Top Local Tips for Portree
The Isles Pub On the square in Portree, there is a great pub, the Isles, that is one of the best in Scotland. It has subdued lighting, very comfortable couches, and great drinks (try the Cullin Red -- it is from Skye, and if you do not like beer, have a Strongbow's with Black Currant Syrup). You are guaranteed to meet very friendly people at the Isles. And there is music most nights. Be sure to ask for a rendition of 'The Skye Boat Song' (wee bonnie boat, bird on the wing, onward the sailors cry, ...". And try not to cry halfway thru.
Wonderful Restaurant Try dinner at Chandlers in the Bosville Hotle, Portree. Wonderful food exprience, with unusual dishes such as smoked lamb and scallops with balck pudding. The all in price, which included a "taster starter and soup course" was very good alue and the wine list was quality at fair prices.Finally the staff were efficient with a friendly manner. The bar also had a comprehensive range of malt whiskies with knowldgable staff to serve. All in all a great find on a wet Saturday night. And the chef's own cook bok is worth buying.
Don't miss the Bistro I can't remember the name of the bistro but it is directly opposite the Royal Hotel on the road to the Harbour
