Very nice stay

My wife and I stayed at the City Hotel for 4 nights on the last leg of our recent trip to Israel. The hotel is well located and has nice, modern, clean rooms (albeit a bit on the small side). We had a room with a balcony which was nice, but the weather was too humid to make use of it. Breakfast is very good, and there are great cafes and shopping about 4 blocks west on Dizengoff St. The only issue we had was that at checkout, we were charged in shekels instead of the quoted US dollar amount, and were charged too much. The hotel quickly gave us a refund on our credit card with no hassle. I would stay there again, and recommend it to others.

Stayed in a corner room on the 3rd floor. Very adequate - not big though. Nice little balcony with a view of the ocean. Beach is a five minutes walk. Dizengoff centre is 10 minutes. Surrounded by shops, restaurants, cafes - but on a quiet street. The free parking is great as parking is difficult in Tel Aviv - but there are a limited number of spots available. One of the better breakfast buffets - great shakshuka!

City Hotel.... Great stay

We stayed at the City Hotel for 5 nights and were given a recently renovated room. The room is small yet very comfortable and the staff were helpful and obliging. The hotel is a mere 3 minute walk from the beach and vibrant streets in Tel Aviv. We would definitely recommend this hotel and look forward to staying there again.

renovation needed for the 1st floor rooms

We stayed at the hotel for 3 nights at the middle of May.The room was far the worst i ve ever stayed at.We had booked the hotel via internet and we were given the old non-renovated rooms at the first floor.The bedsheets were at the tones of yellow,long forgotten their white past,so we had to put towels to sleep on.We stayed at a twin room and only one of the two beds had a bedside-table and lamp.The room was very basic and had the worst view ever.It needs a renovation immediately.
The hotel is very close to the sea though and offers a nice breakfast for the israeli standards.The staff were very friendly also.

A charming lady (called LESYA) advised me, following my requests (quite close to the see, close to the shops, etc)
And the CITY HOTEL was absolutely perfect for me... so close to the see (...maybe 100 m futher than other expensive hotels...) close to the shops (50 m from a "bancomat"..., 200 m from the local "champs Elysée") , nice kidding people...rooms very calm...very clean...
I've been working half of the time, but still, we could work at a terrace almost feet in sand, with a refreshing delicious local white wine!
No doubt that is where I wish to go back with my wife next time. Thank you for your help . Marc - LIEGE - BELGIUM

Fresh, IKEA style

We had a high floor, corner room room with a view of the ocean a block away, and of the city as well, plus a teeny balcony. Not luxurious, but simple, clean and fresh. Some of the hotel -- notably the miniscule elevatores and the worn carpet on the stairs - needs updating, but much is pleasant. Breakfast is terrific with an excellent array of loose teas, israeli salads, smoked fish, cheeses, pastries, eggs (boiled, scrambled & poached in spicy tomato sauce), fruits, cereals, etc. etc. Room amenities include wifi, flat screen tv, & electric kettle with turkish coffee.

Great, unpretentious happy hotel. Simple, it's true, but clean, friendly, fantastic breakfast, great location, pleasant room (and I am fussy) and acceptable bathroom. Nice and small feel to place.

Great Simple Hotel

The City Hotel was perfect for our needs. We had a renovated room with a sea view, and a little balcony. Our room was big, with a sitting area (couch, coffee table), and a big bed. The bathroom was tiny but who's hanging out in the bathroom anyway. The unrenovated rooms didn't look as nice. Everything was clean. The rooms have safes, for $1.50 extra a day. There is a nice wardrobe to put your clothes in. The bed was very comfortable. It was a 3 minute walk to the beach and was in a good, safe location. The side street location was nice b/c it was quiet. Breakfast was good, not tremendous, but definitely good fresh food to fill you up. I would recommend the hotel to anyone going to Tel Aviv who wants a good, not fancy hotel for a little over $100.

Good location, rooms were clean,bathroom was tiny but then how much time do you spend in there. Breakfast was very basic.
Hotel staff friendly and helpful. Value for money for what we paid. Had a room with a sea view.

A Very Basic Accommodation

The hotel staff was cordial and helpful with directions and local info.
The lobby area is a bit small, but clean.
They offer one computer at the lobby to browse web – free of charge.
The dining room was very basic but the staff was very accommodating.
However, the rooms do need remodeling.
The carpet in our room had serious wear and tear signs.
Room decor is very Spartan and old. Formica furniture form the 70s.
Bathroom was small, basic but clean.
In other words- very modest accommodations.
I did not feel like at home or that I wanted to extend my stay.

Top Local Tips for Tel Aviv

Jellyfish season Late June and early July, the Medusa jellyfish invade the waters on the Israeli coast. Swimming during the height of the season often results in nasty stings, and often more than one. The jellyfish wash up on shore and because of their size can be seen in the water. When I arrived in Israel in late June, I wouldn't swim off the Tel Aviv beach but by mid July, the water seemed to warm enough that they went back offshore. The beaches are great. No charge to go to the public beach but if you use the chairs, umbrella's and tables there is a charge of about $10.00 for the day for 2 people. Well worth it. Also each beach has decent public bathrooms, showers, places to purchase drinks and snacks and most have change rooms. Very strong undertow off Tel Aviv so only swim where there are lifeguards.

Walk the promenade Make sure you walk the beach promenade in the evening, particularly on Saturday nidht. This is the side of the promenade directly adjacent to beach, in some parts below street level. A lot of fun activity, musci, dancing , restaurants.
