What a find! An excellent hotel. Fantastic food, delightful cocktails, great service and the best view I have seen. Will be back soon.

For such a picturesque place, it was very disappointing to be met by such unfriendly staff. The first room we were given was unbelievably small, dark with cracked tiles in bathroom and definitely in need of a makeover. We were moved to a slightly larger room with a view to the car park!.
Do not have a Cosmopolitan cocktail - at £6 the bar staff have no idea how to make one. The Kir Royale at £10 each are more expensive than New York! The food is bland with unfriendly staff. The view is pretty but certainly not worth the cost of staying here.

Management Response from Ian Fleming, Owner
Readers could be forgiven for being a little confused by the significant variations in customer experience. Two weeks ago we relaunched all our standard rooms after complete renovation and this followed two years of refurbishing the restaurant, bar, lounges, reception, exterior and back of house. We have some planned additional works to carry out to our Lake View rooms and the addition of a large herb garden and gazebo, all in the spring. Over the last four months we have been bedding in a new management and kitchen team with great results, complimenting the physical improvements. If any customer should have concerns during their stay, please tell us whilst you are here in order that we can put things right or make your stay more enjoyable. My wife or I are usually in the Hotel and there is a Manager at all times.

Stumbled upon The Lake of Menteith Hotel by accident and found a hotel with a fantastic setting right next to the lake. We stayed for the weekend and really loved it. The food was great and the genuinely friendly staff just added to the stay. The manager told us the restaurant and bar had just been reburfished and they have done an excellent job in creating a relaxed North American feel. Our room was good sized but could do with being refurbished, however the manager told us this is planned. This is a great place to chill out. We will certainly be returning.

Although the dining area and bar has been recently rennovated, the bedrooms left much to be desired, with rotting carpet by the bath and generally a good redecoration/refit required. When commented to the manager, we were lead to a recently reffited room, and told they were in the process of fitting another. Hardly what you want to see when you've obviously been given the rough end of the stick.
Also the website mentioned a 'Specialist Whisky Bar' this was still being fitted when we arrived. No one had told us this.
The food, although good, was sold to us as a Nick Nairn Signature Restaurant on the website. However we later found out that there was no real connection to Mr Nairn, and this had been removed from the website on the weekend of our stay. Presumably because they know they could be had up for Mis-representation.
The Staff were friendly and helpful, and the location is beautiful.
All in all though, very disappointing. Not what we had been lead to believe by the......

A perfect experience will be had here for those who want to "get away from it all" The accommodation, the wonderful food and the atmosphere is the best my partner and I have sampled in years. The staff incredibly attentive and the setting of the hotel is truly restful. Long may Ian Fleming and his family develop this wonderful place
