A very enjoyable and lazy break

Cannot fault this hotel. Although there is room for improvement. All the staff were very friendly and polite. We booked an 8 night bed and breakfast package. The breakfast selection was extensive and a good range of food on offer. It is not worth paying the extra for a sea view room as there is a 8 lane road outside the hotel. To access the beach club you have to go under a ridiculously designed underpass. Which is not much fun when the temperature is 44 plus degrees. You're dead before you arrive. My main bug bear is with the beach club as it is open to members as well as Hilton guests. In the afternoon it was full of very noisy, spolit and unsupervised teenagers. If you have small children then please, please supervise them in particular at the childrens pool where they have a water slide. As we saw an Arab looking guy who is around 25 years old and on his own (and must be a member) who likes to hang around this area. We actually witnessed him taking photos of children on his mobile phone. So please look out for your kids I'm sorry to say.
The Marina Mall is literally in front of the hotel. The Hilton does operate a shuttle to the mall, or alternatively you can walk which takes 20 mins or get the local taxi which will cost around 40p. Check out the Carrefour hypermarket, for cheap water and soft drinks. For those Brits who like a spot of retail therapy, there is a good selection of shops and plenty of places to eat.
There really isn't much to do in Abu Dhabi as it is very quiet compared to Dubai. But if you are looking for sun and shopping then you will enjoy your stay at the Hilton.

Poor All Inclusive deal

We have just returned from a 9 day stay at the Hilton in Abu Dhabi. As a family of 2 adults and 3 children aged 15, 14 and 6 we thought the idea of an All inclusive package would be cost effective.
1) All inclusive package included beer, wine, soft drinks - this turned out to be one house beer, one white house wine, one house red wine, coke, diet coke, sprite, diet sprite, fanta and ginger ale
2) The "All inclusive" was only available at the La Terrazza restaurant at night which meant that we had breakfast and dinner in the same place every day, 9 days of one beer and one wine in the same restaurant with a lot of the food choices similar is not exactly exciting or interesting. The all inclusive restaurant closed at 10.30 pm Sat to Wed and 11.00 pm Thursday and Friday, there is a bar but the AI was only available for 1/2 hour after the above times.

We contacted the reception who basically said, "That's the choices, you can have other drinks and at other bars but you only have to pay for them, the contract is with the travel agent and that's what is in the contract". I became frustrated and asked for the Bar and Catering manager, We discussed with him our concerns and he commented they had put ice cream onto the all inclusive because of other comments. He stated that there was a management meeting the next day and he would bring this up and let us know, suffice to say we heard no more.
At the beach restaurant two days after we were told that the ice cream option had been removed and now was only available to under 12,s. The AI option in our opinion is definitely not what it should be.
In my opinion this is not how a 5 star hotel with a name of the Hilton group should be operating, we have stayed at a large number of 4 and 5 star hotels and this was definitely the worst. The difference here was that we personally felt that the customer came second, whereas in Dubai the customer always came first.

Another gripe is that the beach club seem to operate a policy of letting anybody enter, on a Thursday, Friday and in particular Sunday and Monday they let youths in from the local American school, you cannot get a seat around the pool and they are jumping and throwing each other in the pool and the language was not acceptable with young children around, the staff seem to have given up, they blow a whistle but the youths just carry on, they were even drinking and smoking in the pool. In our opinion you pay top money to go to a 5 star for rest and relaxation not for it to be a glorified 18-30 holiday.

On the plus side and to try and give a honest view the beach area and facilities are very good and also the food in the La Terrazza restaurant was of a very high standard, its just that on AI you have no choice than to eat there. It was our daughters 14th birthday whist we were there and they gave her cakes and flowers which was a very nice treat, it was just a shame that on the 1st day we were there they attempted to give her a wedding anniversary cake, never mind its the thought that counts. I personally feel that this is the difference between this hotel and others in Dubai itself, they do try and get it right there. The staff were very friendly and were reasonably helpful, its just that they seemed to have guidelines and there was no flexibility to sort out any problems.
Things do appear to be cheaper in Abu Dhabi generally, taxis, drinks, golf, clothes etc.
All in all, we still had a nice time its just not quite right, we have visited Dubai 4 times recently and this did'nt really come up to the standards there.

