Enjoyable and good staff
from A TripAdvisor Member
Stayed at the Newport Hilton in March 2006. We stayed for one night. The hotel is next to junction 24, M4. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The service was great. We had a three course meal in the evening which was lovely and there was certainly plently to choose from for breakfast.
The room was a great size. We did ask to change rooms as the bathroom was in need of refurbishment. We were given another room without any problems and were told that they were spending over a million pounds on refurbishment soon. The rooms are very quiet and we had a good night sleep.
The pool was nice and warm.
It was certainly an enjoyable stay.

Good Base

Stayed here for 2 nights (Fri&Sat) as we were going in to Cardiff to watch the rugby on the Saturday. Hotel is a good base and only 30mins drive in to Cardiff.
Hotel was clean and the rooms quite large. The bathroom could do with updating and a fridge in the room would be handy but ok on the whole. Large choice at breakfast and staff very attentive, evening meal (buffet style) was included on our first night, was ok but would not have paid the £20 per head the following night as not a large choice.
Car parking was £3 per night and there was plenty of space when we arrived late on the Friday.

Perfectly OK.

I think this hotel is getting a raw deal from the reviews. It's OK - don't let the reviews put your off. But don't plan your break around the hotel - it's perfectly adequate for a rest-up from the M4 and the pool and gym facilities are really nice.
It's not air conditioned. (I made the mistake of staying here in mid summer last year). The staff are really nice and keep asking if everything is OK - and the coffee is improving. (Coffee is still a problem as in most UK hotels.) Breakfast was really nice this time (I got up early)and there's good vegetarian
provison.
Yes - I was annoyed by the (potential) car park charge. But let the the front desk staff know your plans and there's usually a way round.

We stayed here whilst visiting family and we were very pleased. My daughter (8 months was very well looked after (as were we). The staff were excellent and the food was superb - you must try the breakfast. The rooms are a fantastic size and the pool, and sauna were a joy to use.
Burglary!!

I was in Hilton Newport just a couple of days ago and i had terrible experience-someone of the staff stole my digital camera which was on the table in my room(so much about "service with the smile").I must admit that, apart from that, everything else was even worse-hotel itself is dirty, noone changed my sheets for days and it's just not right. It's such a shame...Worst hotel ever!!!
Good Value

I've stayed at the Hilton Newport on a couple of occassions now when attending nearby events when I've managed to get a good rate. Even though I only live the other side of Cardiff it can work out a better deal than taxi's etc and this was indeed the case when I stayed for a night in Jan 06.
The price we paid was approx £60 per room inc breakfast and at this rate the hotel is good value for money. I've stayed in nicer Hilton Hotel's but I've also stayed in much worse & I can only judge the place on my room & experience and there's been nothing about my stay that I could really fault. The room was large, clean & well equipped. The bar & it's staff were fine & very helpful & the Health Facility & Pool were fine. Certainly not state-of-the-art or anything special but it matched my needs. The sauna wasn't in use when I visited but this hardly ruined my weekend. The only other negative aspect of my stay was when we got charged for parking which I find really annoying for an out-of-town hotel. When staying in a large City Centre you expect this but not on the outskirts of Newport !!!
In summary if you get a good rate for this hotel & aren't looking for something too special I'd recommend a stay here.

Took my girlfriend there for a romantic (but expensive) stay. On arrival we had to wait nearly 10 minutes for the lady on reception (checkin) to aknowledge us, not even a " be with you shortly sir".
When we got to the room it was clean, but the pillows had a few ciggarette burns in, we unpacked and thought right we can enjoy ourselves now.
Firstly we tried to book a film but couldnt, i phoned reception and they said this function was not working until later in the week, I then asked for the key to the minibar, reply was "sorry sir your minibar is empty".
We then ordered room service which was £18 a head throw in £3.50, the meal was basically an iceland or tesco special, she had a chicken cearsar salad which wasnt the best and i had fish and chips which was poor.
Id also like to thank the Arabic guy who had his TV turned up full blast all night and then to the cleaner who argued with him in the morning..
Would i go back....no chance in hell...

This is not a Hilton Hotel. It's disgusting. The rooms aren't just old and tired but also very unclean. When dust gets old it gets sticky and my room was sticky. Stains everywhere. From the bedding, to the walls, to the ceiling and the bathroom furniture.
I complained to reception and got no joy. I emailed Head Office and no reply.
I stay in UK hotels once a week. Usually Marriott or MacDonald and I have never had to a write a complaint before.
Avoid this hotel you can do better.

Popular choice for conferences...

Stayed for two nights, along with numerous other business types. Rooms were large and clean, and the staff polite. The room decor was scruffy in places though. The bathroom in particular was very cramped and in real need of redecoration. Not exactly value for money, but if the company are paying and you really have to stay near Newport rather than Cardiff then you could do worse I suppose.
Absolutely Excellent

Stayed there for Christmas. Staff excellent and meals fantastic. I let them know in advance that I have food allergies and the catering staff went out of their way to ensure that there were meals especially prepared for me. Staff very professional and the room we had was a very good size. Thoroughly recommend this place.
