Historical Traveller Reviews of Ben Nevis & Leisure Club Hotel
Excellent for the Dog Lovers
What an ideal hotel for families and dogs - sp welcoming and lots of space to move about in. Very clean and tidy and great food with very good value for money and no problems with kids mucky boots ! thanks
On the web site - the hotel looked wonderful with its on site leisure facilities. the reception area and the pool were great. But go up the tartan carpet to your room - and everything changes! The room we were allocated had not been modernised since the 60s. I wish i had taken a photo to show you how bad it was. The headboard and the chair in the room were made from "letherette" Need I say more. the room overlooked the kitchens - whose extractor was right outside the window. So we couldn't even open the window due to the smell / noise. Then we go into the bathroom - all the fittings are from the 60s and worn. The towel rail was so mangled - it could'nt even hold a single towel and the shower. well if you were less that 5 foot - then it would be fine - but the hight adjustment had broken - for some time by the look of it! I Complained - but they were not interested in assisting.
One thing which i did observe. The hotel specialises in foreighn coach parties. to such an extent that if you want to eat in the hotel at a reasonable time - you cant as the restaurant is taken over by these parties.
£85 b&b - Wish I had stayed at a travellodge and paid a fraction of the price!
Step back in time ...
The hotel looked lovely on the website I saw and it seemed to have good facilities but it was a different story in reality. The hotel is divided into two sections and we were staying in the old and dated section. The corridors smelled like smoke - that awful smell of burnt which lingers - this was not very encouraging. The room itself was at its most basic. The bathroom however, was horrible. Far from the place feeling grubby, the bathroom had that public toilet feel about it. Even the most basic hotels I have stayed in have had rolls of toilet paper, not that greaseproof paper kind where you pull individual sheets out of the dispenser which we found in this hotel bathroom. The toilet smelled like, well, sewage and while we were supposed to be staying for 2 nights, a quick inspection of the place promtped us to cancel the second night. We were going to have dinner in the restaurant (our anniversary meal, I might add), but there was little in the way of vegetarian food and the whole atmosphere was just lack lustre. The fake glazed breads in the middle of the table didn't do the place any favours. My partner asked for a coke to drink and was asked if he wanted a can (in the restaurant!!!) we decided to eat in town instead. Breakfast the next morning was an experience. Apart from the cereal, everything felt like it had been left sitting out for quite a while and the apple juice (which I had my partner taste) was watered down!! A very disappointing experience. I would not recommend this hotel.

I was lucky to have been offered a stay via my work in the Ben Nevis. Upon arrival the hotel looked a bit worn despite just having a bit if a face lift.
The reception and lounge area were very nice with a nice bar just off from the lounge.
However when we went upstairs to our room, the corridoors reminded us of halls of residence. Tired carpets and paint and internal doors for room doors.
The room itself was ok. Large bed but very old bathroom
Dinner was served in a large "resturant" with Tartan carpet. There was no atmosphere at all. The meal was rushed. So much that we finished our 3 course meal in 45 minutes!
Very poor choice of food with little or no presentation. Veggie choice is a disgrace.
Leisure Centre was the best part of the hotel. If only they could put up a swimming lane as there was just a few to many kids jumping in all areas of the pool.
I was glad my company paid for may stay as if I had paid the going rate I would have been very, very dissapointed.
t be put off!
This hotel has changed its name to the Ben Nevis Hotel & Leisure Club and is part of the Strathmore Hotels Group. I spent a night there last week after a day's skiing in the area and the staff, food and leisure facilities were excellent. It was let down by the room which badly needs redecorated, but this seems to be a common compliant for this hotel. But don't be put off by one bad review, as I nearly was.

Myself and my friends stayed at this hotel in December 2005 and I would just like to say what a fantastic hotel, I read the review regarding it being classed as a brothel, everyone is entitled to their own opinons but I feel that this is more fabricated than the truth, the staff certainly did not offer any one of my party extras and they could not have been more helpful, the rooms were extremely clean although dated but it was well worth the money. The leisure club was also a very nice place the cleanliness of this was excellant and one of the cleanest I have ever seen, why would a condom be floating by someone when the staff are so very careful at checking all aspects of the pool.I also saw the staff cleaning nonstop.
I personally feel that this hotel should not have had a write up like the one regarding the brothel as this is unjustified. I will be reccommending this hotel to all of my friends and family.

Coming from New York we loved the sound of Scotland. So we saved for the first and last trip to memorable Fort William. The Milton was so-calledly meant to be a palace...if you call a un-welcoming, tacky, and all round horrible staff and a room that could be best glorified as a drawer never mind a cupboard! this place was like a bad day in iraq it was a bombsite. also, a young blonde member of the staff offered my husband some extra services if he had the 50gbp to spare! Which a can confirm i was bouncing of the ceiling with rage. Lets just say i havent finished my letter to the local police. I also was in the swimming pool for a refreshing dip when a condom suddenly floated past me, i was in completly awe i didnt actually click until i got out of the pool and litteraly poured my self in bleach. Anyway to cut a long story short this hotel is like a legalised brothel. And to be quite frank i think its a disgrace to fort William and in a sour spot... what a view... KWIK FIT!! Avoid at all costs infact dont even bother going anywhere near it just keep on driving!

We arrived at about 1:45 to be told that we could not check in until 2pm, which we found unreal considering there wasn't a sinner in the place and it was only 15 minutes.......anyway, we were given a smelly smoking room after requesting a non smoking one, we changed it for a noisey (so much so we couldn't sleep) on near the road, we asked to book a table for dinner and were told that the restaurant closed at 7:15pm because there was a function on...how poor!! to inconvenience your guests like that?? The room was old and shabby the telephone didn't work, the toilet roll was like tracing paper and we were lucky not to get injuries...BE WARNED bring your own!! The leisure centre was ok but didn't make up for the disappointment, we would stay here again if we were paid, if you are unfortunate enough to stay there the number 4 restaurant in the high st (beside Tourist office) is very nice and we were glad we ate there in the end...breakfast the next morning was mediocre and reheated everything....very tackey and cheap like the whole Hotel.....a lick of paint and some new carpets and curtains wouldn't go a miss.....STAY SOMEWHERE ELSE!! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
Quite the worst hotel I have stayed in for many years
Over the years, I have stayed at many hotels across the UK and find it hard to remember a stay as disappointing as this.
From check-in (they had no record of me although I had a record of the booking) to dinner (poorly cooked and chef clearly over keen on balsamic vinegar) to breakfast (tinned mandarin oranges and soggy, cold toast) my stay was decidedly unpleasant.
This hotel has clearly seen better days with faded and threadbare carpets and furnishings. There is an all-pervading smell of stale food.
I did not use the leisure facilities so cannot comment on them. However, from the experience I did have, there is absolutely nothing about this hotel that I could recommend.
By the way, this is the first time that I have ever written a review such is my keeness to deter others from making the same mistake!

From the moment we entered the hotel the staff were welcomming and friendly, the rooms were clean, fresh but slightly dated, but the again ur not paying 4 star prices. Our meals were of good quality and couldn,t be faulted, but i have to give a glowing report to the bar staff who went out there way to make our stay so enjoyable and going that extra mile for the customer, they were little gems
