Worst hotel and spa break ever

Went to the hotel for a relaxing anniversary weekend. When we got there on the Friday afternoon they told us the spa treatments we had booked in for were not available. They had no record of it despite the fact we booked six weeks in advance.

Friday evenings dinner was not great at all - Overcooked and a rushed three course meal.

On the Saturday morning at 2.30am the fire alarm went off then once more about an hour later. Utterly exhausted we slept through breakfast. When we finally got up I repeatedly tried to find out what had caused the problem. Every time I asked the staff just shrugged their shoulders and said, "I don't know".

No announcements were made, no reassurances were given that the situation was under control until I finally managed to speak with the manager about 12 hours later.

Feeling incredibly anxious the entire day, coupled with our sense of being made to feel unimportant, we went back to our room on the Saturday evening after a better dinner, settled into bed and the alarm went off yet again. Completely stressed out at this point we decided to cut our losses, check out there and then and find a better hotel, which we did. This was at 10pm in the evening.

Lodged an official complaint with Crerar hotels and wasn't at all satisfied with the response I was given. We were offered a discounted rate and a free spa treatment if we wanted to come back. Given the distance travelled and having absolutely no confidence in the hotel or the staff I didn't feel that was acceptable compensation for a ruined weekend.

In response to the complaint I was told that the situation had been, "handled correctly". That about sums up their attitude towards customers if you ask me.

I replied to the offer made telling them that I was not satisfied. That was two weeks ago and I'm still awaiting a response. Indifference is the word that springs to mind.

A totally spoiled anniversary weekend. I've never reviewed a hotel in my life before but felt so strongly about the way we were treated that I had to say something here.

The girl in the spa was lovely though. Shame about everything else.

Being a sole traveller, I chose the Scotland Hotel for its location and previous reviews. Having found it on pitlochry bed and breakfast site I was delighted that they could squeeze me in. The room wasn't the biggest in the world, but how much room does one person need. It was clean and very comfortable. I found the staff to be polite and pleasant and the food was tasty and was more than ample. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and would recommend it to anyone.

Fantastic Hotel - Definatly the best in Pitlochry

Well where do I start - stayed here for 5 days and to tell the truth - brilliant the hotel staff were friendly and could not do enough for you. The Bar Area was inpectably clean and smelt fresh and new, the lady behind the bar I think her name was Joanne - a credit to the hotel - she made our stay well worth the while friendly and nothing was too much of a problem for her, my daughter was ill for the last few days and even though it was not her job to do the running about (I needed a fan and a bucket of ice) she was only too happy to help us and on our departure produced a sealed bag of ice for the journey home - I cannot highly recommend this hotel and the polite and down to earth lady behind the bar. The restaurant staff spoke little english but were very professional the manger Anna was also very friendly and polite, the food and service were excellant. I could not have asked for a better break. I would recommend this hotel to anyone - They are undergoing a refurbishment at the moment and I would say once this is done the hotel will be the best in the town. I also have to say that the Italian Restaurant was closed due to refurbishment, which was a shame, as I have heard brilliant comments with reference to the food, and from speaking to the lady in the bar its going to be a Brasserie, well worth waiting for to see the finalised results. The Receptionist that I spoke to was also friendly and very informative.

Family suites are large with a separate children's sleeping area. Would benefit from more wardrobe space if staying for longer than a weekend. Family rooms were in a building across the road from the main hotel & despite a baby listening service advertised in the guest information, this was not available on the new phone system. Bed was very uncomfortable. Double room a little cramped. Rooms clean. Leisure facilities were adequate.
Restaurant menu was dreadful. Food lukewarm, very poor helping of vegetables & many courses had a supplement. Last booking for tables was 2030hrs & we felt rushed by staff who clearly wished to finish their shift. The only time we were not 'hurried along' was whilst waiting for coffee, but we discovered that this was due to the staff having left 30mins previously without clearing the dessert dishes or delivering the coffee order. Breakfast was also very basic.
This hotel is suitable if you are looking for a basic, no frills break. However, it is by far the worst Best Western Hotel we have stayed in.

perfectly fine hotel

Stayed Fri, Sat night in June 2006. perfectly situated hotel, very pleasant, helpful staff, room was spotless although bed a little uncomfortable although others may find it perfect. fresh towels and cleaning done every morning. But the corridors and bar area could be doing with a freshen up but certainly didn't spoil my break in Pitlochry. Food was excellent although some items on menu were at a minimal suppliement. But even with the suppliement the cost of Dinner, Bed & breakfast is very reasonable. Brilliant cooked breakfast just what you need after a swim in the pool. Great to have the pool and sauna, gym especially if the weather not so good. All in all a perfect hotel to stay. Well worth the money.

