Pleasantly surprised

Very apprehensive of staying at this hotel after seeing some very bad reviews,but pleasantly surprised.

Single bedroom was a decent size,lovely and clean throughout, I would say fairly recently refurbished with new but older style furniture.

Only thing wrong was I had a very sparkly picture on the TV, but some others in our coach party had an excellent picture.
Staff were pleasant and room cleaned well every day. Meals were excellent, especially the evening meals,with large portions of meat,and all very well cooked.

Some of the corridors could do with doing up,but otherwise good value for money.Meal times were staggered to accomodate all the coach parties, so sometimes we had to have breakfasts at 7.45am which was a bit too early.

If they had more staff on I Think this could have been avoided.Otherwise a good 3star hotel.

Staff shennanigans?

We were attending a wedding at nearby Blair Atholl Castle and the coaches to take us there were leaving from the Fishers so we booked there for convenience plus the hotel was a bit cheaper than other hotels.
First of all, the reception staff could do with a course in customer service. We arrived at 2:30, having called a few days before to arrange an earlier check in, and were told tht the room wasn't ready yet, come back at 3.
At 3 while checking in one receptionist was dealing with a phone call and was very rude about the person on the phone while she has them on hold.
We were given a room key and proceeded to the room. As we opened the door someone was inside and quickly hid in the bathroom and we could see clothes lying about so presumed other guests were in and swiftly closed the door.
Back at reception, we explained that someone was in the room so they checked the records and said there should be no guest there and it was probably cleaning staff.
If it was the staff, they certainly weren't cleaning!
It may well have been guests but they didn't really know.
We were given another room but no apology was offered at any point.
The room was basic but OK, the bathroom was functional but pretty grim, dirty ceiling and walls. Shower worked fine though which was main thing.
Breakfast was quite nice.
Again, reception staff when checking out were not rude exactly but unfriendly and did not inspire me to recommend this place or make a return visit.
In summary, this was just OK for one night stay only as we were barely there however I wouldn't stay there for a weekend.

A pleasant midweek stay, bargain price through laterooms.com. After booking , we read awful reviews of this hotel, so we arrived fearing the worst, but we were releived at what we found. Great central location, friendly staff, clean, comfortable room, lovely breakfast. Overall, an adequate 3* hotel. If you want 4* comfort ( and prices) this hotel isn't for you

We were booked into this hotel, due to a mix up with another hotel - we did not choose it!! We checked trip advisor and thought we would give them the hotel the benefit of the doubt - WHAT A HUGE MISTAKE!
We can only say that all the negative reports are true and more. Showers are mouldy and dirty, you even have resident flies! Toilets are very tempremental, beds are awful - would have been better on the floor, curtains are dirty. Generally carpets are stained and taped down with black tape, dead flowers are on display - a nice touch, I must say! Paint is chipped, doors are dirty and food is overpriced.
The only good thing about this hotel was checking out - DO NOT STAY HERE.

We didn't even stay! We took one look at our room and left. the reception staff were poor to say the least, we we're allowed to check-in even 4 minutes early. We had asked for a downstairs room because of disability but were given a room on the top floor at the end of a long corridor. the room was extremely shabby, furnishings very tatty, one of the beds looked as if it hadn't been made. The bathroom was disgusting, the windows filthy. The rooms were nothing like the pictures on the web-site. i wouldn't go anywhere near the place.

