I had a wonderful time with my parents and step brother. The staff were pleasant and helpful and always had a smile on their face. The rooms were nice and cosy and clean. I loved the entertainment each evening esp Jason Knight...hope you remember me because i will never forget you all. The Barman was also fab in the entertainment room each evening. With love A Rusch. Room 311.

My friend and I( we are both retired and both widows) have just spent a week at the Great Western. Oh! boy, what a week we had. None stop laughter from the entertainments manager Jason, the trainee manager who has a good sense of humour( remember Dylan I told you that you were a dead man if the water situation could not be sorted? You promptly sent up the plumber to our room and hey presto! problem sorted. All the staff were helpful and most polite at all times and the meals were very good and varied. My only criticism was that our room was rather small and the beds quite dated but all in all we had a wonderful time and we hope we will be back again sometime.

My husband and I paid £300 for three nights stay. It was money down the drain. The hotel from the front steps and door was cheap, tacky. It had a musky dated smell all around. The only good thing about it is that it has a first class maintenance man and he did his best. When all the hot water went off, front desk staff gave the impression they couldn’t care less. We won’t be back.

We booked....... then read the various reviews and worried!
The hotel is in a fabuolous location. Yes, it is "past grandeur!" but was clean and spacious. Our rooms were on the first floor. A double and a single. The sea view was worth the extra charge. The single room had a HUGE bathroom but the one in the double room was so small that the door couldn't open as it was blocked by the wash hand basin. The beds could do with being replaced and the creaky floor boards were sensational! The food was good and plentiful. Only gripe was that the dining room closed at 8pm which is high season doesn't encourage a good tourist image. However they did keep salads for us when we took the 3 Isle Tour which didn't arrive back in Oban untii after 8. The staff were friendly and helpful. We would go back again.
