Stayed at hotel in 2004 when it was called Blacksea hotel. Room was average, long walk to city centre. Gym was ok. Staff in general were helpful. Nice if hotel was little closer to centre. Not much in the way of cafes and restaurants around hotel. Could not find nite club in hotel. Bar and billiards on one floor, plenty of hostesses to entertain you.

Top Local Tips for Odessa

Taxis drivers If you have American money don't use it. Taxi drivers love American money. They will charge you more then the rate. So if you think its too steep bargain with them. You should only have to pay 20 dollars or less from the airport to the hotel. If your an American trying to drive on these roads, if your a very good driver i mean know how to drive in really cramped traffic during the day I would not recommend you rent a car here. Traffic really does suck.

Good places to eat The restaurants all had great meals. The least expensive - a Cafeteria "Zharu-Paru" on the corner of Preobrazhenskaya St & Grecheskaya St (complete dinner for about 15UHr pp). The most expensive "Kumanetz" Ukrainian Restaurant (behind Gorsad - City Garden on Langeronovskaya St) - 200 UHr.\pp Also visited a Georgian Cafe called "Suliko" but don't know were its located as was brought there by friends (500 Uhr for 10 people inc. booze). "The 4 Bulgarians" on Yekaterinskaya St was a pretty cool experience (300UHr\pp) All incl. 20% tip

Odessa Opera House The house reopened last year after estensive renovations and it's breathtaking. It was packed (families with kids seeing Nutcracker ballet) and everyone was taking photos of the lovely interior staircases, 4 tier balconies, and lovely lighting. Very tastefully done. I had a good parterre seat for just 50 HUA (about $10).
