Historical Traveller Reviews of Marriott Calgary Hotel

The best beds ever!!!

from Diane040
Just got back from a 2 night stay at the Marriott. I will be going back - The bed was the most comfortable hotel bed I have ever slept in. The shower was also very nice. Although this hotel is not new they have done a nice job updating the rooms. The Starbucks in the lobby was a nice bonus - however by 9am both days I went there was only one muffin left and no orange juice...(Coffee though!)

Loved the new rooms

Very nice hotel, new rooms are awesome, great location with lot sto see and do. They even have a Starbucks in the lobby. The beds were the most comfortable ones I have slept on. Price isn't too bad, I think I will go back with my wife.

Loved the duvet!!

I stayed at the Marriott overnight for a business conference. it was divine. We had to upgrade, but it was well worth it. Their were down duvets that made me not want to get up in the morning. Everything was clean and sparkling. All the soap prducts were citrus, which I loved. Because their gym was unavailabel we were given vouchers for a free appetizer and free breakfast. I am looking foreward to staying there again.

Nice, Clean, Friendly Service

from aloha1123
I stayed at the Calgary Marriott from January 15-18, 2006. It is a nice, clean hotel, ideally suited for business travellers or families. I love Marriott hotels! They always feels like 'coming home'. You know what to expect, and you get it. Above all, cleanliness, spacious rooms and friendly service. The Calgary Marriott is located right beside the Calgary Tower, Calgary's landmark.

Pleasant, A Little Pricey

from bernerjc
Enjoyed my stay but was a little pricier than the competitors. The lobby is a bit more basic than the Sheraton and was located a couple blocks further south of the main business district. Clean comfortable room. Management was accomodating.

Nice business hotel. Probably not for the romantic couple.

This is a very pleasent property at the heart of downtown Calgary and available at a reasonable price. The room was standard - 2 beds, a couple of chairs and a TV plus a small fridge. It was clean and in good condition. I would stay here again

Not as good as it thinks it is

from chesterimp
Good location downtown opposite the Calgary Tower.

Hotel as a whole seems in dire need of refurbishment, looks tired with specific problem areas of staff, lifts & room furniture. Not the standard expected from Marriott.

Arrived at 3pm, room not ready so left luggage with concierge who seemed suprised by how much luggage 4 people had; reception level toilets were closed for cleaning.

When finally checked in, there was a 'problem' with our room so we were 'upgraded', though only in terms of floor - 11th to 22nd, fine except for the slow, dark & thoroughly unpleasant lifts to get there.

Room very spacious with the usual 2x doubles for 2 adults, 2 sons. Beds were the worst on our 3 week/9 hotel stay in Canada - wobbly mattresses, like sleeping on a jelly.

Staff were polite, but no more. Facilities were crowded and loud, (some sort of Veterans convention). We used the Hyatt restaurant opposite Stevenson Ave which was much better and seemed to cope with its vets much better.

Excellent City Centre hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
We as a family of 4 stayed two nights here 17th, 18th July. We had an excellent room on the 21st floor. We liked the themed decorations in the lobby (Straw, saddles, wooden entrances etc.) for the Calgary Stampede. The hotel is ideally placed for walking around the centre and to the Stampede grounds. It is very easy to use the local transport system to get around and very cheap. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed drinks from Starbucks in the lobby, snacks and drinks from the bar and an excellent dinner at the restaurant. The buffet breakfast is also well worth having - with freshly prepared omlettes and waffles.
The pool area is disappointing in its lack of changing facilities, it is very attractive - but cool!
I would thoroughly recommend this hotel as a very pleasant place to stay in Calgary.

We (2 adults & 2 children- 5&6) stayed at the Marriott for three nights and found it to be fantastic. The staff were very friendly and helpful and were wonderful to the kids, they even got a present on arrival! We got a free upgrade to a bigger room without asking for one. The room was plenty big enough for the four of us , bright and airy and we had a great view of the Tower and the mountains. Starbucks was handy in the lobby, as was the little hotel shop for sun cream which we didn't think we would need. The bar/ restaurant was good and they made the children feel very welcome, a nice place to chill out after being on your feet all day. The location was great for us, we were able to visit attractions such as the zoo (highly recommended), the museums, eau claire market the tower etc without the need for a car so that saved on three days carhire! On the whole a fantastic hotel in a great location, can't wait to go back!!

Good Value for Money Hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
Our Hotel room was clean and big. Well located Hotel so you can walk to most attractions and the city CBD. Well located across the road from the Calgary Tower and Museum and handy having a Starbucks downstairs in need. Has a pool, gym and spa which is good. We also went to the restaurant Saltlik across the road and it was excellent. I hear the restaurant The Catch Tavern just down the road is also excellent but it was closed on this day as it was a public holiday in Canada. A laundromat is quite a walk away if you don't want to pay Hotel prices for cleaning. One room with bathroom/toilet with no fan was a disadvantage and no bar fridge but these two things seems common in Canada in most Hotels, but they did supply a free ice machine and ice buckets to keep drinks cool overnight. Overall I would recommend this Hotel.

Top Local Tips for Calgary

Flames Central We wandered into the Wildfire Grill, a totally renovated old movie theater on Stephen Street (great shopping and eating along there anyway) which is now a "virtual arena" what a place if you like sports and specifically hockey!

Milestones Their is a chain in Canada called Milestones (Although we didn't know it was a chain at first). They are in Calgory and Vancouver (and probably other places). The food, service and ambience is excellent, the price is very good value. Especially good if you have kids, since they didn't charge us for any of the kids drinks, and the kids meals were very very good value.

This Red Lobster is DISAPPOINTING We've had wonderful dining experience in two different Red Lobsters (Portland, OR and Redding, CA), and were, therefore, delighted to see a Red Lobster in Calgary. However, the food in this one was really bad. The Ceasar Salad was way too salty. The Alaskan King Crab legs, shrimps, scallops were all overcooked and my lobster was luke warm with very little flavour. I am not sure if the Canadian Red Lobster is of the same franchise as the US ones. A disappointing dinner that cost over $70 for the two of us and our 3-yr-old.
