Top Local Tips for Portree
Staffin Staffin and surrounding district is beautiful. Lots to see - not a lot to actually 'do' but that is made up by the amount of breathtaking scenery and walks. Museums, Flora Macdonald's grave, craft shops and Uig and Portree are not that far away. Staffin has a beautiful rocky/sandy beach with lots of fantastic cliffs and caves.
One track roads! All the way from Portree to Staffin people drive on a one track road and need to use the passing places if another car comes from the opposite side. A bit tricky.
Get out there, whatever the weather. Walk a bit of the Trotternish Ridge. There is a car park near the hotel, and you can do a walk of about two hours which takes in some stunning scenery.

My wife and I hosted our wedding reception at the hotel and booked out all the rooms for the invited guests for a period of two days (March 3rd, 4th 2006). What we experienced was cost cutting on the hotel's part with a view to boosting their profit margin which as a consequence had a massive effect on the hospitality we received. This hotel is renowned as being one of the best in Skye, and I know that Skye is quite rightly so promoting itself as a superb holiday destination, but our experience left a bad taste in the mouth as we headed back to London.
