Never again!!! This place is NOT 4 star!!

I was looking for a one-night, place to relax in a comfortable setting. I am very used to getting a quick place to stay, and have been to many hotels in my lifetime. This time, I trusted websites instead of my own judgement. After being checked in, they insisted on keeping my passport for one hour. This is something that I never have been asked for in all of the international hotels that I have been to. One should never have to surrender a passport to anyone. If anything, a photocopy of my passport has been taken, but never the original. They claimed to "need the original". I insisted on "needing to wait" and they were done in about 10 minutes. Hmmmmmm. I don’t advise anyone to agree to that. I’ll let you figure out what that was all about. Walking down the hallways, there was that "incense" smell everywhere....not very pleasant. Once inside the room, I put the "Do Not Disturb" sign out, dead bolted the door and immediately noted that I was NOT in a four or even three star hotel. The carpet was stained and worn. The wallpaper was stained and peeling. The "brass" light fixtures were worn and rusted. It was freezing cold when I entered and there was no heat. The room had that peculiar Indian from India smell to it. (You know the one I'm talking about). All and all, the room was of a cheap motel quality. I was very displeased with everything I saw. The "mini-bar" consisted of a mini-refrigerator with a 4 cans of soda, 2 bottles of water and a crumpled juice box. The refrigerator was also very dirty. The bathroom was appointed with VERY cheap amenities and decor. Only a couple towels and no washrags. The tub's bottom was cracked and worn. Toilet seat was cracked and dirty. The bathroom floor was dirty. The shower has one of those hoses that are detachable from the wall, which would have been nice if it were clean. It seemed to have years of calcium deposits on it. Which I think is gross. Having been in worse hotels, I decided to make the best of it. The water in the shower would not get hotter than warm and the in room thermostat did not regulate a thing. I froze my butt off and I had just come in from out to sea on a ship with the Navy. The last thing I wanted was to freeze as I had for the last 6 months. The TV remote didn't work correctly (channels sucked anyways, no cable) and the internet access was dial up. I had to unplug the phone to use the internet at a per hour rate. This hotel was definitely NOT four stars. It was more or a two star and that is being generous. I do not recommend the stay at any price above $19.99 a night. Maybe I have been spoiled in my time but I paid $230 for an experience not worth a shit. I felt compelled to write this review after seeing that somebody gave this place a four star rating. The fact that they did is why I chose this hotel, based on rating and price. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS HOTEL AND WILL NEVER STAY THERE AGAIN!

Nice And Quiet

Hotel was very nice. Little far from the center but taxis were easy to get. Hotel taxi drove to the beautiful beach every time we wanted and it also took us back, and it was including to the hotel service. Food was good and people in hotel were friendly. We liked a lot !

Very Disappointing

We had booked a room for an early arrival at 6 am. Upon arrival we were told our room was not ready. We had to wait until 1000 and, despite numerous other guests arriving and being given rooms, we only got one when we went to the front desk and insisted on being given a room. We had booked a double room but were given a twin. We accepted as, after an overnight flight and a 4 hour wait in the morning, we were too tired to argue. After an hour's sorely needed rest, we were disturbed with a phone call from reception who had dialed the wrong number. We found the staff generally unhelpful and uncaring. The women running reception when we arrived was downright rude. Staff rudeness was only partially redeemed by the man running the taxi desk who arranged our early morning taxi on departure. This was my first visit to Dubai and quite frankly the extremely poor treatment we received at this hotel means that, should I through some disaster have to visit Dubai again, I will do everything in my power not to come to this hotel again. I have informed several friends and relatives who have cause to transit through Dubai to not, under any circumstances, consider staying at this hotel.
