Why Dubai ? safe, clean, exotic, doesn't have to be expensive, Jan/Feb weather ideal. beaches/shops/souks/elegant hotels/nightclubs, Deira(old dubai) small enough to discover on foot. But 7hrs flying time from London, no real lakes & mountains, becoming overdeveloped in the tourist trap (5*) areas, traffic gridlock hence need to chose hotel location carefully. A new singapore in the making.

these boots ARENT made for walking In Dubai car is king... if you dont have wheels, you have problems. Almost everywhere we needed/wanted to go required a taxi. The city does not cater for pedestrians, there are few underpasses/footbridges. Several times we tried to walk to destinations less than a mile from the hotel and found it tricky.. sometimes there are no pavements either!!! Allow plenty of taxi-budget and also beware of rush hour traffic, when going anywhere can take a long time.
