Will The Construction Ever Be Finished?

from A TripAdvisor Member
I am writing this review from my hotel room at the Delta Bow Valley. After reading the other reviews about the construction work, I assumed the work would be completed by 6/22/06. However, I was wrong. As the bell man was taking my luggage to the room, he apologized for the missing tile flooring and baseboard trim that was missing outside the elevator and down the hallways. He said that the work was suppose to be completed in April of 06 but they are having problems finding contractors to finish the work. So, here I am paying top dollar ($379.00) per night on the 23rd floor. After standing at the window looking across at the Hyatt, I've decided to check out a day early and spend my last night in Calgary at the Hyatt. I am going to pay a little more but at least it will be worth it.
You are welcome to stay here if you don't mind paying top dollar and getting a room on a floor that is still under construction. By the way floors 11,12 & 21 are also still unfinished. Those floors don't even have carpet outside the elevator. It seems as though the guest should be informed in advance that the hotel is under construction and largely unfinished. Living in construction debris is not my idea of a good time. Check out the photos I've taken.

Great Service Great Foot

from graceinhim
My Fiance and I got Married here on June the 17th, The Service was excellent, the Food was top notch, all in all we had a great wedding. The room for our "night" was a little hot but a very nice room, once I got the windows open everthing was good and I slept well.
The staff that I did have a chance to intereact with were top notch and went out of their way to help you, whether it be something for the wedding or as guests staying over night. nothing but good to say. Our planner was OK "pam" we had to get on her case a couple of times but once we did all was good. and the day of the wedding managers were awesome went out of their way to make our wedding a complete success. We had planned to have it on the beautiful garden patio, but when we were about to start it started raining, they had us in another room and ready to go in 10mins. All in all a great day, and a great experience.

A visit spoilt

My husband and I checked in to the hotel on Sunday, 26th March from London for 8 nights.

We were perfectly satisfied for the first few days. The room was on the 15th floor with a good view of the river. It was very clean with very comfortable beds. The breakfast dining room was run very smoothly by a small army of excellent ladies and the food was varied and tasty.

Suddenly, however, early one morning there was a noise in the corridor outside our room and we found workmen stripping wallpaper, skirting and light fittings!!

We complained to Reception staff and were told basically that it was too bad as the hotel was being refurbished. We were begrudingly offered another room but did not see why we should have to bear further inconvenience and timewasting moving all our possessions as it was after all our holiday time. Reception said they would make a note of our complaint but no action was taken. No apology was or has been received by us to this day.

We spent the remainder of our stay returning to our room each time amid plastered walls, wet paint signs, bare light fittings and splattered carpeting (we have photos!!).

This work was obviously planned and we are still annoyed and shocked that we were given the room on that floor from the beginning as the staff must have known. Also no note was given on the Delta Reservation website when booking to say that refurbishment is taking place.

So stay at this hotel if you must but be warned......they pretend to care but dont.

A great hotel!

from mayagaller
I stayed at Delta Bow Valley with my two friends in late March 2006. We're there for four nights.

Originally we're booked for 9 but had to change it due to unforseen commitments. There were no problems with that at all, the hotel's reservation department was very helpful.

Upon arrival at Delta we got our room immediately. All the requests we put on file were fulfilled: we got a cot and the requested riverview room on a high floor.

The room was modern, convenient, and clean, and so was the washroom.

The food was great as well. The buffet breakfasts were delicious and reasonably priced. The Elements restaurant and longue were great as well.

Note: the hotel is currently undergoing some renovations (selected floors) but it's not distractive or anything.

Paid through the nose!

Stayed here in February of 2006. Paid $189 for a standard room. Outrageous! Got a threadbare bed spread and dust covered furniture. Hotel is right next to the downtown fire department. Sirens night and day! Overpriced lunch buffet. Not enough perks to warrant a charge of $189 for stay in Calgary in the dead of Winter. Will not stay here again.

Delta Delight!

from BanffBabe
Stayed at The Delta Bow Valley for one night. Arrived at 10:30 am from Banff, and could hardly believe our luck when my mother and I were able to check in immediately. Living and working in Banff, I know how difficult it can be for housekeepers to have an available room that early in the morning. Pam at f/d was very helpful, as was Colin on the concierge desk, who was able to get us all the information we needed for getting around town on a Sunday. As we were staying at the Palliser the next night, we were concerned about having to cart our luggage all around town until we could check in, but the staff were able to hold our bags until that afternoon. I definitely recommend the Delta Bow Valley for any of your needs, pleasure or otherwise.

Really Good Hotel

from bridgemagoo2
Stayed here 1 night September 18 2005. Really good hotel with very helpful staff and excellent rooms. Good location for Chinatown and 7 blocks (10 mins) from Tower and Museum. I would definitely return here next time I was in Calgary. Plenty of airline staff stay here and they know how to pick a good hotel!

Magnificent hotel at magnificent price!!

from playitcool
We stayed there for 2 days in August for the start of our honeymoon tour to Canada. Because we stayed during the weekend we got a ridiculously cheap rate through Expedia, paying around 30GBP a night.

The hotel is very clean and tidy and the room we stayed in was quite modern and spacious. The breakfasts, which we paid extra for, were very good with a large choice and the wait staff were friendly and provided keen service. The pool and hot spa are included in the price and are worth a visit.

The hotel is situated only a 5-10 minute walk from the main hustle and bustle of Calgary, so it cannot be faulted for location either.

If you ever visit Calgary for a weekend I would recommend this hotel unconditionally.

Very Nice

from work2travel
Great Location! Central to everything and easily accessible. Check-in was effortless & was fortunate to have been upgraded to a Deluxe Premier Room. The view was stunning, as was the size of the suite.

Enjoyed a nice walk to the Eau Claire Market & then did the Barclay stroll down to Td Square, Eaton's Centre, & Banker's Hall. You can do some serious shopping damage here!

Room service was delicious, with the service being fast & friendly.
Great variety of in-room entertainment, taken advantage of during a rainy night. Pool/jacuzzi area is very nice- only wish I was able to take advantage of the lovely patio/sun deck.

I highly recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to stay at a superb downtown hotel.

Excellent city hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
We had previously stayed at the Delta Bow Valley two years ago (for one night) and returned again in July 2005 (for four nights, two rooms). All our room requirements were met, and we found the rooms clean, comfortable and well-equipped. There seem to be good views of the city from all aspects. The restaurant was very good, and the buffet breakfasts were excellent. Staff were pleasant and helpful. For a city hotel, we also thought the pool area was good.

Top Local Tips for Calgary

Walking & Driving around in downtown Calgary Easy to drive around, not too crowded. However, the City has a lot of developments and constructions in town. Very common to close a whole block for a year I heard. Lots of 1-way streets but it's actually safer that way. You'll know when you see it. :) We were also told that it is absolutely safe to walk around even after dark (th2 sun sets at 10 pm at this time of year) but there is a drop-in center (homeless shelter) a few blocks to the easide of the hotel - we were warned to stay away from the eastside as a result.

Stampede buy a cowboy hat or you'll feel out of place. Good choice of hats and boots at Riley & McCormick. We stayed for three nights and that was just right. Went to the Stampede and the Tower.

Zoo & Silver Dragon Silver Dragon,Very good Chinese, only a few blocks away.Calgary Zoo was awesome
