Top Local Tips for Kinlochleven
Local bus service There is an excellent local bus service running from the bus station at Fort William. This is a good way to travel the area as the roads are quite narrow and can be a bit hairy for a car driver who is not used to them. These are not buses as you may think, but more like coaches and very comfotable and clean. You get brilliant views of the scenery from the buses. The buses are always on time. We would especially recomment the journey's to Oban and Inverness.
Arnamurchan Take the corran Ferry £5.20 across to ardgour and have a drive round ardnamurchan, stunning scenery even in the rain. Fort William nearby (though distinct lack of places to eat if you have a dog) The clachaig Inn at Glencoe worth a visit Great food and lkovely atmosphere and views. And though we didnt go, there is a seafood restaurant and shop about 4 miles from McDonald Hotel on the north banks of the loch which is highly reccommended. The hotel is also near the west Highland way for walkers
weather does not matter. The MacDonald Hotel is the last hotel on the west Highland way but one can be based there for a few days and do some great day walks. If it rains there is an efficent drying room but, if you want to stay indoors there is the ice Factor where one can spend a day indoor climbing, bouldering or ice climbing. . In the area there is canoeing, fishing and just plain wandering in exquisite scenery watching some marvelous bird life. In fact there is something for all lovers of the outdoors. One can camp, stay in a cabin or in one of the hotel rooms depending on your budget. No matter which you choose, you can have all your meals in the hotel at very reasonable prices
