Clean as a Whistle.
from Elgin_DomDouble-Booking Fiasco!
from A TripAdvisor MemberAlthough the hotel had apparently been aware of the double-booking for five days, they made no effort to contact us to let us know what had happened. After asking to speak to the manager, we were offered an alternative hotel in an entirely unsuitable location. After much discussion, the manager eventually offered to book us into a neighbouring hotel; unfortunately, they managed to mix up that booking as well. Luckily, the staff at this alternative hotel - the Marriott - were extremely helpful and booked us in promptly.
If you are planning to stay at the Menzies, my advice would be to phone ahead to make sure that they haven't allocated your rooms to someone else. All in all, a severe disappointment, although we certainly didn't let it spoil our weekend break.
Avoid!!
from HST37Well appointed hotel, pleasant stay
from IanRockyRoadThe rooms are well appointed with all conceivable facilities although the mini bar was not stocked and required a deposit of £50 and, I suspect, like most people we could not be bothered. The bed was excellent as was the shower. Only one set of soaps etc. for a couple seemed to be slighly on the parsimonious side. Internet access and pay TV were also towards the dearer end of the spectrum.
The restaurant was of a good standard for an hotel and all three of us enjoyed our dinner with attentive but discrete service. The wine list was generally of a breathtaking nature as regards price.
At £64 for a double on a Sunday night this was a good deal. By the time we had entertained our daughter to dinner and had had two breakfasts (14.95 each)our total bill was £200.
Lovely hotel, nice facilities and friendly staff (Loved the pool and the spa!!)
from A TripAdvisor MemberWe were able to find the hotel ok, just head for the flyover along Argyle st. We arrived about half one and we were checked in straight away and our room was ready even though we had arrived before the 2.00pm check in. The room itself was great and the bed was huge and really comfortable. The room had everything that you would need and was really clean. the quadrega entertainment system was great however at £6.99 i felt the movies were a little expensive.
After we got settled and unpacked we done a bit of shopping in the St Enoch centre (10 minute walk) and headed back the hotel to go for a swim. The pool itself was a little samller than it looked in the photos but it was lovely. The spa was class and we used the sauna and steam room as well. I did use the gym once but decided to stop pretty quickly as i was over for a break and i am really unfit!! The gym was kitted out with separate tvs for each piece of equipment(running machine, cycle machine etc)which was great.
We decided to have a couple of drinks (which were always nice and cool as there is an ice machine in every corridor) and get a good night sleep. the rooms are virtually soundproof as our room on the second floor was beside the generators on the roof of the pool but you could only hear them if you were to open the window. we both got a good night sleep.
The next day i went for breakfast and my girlfriend lay on in bed as she wasnt hungry. I had booked a deal for bed and breakfast and on arrival was told i had to pay. i was a bit alrmed as in my booking was told this would be included and there was no way i was going to pay over a tenner for my breakfast so i went to reception to investigate. This matter was resolved quickly as i had booked with a active hotel but since cancelled and booked it directly with menzies but active hotels had not sent in my cancellation so they were under the impression i hasd double booked. Anyway i got down to my breakfast which was beautiful and all you can eat.
On our last day we were able to check out at 12 and as our train wasnt until 4.30pm they were more than happy to look after our luggage as we done a bit more shopping
I paid around £130 for 2 nights (inc breakfast) which i found to be excellent value. The room was great, the staff were great, the facilities were great and i would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone thinking of going to glasgow.
All in all a fabulous hotel and i will definitely stay here again when i come back to Glasgow.
Thank you trip advisor i could have ended up in a grubby dive!

Brilliant hotel
from chuckyFolkestoneGreat Value, Excellent Service
from HellieCopterIt's easy to find and has secure (valet!) parking, rare for a city centre hotel.
Reception and foyer are spacious and welcoming and the reception staff were efficient, very very friendly, knowledgable and totally accomodating.
Our room was on the 5th floor with great views over to the city. Twin beds were comfortable and the room although not overly spacious was clean and welcoming. Bathroom excellent.
Hotel spa facilities are very good and open for very convenient hours (7am-10pm).
The hotel is an easy 10 minute walk from the city centre (if you walk slowly, only 5 minutes if you're a bit quicker!) and it's nice to have a little distance away from the hustle and bustle of the Glasgow nightlife!
You're close to Central Station, Princes Square (excellent eating, Barca Cava and Tapas bar highly recommended!) and Buchanan Street shops. A little further away is the bars and clubs, but again, all within easy walking distance or a short taxi ride for girls in silly high heels!
Taxis are very reasonable and all the drivers we had were very friendly and happy to impart local knowledge. Taxis can be ordered by the concierge and arrive within minutes, even at peak times.
I booked through laterooms and got a very reasonable price for two nights. A best-price guarantee is offered through the Menzies website - price matching and and additional 10% discount...look there for details.
In summary, a fantastic hotel, excellent facilities for the price and a great base for exploring the city. I'll definitely stay there again next time I visit Glasgow, which will be soon!
Quality hotel but not great surroundings
from A TripAdvisor MemberThe interior of the hotel is modern, bright and clean. The staff are efficient and friendly and the concierge was brilliant. The bar seemed clinical rather than relaxing and comfortable but again the staff were good.
Our room was as expected in a hotel of this standard with a large, comfortable bed. The view from the room was not picturesque but then we weren't expecting mountains and waterfalls within the city centre.
We didn't use the spa but it looked very nice although was viewable from the reception and from the front of the hotel as you entered.
The buffet style breakfast was very good with lots of choice and plenty of hot food.
We would stay here again.
Odd location, but lovely all the same
from YorkshireUKtravellerThe bar is a bit small and not exactly cosy, being open and right next to reception, but service is friendly. Bar snacks are good but can take a while when they are busy.
Service at breakfast used to be excellent on earlier visits, but on the last few times I went, I don't think they had enough staff on, so coffee and toast never arrived promptly and the hot breakfast kept running out of items.
Would return again though.
great rooms
from macsuperflyThe hotel is centrally located in Glasgow a 10 min walk from the city centre or take a cab , the staff will book them for you. Be warned on Fridays & Saturdays book at least an hour in advance as there is always a wait for a cab.
The staff were excellent very helpful and welcoming.
My only minor criticism would be that there is not a lot of parking at the hotel , so if you need to check in early if you wanta parking space. Also the bar lacked atmosphere mostly due to its design as it feels like part of the foyer.
Top Local Tips for Glasgow
Glasgow is Scottland - wonderful people Although Edinburgh seems to be the main tourist attraction, we found Glasgow a wonderful place to visit if you want to see real Scottland. Also, people in Glasgow seem to be so caring for their tourists that we were really surprised, although we come for a country which is basically touristic (Greece). We were shown around by strangers, were offered help, were given presents. We loved the place!!
Don't miss the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum The chap I was sitting next to on the plane from London to Glasgow strongly recommended we visit the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, and we were SO glad we took his advice - it was absolutely fantastic. The exhibits are wonderful, and the architecture is beautiful. There's so much to see that we ran out of time - we'll definitely go back.
enjoy your food spend that little bit more than you normally would and enjoy your food
