Excellent Location

from janenmike
We Stayed at this hotel as part of a flight package. I did a bit of reading about the hotel before booking and took the advise of a previous visitor to this site and book for room 542. We were very pleased with this room as I believe it provides the only room in the hotel with a view. The room was clean, the bathroom was clean, and for our purposes of mainly sightseeing it fit our purposes very well. The breakfast provided by the hotel was plentyful and just what we needed to begin our days. We were able to walk everywhere we needed to go from this location. We found the front desk staff to be very helpful. We would definitely stay here again.

Excellent value for money. One-star rating must be wrong.

Stayed 3 nights with some friends for a long weekend and found this hotel to be excellent value for money. Location is very good for exploring the city. It’s located next to the river Clyde with St. Enoch shopping centre just around the corner. City centre, Buchanan street, Central Station, restaurant area, George square, Museum of modern art and the Barras market are all in easy walking distance. Staff where polite and efficient and the rooms and bathroom where nice and clean. So was the rest of the hotel. TV with the usual channels and everything was in working order. No bathtub, but a good size shower.

If you are planning to stay in at the hotel a lot, you would probably like a few more facilities. But, if you like me, just want a base for exploring the city and a decent bed to sleep in, this certainly fits the bill. Breakfast was a rather sad story, but there are several good places serving breakfast in close proximity.

Traffic and live music from the pubs across the street can be a bit noisy before closing time, so if you want to go to bed early you should ask for a room on one of the upper floors facing away from the main street.

The one-star rating for this hotel must be wrong. It is most certainly a three-star, and I will probably stay there again on my next visit.

well presented hotel

Branded as an Express or 'No Frills' Hotel, this Holiday Inn serves its purpose well. It's well located close to the River in a reasonably quiet area, a 10-15 min walk to Glasgow Central rail station, and 5 mins walk to most of Glasgow's excellent shopping.

Rooms are simply decorated, but a good size and clean. 2 visits here in 2002 and I did have soft beds both times, but no dust or scratching is always a good sign. Breakfast is included, help yourself continental style and it's a good healthy way to kick off your day.

Glasgow has developed into a nice place to visit over the past decade or so, and if you're reading this with a thought to stopover I heartily recommend you spend at least a full day here, and take an open top bus tour to see the best of the City.

Nice hotel, well located and good value.

Great value, great for shopping

Stayed here for one night @ £50 for work. Rooms every clean and good bathroom with lovely shower. Usual selection of TV channels for holiday inn. if this hotel fits your budget then dont hesitate to stay here. buffet continental breakfast will set you up nicely for the day. cooked breakfast not available though. great location for walking to the city centre. Also, if you want a chinese go to Mings, and if you want a pub, go to Waxy O'Connors. Great.

Good for the money

We were home for Christmas and booked this well in advance so got a great rate of GBP38.00 per night (non-refundable)which included the buffet continental breakfast. We ended up with Room 542 & I suggest that anyone staying here asks for this room - it's the only one with a full height window, overlooking the river.

The facilities are basic but that's what you expect. It was always clean. The biggest problem we had is that the reception area doubles as a bar and so stinks of ciggarette smoke - role on March I say.

There was also the fact that our stuff had been opened / moved about by those cleaning the room. Apparently it's an outside firm and not employed direct by the hotel. The staff were sympathetic when we spoke to them about it but we received no feedback from them.

In summary, the hotel is great if you know what to expect (ie clean, basic standard) and was great as a base for getting out an about in Glasgow.

Perfectly standard

My wife and I arrived here as last minute refugees fleeing a disastrous experiment with a different hotel. The Holiday Inn therefore came as an extremely welcome return to normality.

The rooms were perfectly clean, the view from the room was great, and the staff were both efficient and helpful. The only downside was the breakfast, which was cold and of dubious freshness.

interesting

an ok hotel,it was a bit noisy outside ,but what do you expect in a city centre?
would not hesitate to stay in the future

remember to get a parking voucher at reception

Fair

from Tingeling
Stayed here 3 nights in February. Was a bit worried after reading some of the reviews/tips about the hotel, but since this was one of the few that offered up to 4 persons in the room, we decided to give it a chance.

Location fine, close to most things, never worried. Friendly greeted, but service perhaps a bit slow. Brakfast included : Inviting and varied (a nice surprise).

Room : Had a room with ordinary bed and sofabed. Ordinary bed fine, but sofa WAY BELOW any standard even in a budgethotel like this. Make sure you get a room with a new sofa if someone in your company has to sleep on one.

All in all : Good choice if you're on a budget.

Great Location - Holiday Inn Express Riverside, Glasgow

from Digglegate
The HI Express Riverside is great deal for those wanting comfort at a budget price. Clean rooms, comfortable beds but for those wanting to take a bath forget it, en suite shower only! Excellent serve yourself buffet breakfast included in the price of the room. Location is up and coming and only a few minutes stroll into the centre of the city. Note! The room I occupied had two defective window frames which according to the notice stuck on the window had been like that since July 2004. Over 3 months later still not fixed. Holiday Inn get your act together, it may be budget price, but surely you can get the windows fixed.

Top Local Tips for Glasgow

Glasgow's greatest attractions Glasgow is famous because of its modernist arquitecture - it's the hometown of famous architech and designer Charles Rennie Mackintosh. You must visit the School of Art and the Mackintosh house at the University. There you will also find the Hunterian Museum and the Hunterian Art Gallery (you have access to the Mackintosh house from inside the Gallery). The main University building itself is worth the visit. The Tower is the highest point in Glasgow and you can climb it for a small fee between May and October. Very close to it is the Kelvingrove Museum, the most visited museum in the UK, bar London. In the city centre, you'll find George square and the curious St Mungo's cathedral. Shopping sprees are a must in Glasgow, along Buchanan, Sauchihall and Argyle Street. If you have time left after all this, you should visit the Burrell Collection, set at the south of the city. And of course, never forget the Science Centre and the famous Armadillo!

attractions there are none

BIG Shopping Glasgow is very good if you want a cheaper hotel than Edinburgh. Its only 1 hour away and the trains are every 30 min as far as I remember. Glasgow is full with shops so you are will not be bored if you like spending money around :) The only attraction I can remember now is George Square where we celebrate New year. It was good !!!
