This hotel is OK - the lounge seems to have been refurbished quite recently and has good views over the bay. The rooms are reasonable if unremarkable although our supposedly non-smoking room smelled very strongly of smoke. They replaced the bed covers and left air freshener when we complained but it didnt help much. With one exception, the staff were pretty useless so dont expect too much. They are not actually rude, but aren't particularly helpful either. We generally had to explain what we wanted two or three times before they got the hint. The main problem with this hotel is that it seems to be almost completely geared towards coach parties of elderly people. This means that its a bit like a holiday camp, down to the camp-bed style bunks with brown wollen blankets and canteen-like restaurant. We were scared to walk about the place at night in case we ran across a tombola or old-time tea dance. On evenings, the canteen is crowded with the coach party guests and dinner seems to be served in sittings! We didnt actually eat dinner there (there was an OK restaurant in Tobermory) but breakfast was a desultry affair - generally low quality and served by completely disinterested staff who were less than efficient at clearing tables or offering people tea and toast (we never got either on the two days we stayed there). Also, the staff kept inexplicably trying to top up people's cups of tea with coffee. If you are over 80 and want to recapture the spirit of a 50's holiday camp or a boarding school, you'll probably enjoy this hotel. Otherwise, you might want to look elsewhere.
