Good, but spoiled by penny pinching and slow service at breakfast.from YorkshirePhil
fawllty towersfrom ash108
Incompetent and somewhat rude staff couldn't even get the room number correct.
Breakfast was appalling. Uncooked and tiny portions. I see they have the cheek to charge £15 for this!
Only good thing is the view over the bay from the bar.......avoid avoid avoid.

awful service - would not returnfrom kirstysnow
This hotel looks lovely - the food wasn't bad, but certainly would not recommend this place to anyone.
Great Hotelfrom C.Findlay
The facillities are great. I can't believe that at 7pm on a cold February night I was sitting outside looking out to sea in a hot tub! Luxury! There is also a wonderful sauna and steam room. There is also a spa where you can massages etc.
The whole hotel was refurbished last year to the highest standard. The room fittings are all very tastefull.
I would not hesitate to recomend this hotel to anyone and cannot wait to go back ! Top Marks !
Great website, shame the experience didnt live up to it...from Felix07
On our arrival we found our room to be small and with no view - granted we had come on a deal (£80 per night, bed, breakfast and dinner) so we got what we had expected - no complaints.
We decided to upgrade for £25 per night to an "executive suite". The heating was switched on when we got to the room it was about 0c outside so the room was fairly cold - we went out for a walkd thinking that when we got back the room would have defrosted. Wrong! When I asked for another heater I was told there werent any. (Scotland in January.. a hotel with no central heating... extra heaters should be available) - we got an extra blanket. Not much help when you get out of the bath and are cold!.
There was no proper shower in the bathroom just a bath with a tap attachment (..am wondering what "executive" doesnt need a shower ..)If you have long hair its impossible to wash your hair properly in a bath! I could have lived with this though but the room was still like an icebox ( I grew up in a house with no central heating so I am fairly hardy - I just dont expect this when I am paying to stay in a hotel!) The window then leaked all over the carpet when it rained overnight. We mentioned all of our issues to the manager in the hope something would be done but no.
The Spa facilities that this hotel offers are not what I had expected. A steam room that was not working properly and a monsoon shower that I couldnt get to work. The changing areas offer no privacy and are accessible by members of staff and external workers when you are using the facilities. Slightly odd...?
Our overall stay was not what we had expected or needed on our much needed getaway and it shouldnt have been. It was a quiet time of year and our problems should have been addressed properly. On departure we were expected to pay for the upgrade and were offered nothing by way of a discount to make up for our problems. If you want customer retention or recommendations a fifinancial gesture never goes amiss...
This hotel has all the makings of a good hotel but failed to show this whilst we were there. Its all very well having a great website and wooden floors but if your guests are cold, the rooms have leaky windows and the plumbing is substandard you have wasted the refurbishment money. Get the basics right PLEASE!!
Excellent breakfrom chris-hugh
The breakfast was one of the best we have experienced, and we spend a lot of time in hotels. All the courses were ordered from the extensive menu and served to the table. Dinner was a wide choice beautifully served and top quality. The staff were efficient and friendly and helpful. All in all this was one of the best value breaks we have ever had, costing £104 00 per person dinner bed and breakfast. for 3 nights.

Beware the shortcomings of this hotelfrom fkf
Although I phoned the hotel directly to inquire about air conditioning which I was told they had, they don't.
I asked for a room with a view and I got a view of the laundry and a gravel road at the rear of the hotel. Work started early in the day and the noise from same woke us at 6:30AM.
They aslo don't have a viewable tv, all the channels were snowed out. Didn't make much difference, the TV was a 11" model, about as big as the model in our mini van.
No clock, no radio, ,no wash cloths, 1 hand towel for 2 people, The mattress although fairly new had very little support and there were no springs or slats to reinforce it. No newspaper, no safe, no kleenex, no sound insulation. (we could hear the people next door), . There was no ice in the entire place, their sole ice machine was broken, we went to the hotel next door for ice water. On the up side, there were new Ikea quality firnishings, the staff was friendly and the bed linen was good.
lovely stayfrom creeps
Staff were very welcoming and friendly.lovely decked patio, to sit out and enjoy the views.
great cooked breakfast in a very pleasant dining room.
nice hotel, great viewsfrom chicolatino
The parking is not great with only about 7 spaces infront of the hotel and about another 7 at the back. People then tend to double park but if they do this they are meant to leave keys at reception.A tip for parking is to go to the back of the hotel. A road up the side of the cathedral then a small road on the first left. There was plenty room there even if it means a couple of mins walk.
We had a room in the extension of the hotel and this had been refurbished. They were nice modern rooms and had a lovely shower in the bathroom. Ours had a leak though and I think that the builders were not the best!!
The restuarant was nice and the food was ok aswell. The staff were pleasant enough but they kind of just wandered around not really under any orders. Twice we had to wait to have our order taken while 5 other tables who came in after us were served. We were in no rush but just a bit of guidance would have done them no harm.
We never used the spa or sauna as we were always busy but we did take a look at the hot tub outside. It was a bit grotty when we looked and had two cigarette ends floating about in it which kinda put us off so we never went in.
The conservatory at the front is beautiful and no matter what the weather there were always lovely views over to the island.
I would reccomend this hotel as it is nice and quiet but also central for visting Oban and i would probably go back there myself.
Top Local Tips for Oban
McCaig's Tower If you get the chance to go to McCaig's Tower definately go the view over Oban and beyond is amazing!
Typical Scottish coastal town Bring a rain coat with a hood as it nearly always rains at some point in the day and if you bring a brolly it will get blown away.
Parking As the hotel has limited parking, we found free parking 200 yards away and also hidden behind the cathedral next door!!
