Historical Traveller Reviews of Cardiff Marriott Hotel

Very helpful staff

from HarriEl
Stayed at this hotel for one night this summer. The hotel is very nice but it was the staff that made the difference. They were very helpful. The hotel is also in the town centre so its only a short walk to most places. Only con was the view, which was over some rail tracks.

s not that bad!

Being booked in with my company, My collegue and I read the reviews on here with much anticipation. We were expecting a poor hotel...

....and got a great hotel!! - The double rooms were excellently prepared, the room was well appointed with all the usual amenities and was serviced daily.

Dinner was in the resturant and, although the menu gets a bit repetative after 5 days, the food was fantastic. I recommend the Sirloin Steak ( a bit steep at £18.95, but cooked to perfection). Breakfast was excellent too with a wide selection of foods , but only Pork and Leek sausages.

The only down sides are that until October 2006, the hotel is having some alterations done, but it is not that much of an inconvienience. Also the staff are friendly, but not super friendly.... efficient is the best word.

And watch out in the bar , do NOT ask for a double, as the shots are already in double measures ( as I found out to my cost on more than one occassion) and if you want your mini-bar opening, they need a £50 per night limit placed on the room, so they may ask for a card. Why not just produce a bill???

A Great hotel, well maintained and would certainly go back. The negative reviews are just not a reflection of the current state.

Disappointed...

from Gowerfarm
I would have given the hotel an average rating, but expected more for the price. Stayed in an executive room on the 8th floor which was smaller than I had expected. Mini bar was half empty and no mineral water supplied as is the norm for a 4* hotel. Air con didn't work, room was unbearably hot in the night which coupled with the boom boom thud from the bars below which went on until 3am, needless to say I had little sleep.
My partner and I drank 2 bottles of mineral water from the mini bar at a cost of £5.10. Car parking in hotel was a nightmare, we saw 2 cars reverse into parked cars during our 1 night stay. The one way system to enter the car park is a nightmare to figue out.
The toilet seat had dried nail varnish on the surface and the mini bar and tv stand was caked in dust. The room was generally very dated and needs a good make over in order to meet the cost.
On the possitive side the executive suite breakfast was super and the lady serving was very pleasant and location of hotel very convenient.
I have previously stayed in the 4* Holland House which although not as convenient was a million times better and cheaper!

disappointing

Pros - great central location, definitely worth considering if using train; nice pool, sauna and steam room (but not huge so will be busy at peak times); good (tho not outstanding) breakfast

Cons - very urban location, bars/roads/rail on every side - take ear plugs and choose room carefully if light sleeper; car park charges (£8.50 at marriott; £12.50 at nearby NCP); saggy mattresses with springs perceivable in our room

The car park is frustratingly difficult to access due to the one way system. Check directions carefully before you leave. Also check for big sporting events at millennium stadium as the hotel will be very crowded, probably boisterous, and more expensive on those days (+ may be traffic problems entering or leaving Cardiff).

Great weekend destination

from wheretonow
Recently stayed at this hotel for two nights. Location is superb; arriving by train it was only a short walk to the hotel. The receptionist couldn't have been more helpful. The room was a good size and spotless. We were on the top floor facing the city (geat views). Overheard others on lower floors on the other side of the hotel saying they could hear the trains in the night. Plenty of choice for breakfast. All in, a very pleasant weekend. Highly recommend.

Not Good

from JGRL
Recently stayed at the Marriot during a rugby international week end. I expected the price to be higher than ususal but £345 is more expensive than the Savoy. Room was tiny much smaller than usual and the roll away bed for our child never arrived. The room service dinner was the worst food I have ever attempted to eat. The burgers we ordered were not just over cooked but burnt to a crisp and rock hard; extraordinary.
Room was clean and service helpful.
A hotel surely wants to be busy ans should not treat repeat guests like this.

Excellent Stay

from wonderbread1428
I stayed at the Cardiff Marriott for 5 nights in February 2006. The hotel is in a great location in the city center, within walking distance to many attractions. The room was a nice size and was very clean. The beds were very confortable. The room also had a great view of Cardiff. Breakfast was included with the room and it was excellent. The pool and health club was also very nice. The staff of the hotel were very polite. The Cardiff Marriott is the best hotel in the city and I will definitely stay there in the future.

Winter Warmer

from A TripAdvisor Member
Decided to try the 'Winter Warmer' offer for 1 night in a delux room!. Arrived to find the room far from warm...heating not working. This was promtly reported and a heater delivered to our room. The heater was so noisy it could only be left on for a very short time.....Winter Warmer it was not!! Plus the delux room turned out to be identical to the standard room we had previously stayed it. Lovely hotel for a summer break!.

Fantastic Hotel

One of the BEST hotels I have ever stayed in, Excellent staff bedrooms and facilities if you are going to Cardiff don't look anywhere alse

Great breakfast!

from lovetoroam_7
My husband and I stayed for 2 nights in September, the room was lovely, couldn't fault it, the bathroom the same. We were on the third floor, overlooking several bars, which are extremely noisy on Friday and Saturday nights! The noise goes on until about 3am, so if you are a light sleeper take ear plugs or join in the fun!! You really are very close to all the attractions though and if you love shopping it is perfect.
The breakfast is excellent, so much choice and such tasty food, very polite waiters.
Found the bar extremely expensive and a bar snack in the evening very average. The staff are efficient and very friendly. Parking is not included in the price and the car park is inadequate, cars blocked us in on our final night and we had to ask for them to be moved.

New Car Park head to hotel as normal and turn right to new car park

Great food Try Le Braisserie over the road - yum!!

Something a little different but oh so good! For a great night out that is not the usual thing, try Minisky's a great club with a twist; it has live drag acts. They were fantastic, funny and great singers. Loved every minute.