Booked a late deal which worked out at £49 for one night with breakfast for a twin room. Booking in time should have been 4pm but were allowed into the room about 3pm. Had wrong information at reception - had up booked for 4 nights instead of 1. No explanation given. Room on 2nd floor used elevator, tripped over carpet on leaving elevator, not good for anyone unsure on feet, wood surround looked like door had been kicked in and was split in two around lock, new lock had been fitted, old one still remained, room basic, old fashioned and musky, filthy windows faded very old curtains, bathroom had black mould where obviously there had been a leak, this had not been treated never mind painted, very shoddy. Phoned to ask to be moved to another room, staff obviously aware how bad room was and did not protest and asked me to collect "another set of keys from reception to view another room" 2nd room slightly better no mould, old bath no shower, again very old faded bedding and curtains but windows were clean. Had to wait maybe ten minutes before being seated for breakfast then order coffee toast waited almost an hour before finally being given our cooked breakfast and were offered fresh toast and coffee/tea by head waitor who had taken it upon himself to take order when people started leaving fed up waiting I presume, no organistation or leadership for the waiting staff although they were friendly and polite. We certainly will not be back or recommend it to other visiting the area relaxing break NOT!

Hotel very shabby, but at least the sheets and towels were clean. Reception and bar staff were friendly, but I do not advise anyone to eat in the restaurant unless you have pleanty of time on your hands! We waited 30+ minutes for a table at breakfast every day. This was due to lack of staff or lack of staff who knew how to set tables! Ate in restaurant in evening on one occasion. Food very overpriced and not particularly good. Portions small and tasteless. Had to send lamb back twice for being almost rare and very fatty. Restaurant staff very non-commital and not in the least apologetic. This could be a wonderful hotel as it is in a beautiful location with lovely grounds with tables and chairs for outside eating/drinking. A pity that the hotel could not follow it up with service in this area!

Fishers is trying to cater for coach parties and individuals - and it can't. We were asked to wait half an hour for breakfast while they tried to seat all of the elderly coach party, the whole hotel is shabby with mismatched furnishings, chipped paintwork, stains on our ceiling from a previous leak, and the hotel ran out of shower gel half way through our stay. Some of the staff were very friendly and helpful but not all. We certainly would not stay there again.

I booked online and added a specific request for a double room rather than a twin-bedded which the online system insisted was all I could get. Arrived at the Hotel and no mention was made by the Hotel of my request. We got a twin-bedded room which was extremely warm but was as far away from the pub mentioned by other reviewers as it could have been. Consequently the room was quiet. The en-suite was shabby, the room decor was tired and the wardrobe had a door which refused to shut. Two light bulbs were blown. The beds were clean and actually comfortable and the towels were changed daily by the efficient chambermaid. The reception area, sitting rooms and bars had all been refurbished and were welcoming and warm with real fires lit and refreshed. One bar was used by guests but drinks were never served in it during our stay - we assumed because the other bar which was in use was directly opposite. The staff were polite and efficient and many were foreign, here to learn english even more fluently! They were, however, too busy to be able do so in a completely relaxed way. Breakfasts were as ample as you chose with a reasonable variety and the cooked breakfasts offered were quite generous. Strangely, the rolls offered were bought in and were bland, lacked variety and suffered from being left in the bread basket for too long. The coffee was not hot enough. Dinners were reasonable with enough to eat once all the vegetables had been added. A complainant we witnessed mystifyingly refused the promptly and courteously offered alternative dish. The wine list was quite comprehensive and reasonably priced.

Top Local Tips for Pitlochry

Around Pitlochry Be aware that the Fish Ladder and Dam are closed for major work until end of March 2007. If you are able, a walk up Ben Vrackie is worth the effort. You don't have to go all the way to the top! Great views and a good way to burn off some calories either before or after dinner!

peaceful walks in a picturesque town Follow the walks depicted on the notice board at the Tourist Office. If eating out, try the "Prince of India's" menu, a street or two's walk away from the hotel. The wee restaurants near the Dam and Fish Ladder are very good, great location. Walk across the "suspension" bridge in that area but try to do it when others are on it - sample the weird effect underfoot... A short drive away (northwards) takes you to the beautiful viewpoints of the Queen's View and The Pass of Killiecrankie. It's also worth a walk 'round town, sampling the good shops which stop short of housing "tacky" Scottish souvenirs; include the Heather Gems factory in your visit. All in all, the town is a peaceful and beautiful wee place to spend a few days and nights; you'll return if you don't mind the lack of glitz, noise and neds............
