediately checked out of the Hyatt and into the Palliser.

We stayed on the Gold floor (well worth the small extra price), had a very large suite with an AMAZING complimentary breakfast every morning and honor bar at night.

If you're going to stay in Calgary and you want something a bit special this is definitely it.

Good location

Stayed here for 2 nights having toured Vanvouver and Rockies. Hotel is large and impersonal. Tries to be grand in an old english sort of way and sort of gets there. Parking was expensive but nowhere else to go. Room was small but comfortable. Bathroom was comfortable although will soon need a refubishment. Pool was great the facilities in the changing rooms and around the pool are impressive. Cafe in the basement sells good value items for breakfast if you dont have time to go to the resturant - which we didnt try out. Calgary was cold and raining when we were there - we enjoyed the Cherokee shopping mall which was upmarket and nicer than any I have been to in US. There was a large IMAX screen there where we saw Charlie and the Chocolate Factory-my husband and I are were as impressed as the children (which takes some doing). Stay was spoilt by occupant of room below holding a party fully equipped with live band. My husband had to go down to reception and speak to the duty manager twice before we were told they were being moved to a function room. Very obliging to revellers but not the rest of the guests who were kept awake.

We stayed at the Palliser in August for two nights on the "Gold Floor". We had suite 801 which had a large sitting area, comfy king sized bed and large bathroom. It also had two closets, three telephones and a nice sized television.

The Gold level is fantastic as you get a breakfast daily and evening appetizers. The service is efficent, personal and friendly. The rooms are nicely decorated and very clean and anything that you may need is available by simply calling the front desk. I would highly reccomend this beautiful hotel right in the middle of most of the sights and shopping Calgary has to offer.

We were upgraded to a very luxurious and stylishly traditional room on the 8th floor, the "gold" floor. Many many extras provided, both in the bathroom and in the bedroom along with a spacious sitting and desk area. The room featured Canadian art, with even a signed, color woodcut by well known Canadian artist Walter Phillips, in the bathroom no less! The complimentary breakfast and hors d'oevre from 5-7 pm were excellent in taste and presentation. The staff who worked this floor were exceptional in their customer service orientation.
The hotel is well located, near attractions and terrific restaurants, try Murrietta's, Teatro, Catch and Avenue Diner.

Pretty OK/ just needs a little renovation

It's great from the outside, and just good from the inside. Meaning that especially the rooms need a serious upgrade. On the positive: location, very friendly staff, breakfast buffet,.... On the negative: small dated rooms with limited amenities. For the 150 USD we paid for the room, it was good value for money.

Great 4-star hotel

Stayed here on business recently in a King-bedded non-smoking room on a regular regular (not concierge) floor. The room was large & spacious, but I was lucky because I think every room is different. It was standard 4-star fare plus a touch of elegance. The hotel common areas are also very elegant and classy, compared to the new boring Sheratons Hyatts Hiltons etc.

My room was in the back over the train tracks, which worried me because I dont like noise when I sleep. However, it was quiet (up 9 or 10 floors anyway where I was).

Though it's a large hotel, this hotel has character & charm. The location is not bad, but it's across the tracks unfortunately from most of the business section. Nevertheless, when I return to Calgary for business next month, I will stay here again.

Top Local Tips for Calgary

Great shops and sightseeing Once in the shopping centre you can make your way around most of Calgary with the overhead tunnel connectors which is great on a cold winter day. You can take jackets off and walk around the amazingly large shopping centres without going in and out of each centre. Don't forget to obtain the visitors GST rebate forms - you can claim back gst on purchases exceeding $50 via mail after you leave.

Calgary go to Calgary zoo it's amazing and Edmonton's zoo is not where as close to as good as Calgary's.

A hotel downtown will have crime If you are anywhere near the C-Train in the downtown you will find crime. There are 2 corners downtown known to have police presence in the morning so that commuters can get to work safely. Get out of the downtown and stay somewhere else - Getting downtown is easy from anywhere. There is a lot of construction in the downtown also - This summer being one of the heaviest construction seasons ever, so you can't even go for a nice walk around.
