Perfect Location
from A TripAdvisor MemberModern Luxory Across From Castle
from HistorianaFabulous Views over city
from A TripAdvisor MemberIncluded in executive room tariff is free use of executive lounge. Again with wonderful views. Continental breakfast was served here. Good choices. Free soft drinks/tea/coffee all day and after 5pm, free alcoholic beverages.
Very comfortable seats, daily newspapers and magazines supplied.
Visited health club. Enjoyed stainless steel swimming pool plus sauna/steam room.
All staff very helpful and very pleasant. Five star service without any stuffiness.
All in all an extremely pleasant experience which we hope to repeat very soon!
perfect!
from Philip6974This is the best hotel in Cardiff, you will have a comfortable and enjoyable stay here.
t fault it
from driver142Checked in at 15 00 and was upgraed to the executive floor (Hilton Hhonors Gold) Great room and big bathroom with walk in shower big enough for 2.
Ideally situated across from the castle, walking distance to the shopping centre, and bus stop outside to the railway station.
Staff were efficient and polite at all times.
We had breakfast and dinner in the conservatory which is added on to the dining area, had no trouble from people passing by as one reviewer did, but you could sit in the main area if it is a concern.
The health club ammenities are typical Hilton nice pool which is stainless steel, sauna and steam room on the side and jaccuzi at the end of the pool area. There was a lane created for the dedicated swimmer.
The executive lounge, how can you fault something which is completely free, if you're eligible. I would say that you could easily get 25 people seated comfortably.
Overall a nice stay in a modern Hilton.
Enjoyable Weekend
from A TripAdvisor MemberThe rooms were also very nice, spacious and clean.
The food was very enjoyable and although we booked B & B we also eat all other meals in the hotel, they were quick to arrive and not over expensive. We had great nights out in nearby bars which were all in walking distance.
The hotel was right on the doorstep of the shops so when the bags got to heavy it took minutes to return them and go back out for now.
Beauty Treatments were very relaxing and the Therapists were
nice and friendly. Our only real complaint is that our break went by far too quick next time we will definetly be going for longer. Thank you Hilton for making our weekend a great one.
Favourite city favourite hotel
from BritBeanLocation - great, central for shoppers, tourists, pubbers, clubbers.
Rooms - great - big with great bathroom - double shower plus separate bath. Beds are compy and room large enough for having drinks with friends in.
Sports - pool is largest Hilton pool outside London. Its large and great for swimming or playing! We (4 adults in mid-20s) had great fun with the swimming aids - staff great, jacuzzi lovely, steam and sauna also good.
Restaurant - really good food for breakfast and dinner - very plentiful. We had package which inc breakfast and 1st night dinner - well worth it.
Staff - great. Advance checkout best - can do it from TV in room.
You will get lost trying to find the ice machines - just keep walking!
Overall great hotel - we drove - 1 car per couple - just pull up out front and give keys to the guys in uniform - its £10 per night for that service and inc the parking. Its well worth it. I drive in and around cardiff alot and believe me £10 is very good for overnight given that ncp parking is expensive in itself and you have to find a space yourself. So just do it - you feel great saying "car please" and they are very quick and courteous
Excellent Hotel, Excellent Staff
from AndyMeCheck in was smooth and efficient. No waiting around for our booking to be processed.
The location of the hotel is excellent. Close to the castle, the museum and the shops. Cardiff Bay is a bit of a treck, being nearly 2 miles away, but I think the benefits of being more central outweigh this. Its a 15 minute walk to the train station.
We stayed in a Junior Executive Suite (Room 612) which I would highly recommend. I think that all of the rooms are probably OK, but we were a bit spoilt getting this room. However, I would have no qualms in booking a standard room.
The Executive Lounge is not very big, but it is fine for the "free" continental breakfast. If breakfast is in your rate or you require a full Welsh breakfast, go to the main restaurant area downstairs.
Dinner in the restaurant was excellent, although there are plenty of other good places to eat in central Cardiff.
The restaurant and the bar seem to get used by non-residents which means they are fairly busy but it shows that they must be OK otherwise the "locals" wouldn't be there.
Although we did not use the pool or leisure facilities they looked OK.
The only negative thing I have to say about the hotel is why can't they have Molten Brown toiletries in the guest rooms if they can have them in the public facilities? In fact why can't Hiltons in the UK have any decent toiletries instead of the strange tube things that won't stand up in the bath or shower?
I've given the hotel hotel 5/5 as it was "excellent." However, hotels can always do better - like not giving you the wrong newspaper in the morning.
Would I stay again? Most definitely yes! In fact I'm looking forward to going back.
PS I think the TripAdvisor User from Texas must have been in a different hotel.
Nice big bathrooms!
from A TripAdvisor MemberOverrated!!
from A TripAdvisor MemberWe eventually got there (the maps they provide are not good) to find that there is only a small layby dedicated to the hotel to load/unload. We had to call the porter to come and take our luggage else they would have happily watched us struggle from the window. Our car was then whisked off around the corner to an underground parking - Valet Parking, £10 per night.
We had booked the Executive Rooms on the top floor but to our suprise, they were just as big as the standard rooms. There were extra's in the room (robes, chocolates, etc) but the price increase didn't refect the 'executiveness'
By the way the Parma football team were also staying there for a friendly with Barcelona the next day - very busy !!
We had 3 course dinner at the hotel restaurant which was surprisingly good AND filling !!
Booking an Executive Room allows you to use the Executive Lounge -don't bother !! - This is a room (15 people max) with a few tables and chairs and in the evenings, it gets very very busy. They even serve breakfast there so the next morning we decided to settle for that rather than the main breakfast bar on the ground floor. We had 1 hot item (scrambled eggs) available and all the rest of the items were cold. The breakfast seemed to be a reduced version of the main one. So the next morning we went to the main area to find lots of variety. Conclusion: GO TO THE MAIN AREA.
We also tried the hotel pool and jacuzzi. The water in the jacuzzi had to be changed so we were waiting around for that, but the pool was nice. The whole of the leisure area was very nice but the fact that it was open to the public (via membership) put us off a little as the chaning rooms were quite busy.
My conclusion is that its a nice spacious hotel, location is excellent, avoid the executive rooms though as well as the executive lounge, go to the gym/pool areas in the afternoon to avoid the rush and sample the 3 course meal !!
Oh yeah, if you ask for a taxi in the evenings to a nearby place, the Bay area for example, the hotel will take you there in their own MPV at no cost !! (we did tip them though)
Top Local Tips for Cardiff
Enjoying Cardiff There is much to enjoy in Cardiff. The Castle, the park, the Bay. There are good restaurants too. Avoid going out in the city centre on Friday and Saturday nights. It is full of drunken yobs - like most UK cities but worse. I have seen low life throwing rubbish bags at passers by, being sick, urinating and even fornicating. In the daytime it is quite pleasant.
Right in trhe centre of the city You can't go wrong with this hotel as it is so centrally sited. A stoll out of the door and all the shops and arcades are there!
can be booked up early book early if concert or sporting event on at stadium. try hiotels website for offers, seems better than other online sources.