Good Location - Good Facilites

We stayed at the Hilton on a weeks All Inclusive deal. On arrival it was soon obvious that it wasnt actually what we would class as all inclusive. The deal included eating a buffet in the same restaurant every night - where the service was very slow - with the option of a certain Dutch Beer, House Wine or soft drinks. I dont drink Beer or Wine so this wasnt much good for me. The food in the hotel was ok, and quite abit of selection but by the end of the week we had enough of it and ate elsewhere. The Breakfasts were good, and if you go to the Hiltonia Beach Club you can eat at the Coconut Bay Restaurant which gives you the choice to eat from a proper menu - not a buffet. It was also obvious that many of the staff were not even sure what was included or not. In some places we could have cider on this deal, and some we couldnt, this also changed daily and no one really knew what we could or not have. The poolside bar also looked down their nose at us, handing over our vouchers and insisting on cans of soft drink rather than the postmix drinks from the pumps. Coffee was included at the Vienna Coffee bar where the service and staff were great. The Jazz Bar is a fantastic bar which had a good atmosphere and the other bar Hemingways was ok, although more sports themed. The hotel rooms itself were well spaced, very comfortable beds and all the mod cons that you would need. Clean and spacious also. When it comes to sea view, there is a sea view but just though your window and you also over look a busy road before seeing a small amount of water, not really worthy of the "Sea View" title. The hotel is perfectly adequate and clean even though the building is now looking dated.
Concierge couldnt have been more helpful if they tried. The hotel is right next to the Emirates Palace which is amazing. I could only descibe it as "Grand". We went for dinner in the Italian there one night which was great and definately worth a visit. Surprisingly reasonable too. The Hotel is also close to the Marina Shopping Mall which is worth a visit if you like a bit of shopping !!
We have stayed in the Hilton in Dubai which does stand out from this hotel, espeically with the service at the Beach Club. All in all, i would return although i would go back to Dubai first before heading back to this hotel.

Good Hotel Overall

Stayed at this hotel for 4 days in May, 2006. Would definitely recommend the executive level rooms, as the free drinks and canapes in the lounge area are worth the extra fee. The Thai restuarant in the hotel is outstanding - incredible food quality and very good service. Rooms were clean and well maintained, although somewhat dated. Beach area is accessible via a pedestrian tunnel under the busy corniche road, but it is relatively nice with a couple of pools and casual bars. Exercise facilities are top-notch.

Good time at the Abu Dhabi Hilton

My husband and I have just returned from a most enjoyable week at the Abu Dhabi Hilton. We experienced excellent and friendly service throughout our stay – we arrived at 09:00 and although check-in was officially 14:00, we were allocated a room within a hour. We had a 6th floor standard room with sea view and it was extremely comfortable, well maintained and equipped with all the necessary requisites such as tea/coffee facility, hairdryer, iron and ironing board, mini bar etc. Breakfast was included in our rate and this proved to be very good, catering for all tastes and accompanied by excellent service. There are a number of restaurants within the hotel – we tried Hemingways, Bice and Vascos – all different and all very good quality and value. The Hiltonia Beach Club is accessed through an underpass – we had been concerned about this, but it was no problem – very clean and bright. The club has 2 large swimming pools, a childrens pool with water shute, beautifully landscaped grounds and a stretch of beach. There are plenty of sun loungers and umbrellas with willing staff to assist you if necessary. There are a couple of beach bars and a beach café which served good food. The restaurant, Vascos is also situated here – open for lunch and dinner – it is very popular and advisable to book, especially if you want to sit outside on the decking overlooking the sea. The Hilton runs a free shuttle bus service in the evenings to the Marina Mall, which it overlooks, and to the city. The Marina Mall is a comparatively small shopping centre – the Abu Dhabi Mall is bigger and better. The hotel is located at the end of the Corniche, along which it is really pleasant to walk to or from the city. It is approx 2Km from the centre and benefits from not being slap bang in the middle of a city. Walking around is not a problem, but taxis are very cheap and it does not take long to get anywhere in the city. The Emirates Palace Hotel is clearly visible from the Hilton and is approx. 20 minute walk. We did the formal tour (booked for us by Customer Relations at Hilton) – it cost 100 dhr and lasted an hour. You receive a voucher for this value which can be spent in the coffee shop at the end of the tour, which was very interesting and informative – photo’s and videoing allowed. There are numerous restaurants located in all of the Abu Dhabi hotels – we particularly liked the Fish Market at the Intercontinental as it was a novel experience choosing fresh fish and vegetables and then selecting a cooking method and additional flavourings. Our return flight was in the early hours of the morning - the Hilton extended our checkout to 15:00 at no extra charge and we then used the excellent shower,changing and dining facilities at the beach club before taking a taxi to the airport. We would have no hesitation recommending the hotel and Abu Dhabi.

