Top Local Tips for Banff

Banff in general Food isn't as cheap as expected. We were ripped off a couple of times. Banff avenue is very small. In an hour you can visit ever shop. Visit the top of Sulphyr mountain in the Gondola. Magnificent.

Always talk to a person when booking your room A great view and a great balcony can make a GIGANTIC difference in the overall hotel experience when visiting a place like Banff. Don't rely on good luck to produce you the room of your dreams. Call the hotel personally. Ask questions. Before telling them which room type you want to book, make sure that type of room meets your desires. Specify what you're looking for. Put in a request for a room with a view. Ask about alternatives in similar price ranges. If you're going to spend hundreds of dollars on a hotel stay, take the extra 5 minutes to talk it out and make sure you get your money's worth!

October is Perfect We went from Oct. 13-16 and that time is perfect.... less crowding, last days for some of the tours (the Icefield closes on Oct. 15) . It was chilly enough to wear comfy sweaters and scarves, but no ski crowd yet. Dinner wasn't crowded, hotel was very quiet.
