Top Local Tips for Onich
Ben Nevis Go to the Nevis Range. Go on the Gondola which takes you up up up!!! Fantastic...then get off Gondola at top and take the Ski lift chairs even higher! The views will take your breath away. We were SO lucky as it was 22 degrees and SUNNY SUNNY SUNNY!
Fort William Fort William, about twenty minutes north, has a great selection of shops and, best of all, is the starting point for the "Jacobite Steam Train" (Google) which makes a beautiful run out to Mallaig and back; a wonderful day trip. (The train was the "Hogworts Express" in the first Harry Potter movie.) Scotland`s highest mountain, Ben Nevis. looms over the town and a drive down and back Glen Nevis, with a good hike at the mid point is well worth the effort.
A May morning May is the best time to see Scotland but you can never guarantee the weather. This May was terrible but it didn't rain every day! The midgies start up in May but when the swallows arrive they gobble them all up. Try not to walk about in the late evening when there is no wind and the sun is setting unless the swallows are ducking and diving around you.
