Top Local Tips for Isle Of Mull
no strip malls there's a tiny village nearby with a good pub, no gas stations; a town an hour's drive away. Don't drive to Dervaig with an empty petrol tank.
Pub in Dervaig good but get a real table! There's just one pub in Dervaig, about 5 minutes from the Druimnacroish. The food is very good there but try to eat in the main restaurant area, it feels better than in the "public bar" which has a large sports screen, etc. Other restaurants a little further away. As Mull is quite big with slow roads, this will be true of pretty well everywhere you could stay except actually in Tobermory. Tobermory isn't far away anyway (7 miles), so there's plenty of choice.
Dervaig: a great place to stay if you're in the mood for wildlife excursions Take a Discover Mull tour, a truly fantastic way to spend a day at one with nature-with great guides and lots of refreshments! It is also very convenient to go one if you are staying in Dervaig. Additionally, Sea Life Surveys whale watching toursare amazing, and the seven hour one is the best of the lot, if you are willing to pay for it. But I assure you, it is well worth the money for near-guarenteed sightings of, at the very least seals and porpoises, though I saw minke whales, basking sharks and sunfish as well! Dolphins are seen regularly too and orcas are not entirely uncommon, whilst the excellent guides will point out to you all the different seabirds there are. The tours are by no means crowded, there were only around ten on mine, and an excursion to islands such as Muck and the Treshnish Isles (the destination is keept as a surprise) are included for lunch. In the summer, you might even be joined by the puffins while you eat! The boats are just the right size: small, but not t.
