Not Bad for a Small Hotel

from FXRS1969
Me and my wife stayed at this hotel during the month of September 2006. The hotel is situated approximately 1 block from the ocean. From the outside, the hotel looks old and tired, but it is really nice and quaint inside.

The rooms are very small, but who spends lots of time in a hotel? The bed is comfortable and the bathroom is very small. The shower stall is so small, you would have a hard time bending down if you are a large person.

The hotel staff are very nice and helpful. The breakfast which is included is very nice and tasty.

I would stay here again if I travel to Tel Aviv in the future.

Relax at Hotel De La Mer Tel Aviv

We spent 11 wonderful nights with our five year old son. The location was great for beach, shopping, restaraunts and sight seeing. The hotel staff was friendly, professional and knowledgable. We will return soon and often. Thanks.

Little Paris

We stayed at Hotel de La Mer for 2 nights. Our room had a large balcony that overlooked the busy Tel Aviv beach. The hotel was elegantly decorated in the Art Deco style with a great bathroom. The staff were always friendly and helpful. Breakfast was charmingly served in the courtyard which added to the European experience. A superb boutique hotel well located for exploring Tel Aviv

Good experience and good location

We stayed here for 2 nights. My husband was a little mortified by the looks of the place from the outside, as they are still renovating. But, once we got inside, he felt better. The desk clerk was very helpful and kind. He steered us to a great seafood restaurant on the beach.

I had already read the other reviews of this hotel and knew there was a parking lot between the hotel and the beach. It was still a nice view from our room (unless you stood right at the window and focused your view down to the parking lot), and worth the extra $16 or so for the view. Most ocean view rooms seem to have balconies. Ours did not, but our room was also a little bigger than most.

Our room was not large. But, it was clean. The bathroom was quite small, but again, clean. The A/C was quite lame, which is not good in Tel Aviv in the summer time. We asked for help with it, and the hotel sent someone up, who basically said it was as good as it gets. Take the fan off of "auto" and keep it on all the time. That will help, but it is still not good and something the hotel really needs to correct.

The location of this hotel is actually quite good. The beach and beautiful, extended brick beach walkway are very close by. It's a beautiful walk into the "old city" of Jaffa, a must-see. The ocean is striking in the morning and through about mid-afternoon - a beautiful blue/green. Later in the day, the angle of the sun makes it look like a lot of other oceans. So, don't miss the view earlier in the day.

Very Misleading - Stay Away

I loved the web-site of this hotel BUT our actual stay at the De La Mer was very disappointing.
First of all, it is not on the beach at all. There is a very large parking lot in front of the hotel so you can "see" the ocean from the "view" rooms, this hotel is not ready for guests yet. Front desk staff are not very helpful. On one occasion my daughters were made to wait two hours for their breakfast. The air-conditioning in their room was broken but only after two full days were we offered another room and we had to move our own luggage because they never got around to it.The hotel does not have a luggage cart nad no one offered to help us with our luggage. Though we had booked two rooms well in advance but we were put on two seperate floors. The bathrooms are tiny, the shower stall is so small you can't reach down to your legs without bumping your head on the glass. And there is no dining room, it still is under construction, though the web-ite says it was open in 2001 I was told that it was a hostel then. To add insult to injury, the server on the patio had a tank top with a certain four letter word printed over and over all over the front of it. My wife, our twelve year old and I could not believe our eyes. We will not be returning there and we will tell anyone who wants to listen to stay away from here until they get their act together (and replace the misleading information).

very disappointed

Were told by agent it was on the beach. Not even a balcony and the view of the water was a real stretch. We overloked a parking lot. The elevator was broken. Bathroom dirty. Never again.

nice and cozy

i was on my business trip and had to write a report everynight and their easy access to the internet was very helpful. would love to come back to this hotel again!

Home in Tel Aviv

from DonnaE
We stayed 8 nights Feb 06 and felt like the Hotel del la mer was more of our own little apartment building than a hotel. Hotel de la Mer provides rooms on 2 levels accessed by marbeled stairs (or elevator) with light airy decor and hardwood floors. We actually stayed in a back room without a sea view, but it was very quiet, roomy with a nice mirrored closet and jet tub/marbeled shower. Rooms are immaculate with windows that open to let in fresh air. Rooms 207 and 206 were being remodeled while we were there. There is a constant attention to improvement. Hotel feels new. Cooked to order breakfasts, served to the room, were so nice! The staff is super friendly and easy to talk with. Spa is lovely with 4-5 massage treatments available! Front desk will book appointments for you and booking last minute evening times weren't a problem. The parking lot separating the hotel from the ocean is actually nice - it assures sea views and doesn't block those gorgeous sunsets best experienced from the roof ! There is an abandoned building across the street but many original buildings in TLV are slowly being restored and the area is extremely safe. No problems walking at night. We researched lots of hotels before booking and visited a few during our time in Tel Aviv. The major chains on the beach (Sheraton, Renaissance, Carlton, Hilton) look a bit dated and unless you get a great deal, may not be worth it. They're also a bit too far North to make for a convenient walk to Dizengoff and Carmel Market. Dizengoff STE Apts. on Dizengoff Sq. looks great from the outside and Cinema Hotel is new & modern inside, but their locations aren't as desireable. You'll want to visit Dizengoff Square, but stay on the beach (de la mer is a block from beach & promenade), especially if you're in Tel Aviv on Shabbat when beach cafes stay open but intown shops and restaurants close. Tel Aviv is compact and you'll be able to walk most of the city from De La Mer(north past the marina, south to Jaffa, and east to Azrieli Towers if it's a nice day and you're not rushed). Opera Towers is a block away, and both Dizengoff Square and Carmel Market are only 5 min. walks. Taxis do have trouble finding it. We eventually asked taxis to let us off at Metroplitan Hotel around the corner and we cut thru a parking lot to Hotel De la Mer. Print out the map from hotel's website to give to your cab driver from the airport. It has arrows directing them to the hotel. This makes a great base to visit Jerusalem (less than an hour away and only $7.50 RT on the bus) yet you can return to fun, warm, Tel Aviv at night. Shalom and enjoy Tel Aviv and the Hotel de la Mer!

Charming little hotel

from FayMinneapolis
We stayed in the De La Mar for one night in February 2006. The rooms are small, with tiny bathrooms, but what it lacks in space, it makes up for in warmth and friendliness. The staff went out if its way to make us feel welcome. The breakfests are made to order and are served at your choice of location in the hotel. There is free coffee/tea/water and biscuits all day. We asked for information on the history of Tel Aviv during the war for independence, and the clerk shared not only this information, but his family history in the holocaust and immigration to Israel. We left the hotel with a deeper understanding of not only Tel Aviv, but Israel itself. I would definitely return to the De La Mar on my next trip to Israel.

Loved it!!!

from adabada79
We just came back from Israel and we spent 4 nights at Hotel De La Mer. From the outside, it is nothing to brag about. However, inside, it was very clean and comfortable. The staff was very friendly and accomodating. Our room faced the Mediterranean and we had an amazing view. The room was small but very comfortable for 2 people. It was very clean and had no smell. The shower was comfortable and very clean. Complimentary breakfast every morning was excellent!! It was delivered to the room. We also got a complimentary tour of Jaffa, which was very informative and well-organized. We would highly recommend staying at this hotel. Getting a room with a view is a must!:)
