Historical Traveller Reviews of Glasgow Swallow Hotel

Great Location for Football...hotel okay!

from fivealive55
I stayed in the swallow hotel for two nights with my boyfriend when we were over to see a football match. the location was great, about a 5 min walk from the stadium which was great because after the football match there would have been no chance of getting a bus or a taxi!!! before and after the match the hotel was very busy and i felt very sorry for the staff because there was no way enough staff to cope with the crowd.

We arrived approx 9am and expected a few hours wait before we could check in because we wer told check in was at 12 or 1 but we were given our room straight away mind you we had 2 check out very early and our filght wasnt until very late so we spent our time with a tour around the football stadium and a few drinks at the bar.

The food was very good, fry was amazing but when we went down early one morning my boyfriend wanted a coffee and i wanted a coke, when he went to reception to see if this was possible they told us we could have a coffee but not a coke because they werent alowed to serve a drink from the bar until the opening time...for a coke?!?!

One morning for breakfast we wanted to pay because it wasnt included and there was no staff about so we went to reception to pay and she told us we had to pay at the restraunt so we waited for a while for someone at the restraunt and when they finally arrived they told us we had to pay at reception! the girl was obviously new!

The reception area etc was impressive but the corridor and rooms were very dated and smelt like an old peoples home!!! and the lift made lots of noises which made me feel quite uncomfortable!

The leisure facilites were good, lovely pool, sauna etc but the changing rooms are very dated and at the time we stayed the man told us the lockers werent working and ecpected us to leave our belongings in an unlocked locker!!! when i got in there wer keys in the doors and he responded by saying "oh they must have been fixed".

I would stay here again purley for the fact that it was close to the football stadium but if you wish to stay here for any other reasons i would not recommend it-its not very central to the city and not as up to date as i expected.

Great Value for money hotel

I stayed at this hotel with my boyfriend for 2 nights. Our room was exactly as it showed on the internet clean, tidy and presentable with no flaws whatsoever!! We used the swimming pool, sauna and steam room which i also thought were of a high quality for hotel facilities. My only small complaint is the breakfast on the first morning was of a low selection- which took ages to arrive on the hotplates. The 2nd morning however was a million times better and i would definitely recommend this hotel to any1 who wishes to go. I would most certainly be going here in the future.

swallow hotel glasgow

i had the misfortune to stay at this hotel, while attending a funeral in glasgow i pre booked a non smoking room, i arrived late afternoon, checked in i first noticed the carpet outside the room had seen better days there were less holes in a sieve, i opened the room it stunk like a tobaconists, i switched the lights on and found they were already on,after feeling my way around i had to quickly shower and change to meet friends ,so i wasnt able to see how bad it was till next morning, once again i had to leave early to attend the funeral which didnt give me any time to complain, later when i arrived back i noticed the mould on the walls, paper peeling from the walls and the curtains falling off the rails. when i tried to complain to the receptionists they showd a complete lack of interest, saying i should write to the head office, it really is a dump

not a great stay

I stayed in this hotel in Jan 2006 while in Glasgow for business. The room allocated was a fair size but the lighting was dark and gloomy and the bedside lamps seemed to have a delay before they came on - which made me question their safety.
The bathroom water had what we would call a 'foosty' smell about it - didn't think it was safe to drink!

I ordered room service for my evening meal - it was OK but items were missing and it was on the cool side, food came up uncovered too. The range of food was not great either.

The door on my room had very little to hold the lock in place and as I was on my own in the city overnight I didn't feel that secure. There was a chain on the door which did help.

I ordered breakfast for 7.45- 8 slot - it didn't arrive - I phoned down at 8.10 to be told it was on it's way - at 8.25 it arrived which gave me about 5 minutes to eat it before I left for my business meeting. There were items missing again - ie no continental basket of bread and rolls but a nice dish of butter with nothing to put it on. The fruit juice had also been spilled all over the tray.

Good points - the staff were friendly, particularly the receptionist at check in and check out.

Loved the Stay

I read the review on this Hotel before I stayed Hey what a surprize my room was good modern furniture clean, you can see they are working on corridors, I attended a Private Dinner, the Function Room was Fab food was first class, Breakfast great choice, Dinner on 3nd night in Restaurant - Food was super, I enjoyed the Leisure Club pool and spa areas so clean, staff friendly I can say the Hotel is a great inside out side needs a facelift, but I can say I WILL BE BACK - Handy for Football and Business

Low cultural experience

from sombochris
I stayed here recently as it was the official accomodation for a National sporting competition. This would not have been my personal choice of hotel, but I was prepared to give it a go. Having arrived late in the afternoon, after the competition I had a few simple questions I needed anwered. One was where is the official presentation. The receptionist (visibly under a lot of presure) dealt with me in about 10 seconds, and informed me they would call my room with details of the presentation. This never happened. The place is ideal if you are a drunken football fan, however if your not it's in need of a radical makeover.

The two barmen were slaughtered that evening, obviously severly understaffed.
These guy' were excellent and deserve much better than this place.
The presentation meal was terrible and the service aweful.
My experience at this hotel prompted me to join trip advisor.

Don't go there, unless you have to!!!

Not bad at all....

from DancinDi
I must admit I was mildly concerned about staying here after reading the reviews however I was pleasantly surprised upon arrival. The staff were extremely helpful and always pleasant and the hotel in itself was fine, maybe a little overhaul needed as it looked a little tired. Our room was a double non smoking as requested. It was lovely and the bathroom was fine. Maids were friendly and the bed was sooo comfy! The breakfast was to die for and the evening meal was very tasty - my only concern was with the bar - a small glass of white wine was £3.50... but it was a hotel bar and you can't expect much else really. But all in all, no complaints.

Mouldy bathroom

from A TripAdvisor Member
We chose this hotel because the swallow name is normally regarded as a quality brand.
The family room we were allocated was not of generous proportions but was clean and well decorated, but the bathroom was quite disgusting.
The smell from the mouldy shower curtain greeted us as soon as we opened the door and the once white bath sealant had been colonised by a thick black mould along its entire length and was starting to creep up the grout between the tiles.
The reception, leisure suite, bar and dining room are all very pleasant and the staff are very helpful but drinks are a liitle expensive at almost eight pounds for a coke. a beer and smallish glass of wine.
I would stay again but i would ask to see the bathroom first.