Super Hilton Service

I have just returned from a half term break with my wife and two daughters,I thought the hotel staff and facillities superb and all including drinks restaurant and watersports very reasonably priced.
The Hiltonia beach club is free to residents as is gym and spa all of a very high standard.
I cannot praise hotel staff enough always polite,courteous and friendly I will visit again.

Fabulous service

Tried Abu Dhabi this year instead of Dubai and choise the Hilton.
Many bars and restraurants, all at a reasonable cost compared to Dubai, the beach club is wonderfull, Service typically Hilton, rooms are a bit buisness like but large and very comfortable. Near to the Marina shopping mall, heritage village and other sights incuding local cafes. No alcohol problem in the hotel, again at reasonable prices. Will go back, both to city and hotel

Abu Dhabi? Go Hilton!!!

We have just returned from an 8 night stay in the Abu Dhabi Hilton and it was fantastic! The level of service was second to none. A limo from the hotel collected us from the airport (about £10). We stayed in a standard Hilton room, which was more than adequate for our needs. Clean towels at least once a day, sometimes twice. Fresh fruit and ice delivered each evening, with the 'turn down' service.

The hotel has nine different restaurants / eateries, we tried most. Buffet breakfast and dinner (£14) was excellent in the Terrazza, great coffee and cake in the Vienna Plaza (£2.50), very reasonably priced cocktails (£3 during Happy Hour) in the BiCE Italian Bar & Restaurant and you must try Hemmingways Bistro for steaks etc. (2 course meal with wine £17 p/head).

With all the opportunity for over indulging, there are plenty of ways to burn off all the calories. Through the underpass into the Hiltonia Health Club & Spa. This has 2 excellent swimming pools (1 for kids with a flume and shallower water, the other designed more for adults), at both there are always lifeguards present. Both pools have bars and there's also the very reasonably priced Coconut Bay for lunch (if you can manage it!) There are plenty of sunbeds and unbrellas but get there early for the best shaded spots. The temperature never dropped below 41c while we were there. There are also tennis courts, putting green and the obligatory gym.

If sea and sand are your thing, then this a just a few steps away from the swimming pools. A private beach area, with even more sunbeds and plenty of water sports in the beautifully warm Arabian Gulf.

For shopping (which must be done), there's a courtesy bus to both the Marina Mall (which is about a 10 minute walk if you can stand the heat) and into the main shopping area. You can also take a taxi to the Abu Dhabi Shopping Mall (worth a visit), which is about £2.

All in all a fantastic experience that I would recommend to anyone.

The reviews of this hotel are mixed & I can see why but I really would not fault the staff- they were very helpful when I showed up early for check-in after an overnight flight & were very friendly throughout the stay.

The staff are very friendly & I thought the breakfast buffet & the snack & cocktails on the beach were good & fairly priced- for a Hilton. The private beach & swimming were pretty good too.

Some of the other reviewers are less kind about some of the decor. In fact the public areas & my room were fine although perhaps more of a mid west American rather than European taste (make of that what you will!) but I think it is a fair comment that the beach bar & beach furniture was a bit past its prime.

My other comment would be on the location- there is not much within walking distance (of course its a limited radius in the Gulf heat) & depending on the time of day it was not always easy to nab a taxi from outside. You know the story- you fly half way round the world for a long weekend & check-in to a 5 star hotel but begrudge paying the full taxi fare so go outside to save a bit.....

Its fine....its just not the Jumera Beach in Dubai....

Top Local Tips for Dubai

India Palace 3 years ago this place was awesome. In February 2008 it has bombed. Unfrindly service, dark and dank and the food was truly awful. So wanted it to be as good as March 2005 - has the owner changed?

Weather One great advantage about the Hilton is the beach club and the ability to swim in the sea, in the pool and enjoy the food facilities which the club has. We've just returned from a trip in February when the climate was in the late 20s, which was lovely. The club has a very reloaxed feel but it's not "loud" so it would not appeal to teenagers.

As good as Dubai Having previously been to Dubai, we were pleasantly surprised that the shopping in the Malls in Abu Dhabi was excellent. No need to go to Dubai! Abu Dhabi has the relaxed feel of Muscat, but with much better shopping.
