Top Local Tips for Dubai

Watch out for the unlicensed taxi drivers We used unlicensed taxi drivers a few times and were right royally ripped off. A trip from our hotel to the Mall of the Emirates cost 60AEDs with an unlicensed taxi but only 40AED with a licensed one. If you want to avoid this, only use licensed taxis who have a meter running, or who you can easily tell are licensed by the colour of their cars.

Dubai is a Building Site Do not stay at the Marina, Jumeira Beach area at the moment - Its a building site. I can remember this area as virgin desert and I was so disappointed on seeing what is happening there.

Cheap as cheese and nobody walks Taxi everywhere! They are cheap as cheese and as regualr as a tube train. In fact, we walked sdown the street the 1st morning and within 100 yeards we realised it was too hot to be out walking, and low and behold a taxi drove by and saw us walking and just stopped without us hailing them. People in Dubai simply dont walk, anywhere, it is too hot and too impractical they taxi.