Good value, basic hotel

Stayed in Best Western Scotlands Hotel in Pitlochry in May 2006 for 3 nights. Hotel is very centrally located, right in the heart of the small village of Pitlochry. Hotel is basic 3 star, which met our needs. The rooms were small but clean and comfortable with good shower. Hotel has small leisure centre with small swimming pool (more for splashing than swimming) and sauna and gym. The breakfast was very average - full scottish, limiited cereals and toast. I would NOT recommend staying for dinner - we ate there one night and the food was very average and the service like a conveyer belt as they wanted us in and out very quickly.

We were looking forward to a weekend break and booked into Scotlands Hotel. On arrival we were delighted to find the hotel was in a great location and on entering the hotel we were greated by the friendly staff. Although we arrived early we were allowed into our room immediately. The room was big, bright and clean with a large clean bathroom. The views from the room were good.

The leisure facilities were good and we enjoyed having the pool and the jacuzzie to ourselves for a period of time.

The food was very nice and there a good selection of wine to choose from.

We enjoyed a nice relaxing evening in the lounge.

We are planning a return trip.

My friend & I stayed 3 nights at this hotel for some hillwalking, running, cycling and pampering! We were not dissapointed. On arrival the staff were very friendly and let us check in early and store our mountain bikes in a secure area. The room was sufficient in size and kept clean - towels changed every day etc. The hotel is in a very central location and Pitlochry is close to many low level walks, bigger hills etc. The leisure centre was great and usually very quiet with a jacuzzi at the side of the pool. The food was delicious and plentiful - we went home with round tums. We booked some pampering a few weeks in advance (suggest you do this to to ensure you get booked in) - the ladies were brilliant and very friendly and the prices reasonable. We felt very pampered by the end of our stay and will book again.

1. Receptionist: Uninvolved with a could not care less attitude. Said we could not eat till 8.30pm. Wrong; but wish we had taken heed and gone to the chip shop.
2. Food: Microwaved, dull, school cantineish, had to send both plates back the second night, they had the audacity of charging £22.00 for scallops as a supplement, the breakfast toast was ok!
3.In 53 years have never experienced a more uncomfortable bed!!!
4. Decor: Shabby, dated and stained.

Helpfull friendly staff, ok rooms, ok leisure facilities - nothing special

Spent one night there whilst on a stag weekend. The staff couldn't have been more helpfull or friendly. The hotel was clean and the beds comfy. Probably all you need for a stag weekend. couldn't imagine staying there with my fiancee as the views from the room, and the size of the room were a bit disappointing. The leisure facilities were adequate. Again, nothing special, but did the job. Food was ok as well, if a bit sparse. We had just spent a day in the hills and were looking forward to a BIG feed. The helpings were on the minimal side, but at the price we paid, we can't complain.

All in all, i'd recommend it if you're looking for good, clean accommodation and helpfull staff, but if you're looking for somewhere more romantic or of high quality, i'd look elsewhere.

Honeymoon to FORGET!!!!!!

We were booked into this hotel for 2 nights 17 and 18th March 2006 after our dream wedding in Loch Lomond as this looked as though it had everthing and we were right it did, including ants, broken windows, musty smell, curtains falling down, lovely view of the bin area from our room. I think the photographer who took the photos should get nominated for imagination. Only stayed 1 night however young staff were helpful, Overall a honeymoon to forget

This has put me off staying anywhere in fact. Had a hopeless two nights there. Bad service in the bar, pre arranged food etc, not available even after being paid for. You are given the "annexe" not the rooms in the building advertised. Parties through both nights - Complained to the "family business staff" - plently of fluff, but no sense of responsibility - a tight ship!.
Complained to Best Western - No reply to email - what else can I say - If you stay here -DO NOT PAY UNTIL YOU LEAVE - Location is convenient only reason for trying it - I will certainly never go back and have refused a recent offer from a friend to stay at another Best Western.

Top Local Tips for Pitlochry

Avoid Avoid eating at Drummonds Pub and Restuarant. The food is dire and the service is appaling

FINE dining at Fern Cottage Book early, or the day before, arrive before 7 if possible and enjoy the most attentive service, some cracking food in a lovely small establishment. The choice of food and wine is just large enough to provide ample choice without being overfacing, some great Turkish delicacies in a fab bistro menu. The Fillet was cooked to perfection, Rare for the boss and Med-rare for me, filling, succulent, tender, WOW !The desetrts divine, and we could of lingered over a coffe or two, only seeing other people waiting to see if the could be fitted in made us feel so sorry for them, and we wanted others to experience the selight of Fern Cottage Pitlochry.

Pitlochry Heritage Museum Based in the nearby hamlet of Moulin, this is a little gem. Full of pictures and stories from the past. 12th century crusaders grave in nearby Moulin kirkyard. Beautiful town - Pitlochry really does bloom during the summer.
