Historical Traveller Reviews of Kelvingrove Hotel

I stayed at this hotel with my boyfriend for a special weekend away. I was pleasantly surprised, the hotel was just beautiful, clean, bright and comfortable. The staff were very kind and helpful. The hotel is the perfect place to spend a romantic weekend, it's near to some lovely restaurants and just a short walk to the city centre. I would recommend this lovely place to all my friends and family.

A delightful surprise.

My girlfriend had to fly out of Glasgow early in the morning and so I booked a night at the Kelvingrove hotel. The room was of a good size and tastefully decorated, the bed was comfortable, and the staff were friendly and, because of the need to get to the airport extra early, happy to serve us breakfast early. I now recommend the Kelvingrove to anybody as it greatly exceeded my expectations.

good but small.....

from A TripAdvisor Member
My husband and I stayed there for 2 nights. we found the rooms very small but neat.If u r travelling with big bags and 2 ppl are there, then, forget it. Except for the lack of space, i find it decent but ntohing exceptional abt it.

Good location for sightseeing

I didn't feel welcomed when I checked into this hotel. It took a long time for the person at the front desk to find my reservation. She finally showed me to my room but wasn't really helpful. The room was small, bath was tiny but both were clean and fine for one night. The hotel was quiet and well situated, only steps from the bus stop for the sightseeing bus. The breakfast room is very nice and a substantial breakfast is served.

I needed to book accommodation for a group of friends who were coming over from Northern Ireland for a concert at the SSCC in Glasgow and needed to find a conveniently located hotel.

After browsing reviews on Trip advisor I decided on the Kelvingrove Hotel as the reviews posted were good and it was within walking distance of the concert venue.

My friends could not have been happier with the hotel I'd picked for them, stating that the staff were very friendly and that the rooms were well appointed and spotless---- in fact a real home from home.

So much so they've re-booked for a Christmas shopping trip in December.

Worth all the acclaim!

I booked this hotel on the strength of the recommendations here, and was not disappointed. The rooms are clean and comfortable, service is outstanding, and the atmosphere welcoming and warm. A real mix of clientele, professional and tourists, all nationalities. Breakfast service was very good, with a wide menu choice available.

The hotel is on a main road, so be prepared for some traffic noise, but the double glazing is efficient. You are well placed for the University (10 minutes) and the city centre (15 minutes walk or a short bus ride). Loads of places nearby to eat in the evening.

The management take a real interest in each client and will go out of their way to help make your visit to Glasgow a success!

fantastic service - ideal for city break

from A TripAdvisor Member
My Uncle and four cousins have been raving about the Kelvingrove since staying there a couple of weeks ago. I had been told about the hotel by a colleague who thought that it would ideal for my visting US relatives.

I was not proved wrong - although the hotel was busy (this place is always busy apparently!) the service from the staff could not have been of a higher standard. The lady owners (mother and daughter duo Val and Mandy) were only to happy to assisting my relatives in selecting places to eat, ordering cabs and planning day trips to Arran and Inverness. Both Twin rooms were spotless and really nicely equipped and the beds were apparently supremely comfortable - the breakfasts were excellent too!

This hotel sits in a great location near the famous Kelvingrove art gallery and public park and near to the city centre and West End and close to a variety of bars and places to eat.

I would not hesitate in recommending the Kelvingrove to any city traveller - service like this is rare and my party was made to feel relaxed and totally at home. Well done the Kelvingrove!

Fantastic city centre hotel - spotless and very friendly

Myself and my wife have just returned from a fantastic trip to Scotland - one of the high spots was our three night stay in Glasgow and in the Kelvingrove Hotel. We were met by the owners (mother and daughter team, Valerie and Mandy) who were incredibly helpful and kind, who showed us to our spotless room and imparted useful advice on local sites of interest and recommended bars and a number of really excellent restaurants.

The service that we received from all of the staff was great, our rooms were spotless, the beds extremely comfortable (the powershowers were great as well!) and the delicious breakfast really set us up for the day.

During our stay we found out from other guests that they all had nothing but positive things to say about the hotel and the staff. We greatly enjoyed our trip to Glasgow and the hospitality we received at this hotel was a major factor.

I would not hesitate in recommending the Kelvingrove.

Loved the Kelvingrove and the staff!

We recently stayed at the Kelvingrove during our wedding and honeymoon trip. The rooms were excellent, the breakfasts were superb, and I just can't say enough about the staff. They were extremely helpful and often went out of their way to make our stay better. Although it was a bit of a walk to the shopping area, the tour bus stopped right outside the hotel and it was very conveniently located for sightseeing. The hotel was beautifully tended and again, the staff very friendly and helpful. If I ever return to Glasgow, I will definitely stay at the Kelvingrove!

Perfect Place to Begin our Holiday

from A TripAdvisor Member
We just returned from a family vacation to Britain. I had found
Kelvingrove on this site and was impressed with the reviews. The management
was extremely helpful while booking and as we were travelling with our
10 yr old son, we needed a "family room". The room was a great size and
was extremely comfortably with room to spread out. The breakfast room was bright and airy and I looked forward to that delicious breakfast to start the day.
The location is superb for walking to local sights with some excellent restaurants within a 3 block radius. We would definately recommend this hotel to anyone and will return there on our next visit. As with so many hotels being
expensive, the Kelvingrove is a gem in a reasonable price range and the owners know what they are doing.
Lovely spot!!

Top Local Tips for Glasgow

Great pub & restaurant nearby this hotel If you decide to stay in this area the Ben Nevis pub is great if you like a wee dram very atmospheric with an open fire and a very wide selection of Whisky. The Thai restaurant just down the road from this pub is excellent too.

The horseshoe Bar Great Karoke just off suacihall Street, all city centre bars are open until midnight, suburbs open to 1am fridays and saturdays.

Hop-on hop-off bus Take the red bus around the city, and get on and off as you wish. Excellent way to see a lot in a short time. The guides were knowledgeable and easy to hear.
