We Stayed in the middle of August 2006, the staff were all extreamly friendly and welcoming, The rooms were comfortable and well kept, the service we received was impecable, however we clearly had a more experienced waitress who had grown up in the area. She was really helpful with ideas as to what we could do in the area, she was funny and even managed to entertain our children.(which by the way is very hard to do!). The food, in all honesty was to die for, thinking about the desserts now, still makes my mouth water. If you go to the Highlands of scotland, you simply must stay at the Morar hotel, you really wont find better!

Stayed for a 2 day break at the end of Julu. Room OK and great views but there were big problems with customer care. Apart from leaving us with no towels on day 2, and offering no apology, most problems were in the dining room. Slow service, poorly trained staff, some with a bad attitude, cold plates, most of wine list not in stock, weak coffee (even after returning it), bread delivered too late and numerous other issues. Staff seemed more interested in having a laugh with each other than in serving the customers. We complained, as did the couple at the next table and got a free bottle of wine in compensation plus £20 off the bill, though this was given very grudgingly and with no good grace by the Australian 'manager' who at the age of about 22 appeared to be the most senior person present. The hotel had just changed hands but I don't think this excuses the poor service. Some serious staff development needs to be met here.

Between my wife and I we spend about 5 nights a week in hotels. This is by far the worst hotel we have ever experienced.
When we got home, we were telling a friend about what had happened. They said that they stayed there in September 2005 and - had they known we were planning to go there -they would have told us NEVER EVER to go there.
The manger had our daughter in tears, embarassed his staff, and ruined our holiday.

This place gives Scotland a bad name. It is a shame because the location is so beautiful. Go anywhere else but here!

Morar hotel. A small hotel in the tiny village of Morar near Mallaig in the Highlands. Owned by a small family. A beautiful landscape and scenery. Sounds perfect for a young couple celebrating their anniversary. Wrong. It was more than perfect!
Me and my girlfriend picked the remote location to get away from the city to a small place where we could get everything in in just a few days. However, we didn't expect such a fantastic short vacation.
We arrived a little early before check in but this was not a problem for the staff. They were only happy to offer us coffee and show us up to our room. The two young daughters of the management even knocked on our door not long after arrival to greet us and we're ever so pleasant and polite. A true merit especially considering the remote location I would expect leave them bored and troublesome (after all isn't that what many youths do when left without entertainment?).
Our room had the most splendid vew of the Morar Estuary and the beaches and was, although plain, respectfully decorated to a standard expected for the reasonable room rates.
The public bar (which appeared full of life during our stay) was like taking a walk back in time. The trendy modern bars favoured by many hotels do not even begin to compare to the warmth of the Morar Bar.
The restaurant was fantastic! The food was unbelievable, the staff were extremenly polite, efficient and friendly. They bent over backwards to make our meal pleasant. They quite happy to offer us advice on what to see when asked and their recommendations were spot on.
Morar Hotel was a long way for us to go for just one weekend. But every second there was worth it, including the two daughters coming out to wave us goodbbye when we left. The hotel and staff are truely admirable. Next time we want to celebrate a special occasion (or just have a dirty weekend away) the first place we will enquire is The Morar Hotel!
