Very professional and friendly from the outset. Rooms very comfortable and were given the "personal" touch. After my stay when I realised I had left an item of clothing behind they promptly found it and forwarded it to my home address. Excellent all round and as for the food who needs to go out for a meal.
Top class and will use this facility again.

Run of the mill

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed here for a weekend, and I have no complaints as such apart from its a run of the mill hotel catering mostly to businessman requirements.
Ordinary is the word I would use. Smallish rooms with a few added extras to warrant its 4 star award but not much else. Very average hotel.

Great Hotel (especially if you have a car) and Restaurant.

My wife and I stayed for a 2 night weekend break.
The Hotel was busy due to the Six Nations Rugby and to be honest it wasn't our first choice due to not being right in the centre of Edinburgh, however the service was excellent and I definately recommend this Hotel and would stay there again. The only negative was that our room was next to the lifts so could get a bit noisy as people walked by.

It is about a ten minute walk to the closest end of Princes Street or about £5 for a taxi to the centre, a main selling point of the Hotel is that it has its own car park so an ideal place for anyone wanting a base close to the city centre but without parking problems.

The quality in the Hotel could not be faulted, everything was clean, staff very friendly (especially Lala in the restaurant). We had an evening meal in the Hotel restaurant which I can highly recommend, the food was fantastic and I cannot understand why the restaurant was so quiet (only about 5 tables occupied)it should really be better promoted by the Hotel Management.

I was apart of the students who preformed in Scotland and stayed at Menzies

I was apart of the band who played in the easter parade. My mother and I stayed in room 210 and we just loved it. I can still remember the cold drafts when you first walk in but when you get settled down you feel quiet warm. The service was great and the food was, well I'm not quiet used of the food in Scotland, I'm used to American food. But the food was great at Menzies .I got to try Haggis.. um I'm not planning to try it again. We toured alot and I remembered the short walk down to Princes street to "fetch" the paper. I loved the hotel, i recommend it to anybody .For my 8th grade graduation, i plan to go back my mother and I, and we're going to spend it with Menzies Hotel.

-Thanks for everything Menzies

Good Value Hotel

from SLEMONS
Spent three nights at Menzies Hotel, Edinburgh. Location very good, about 15 minutes walk into Princes Street. Free parking at hotel, which was a bonus due to close location to the city. Room was clean and spacious. Only problem was it was on the 3rd floor and after being woken up at six each morning, due to noise above us, we discovered the laundary room on the next floor. Breakfast was excellent, lots to choose from and did not have to wait to to seated. On the first night we had a meal in the bar which was good. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Would definately stay again but not on the 3rd floor !

Impressed - better than I was expecting

from CaliCali
Booked this hotel last minute through the 'easy' orange folks and got a great rate including breakfast.

Hotel was much bigger and nicer than expected. We were initially given a roadside room which due to the rain and thanks to the reviews on here I was worried would be too noisy - so we asked to be moved to a room on the other side - thought there might be a problem as it was such a low rate, but not, they moved us without a fuss and the new room was very quiet.

Room was clean and comfortable, nice linen, modern furniture, bathroom was fine and they had tea and coffee making facilities (with big mugs).

Breakfast was plentiful with lots of choice, we didn't have to wait at all.

Overall I was very pleasantly suprised by this hotel and would definitely stay again.

Good value but disappointed by early-morning noise!

We stayed at this hotel for a two-night leisure break in early October. The location is nice, but make sure you request a room on the attractive riverside and not the roadside of the hotel.

We were unlucky enough to have a roadside room. The hotel is not air-conditioned and gets very warm. Plus, the room we had was quite small, meaning we had to leave the window open overnight. The general traffic noise was not tooooo bad, but we were awoken at 7.40am the first morning by what we assumed was a coach dropping off at the lobby beneath but which transpired to be some kind of lorry carrying an access platform or a crane-type thing. Whatever it was, it was certainly very noisy (sound of an engine running nearby constantly) and the noise had not ceased by the time we left to explore the city later that morning. Having been woken up by this (after getting up at 4am for a 6.45am flight from Bristol), we could not get back to sleep all morning thanks to the incessant rumble from just outside.

We notified reception and were told that it would be there all day and, upon requesting a room change, were told none were available. It transpired that this lorry-borne mechanical arm was tending to the illuminated sign at the side of the hotel. The receptionist told us that the lorry should not have been there before 10am.

We returned later that day to a complimentary bottle of white wine and a personal apology from the hotel manager.

All in all, pretty good value and otherwise pleasing, although a 20/25-minute walk into the very centre of the city. Spoiled somewhat by the noise.

Disappointing 4* (?) hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
Stayed here with my husband for one night and was disappointed the hotel did not live up to the reviews posted earlier on your website. We had a decidedly tired and not particularly clean room, which was meant to have a double bed but in fact two uncomfortable single beds had been shoved together. Decided to try the 3 course meal in the brasserie, then quickly realised why so many people were leaving in taxis to go out for dinner. Waited 35 minutes to be shown to a table when there were only two tables occupied! Food was mediocre for a four star hotel. Don't think we shall be returning.

Much better than expected

from member040
Stayed in this hotel recently for a girls weekend and was surprised at how nice it was. Booked over the internet and got a really good price. Located a short walk from Princes Street, it was convienient for shopping. The reception staff were pleasant and helpful, attending to all our needs. The room was clean and well presented and had a lovely view overlooking the river. We were located close to the reception but did not find it noisy at all. The bar was about to close when we arrived after a night out but the staff agreed to stay behind for us. Our only complaint was that breakfast was expensive, however room service was reasonable. Altogether a brilliant weekend, would definitely recommend this hotel and will return in the future.

Peaceful location

from tabitha67
Large hotel, well situated 5 minutes walk from the West End of Edinburgh. Impressive entrance hall, and good service on reception (we requested a room to the rear of the hotel away from the road).

The hotel benefits from being just of the beaten track, so you are away from the busy traffic of this major city. We had our window open when we stayed, and it was lovely and peaceful.

Our room was of a good size, and clean, and we didn't hear any noise from rooms to the side of us. Breakfast buffet was excellent, and plentiful (my partner recommends the haggis!!).

On the 2nd day of our stay (bank holiday weekend), the breakfast area did get very busy, and some people were waiting for seats in the breakfast area for a considerable time.

Overall, well located hotel for exploring Edinburgh, with the added benefit of having a free car park.

Wonderful stay

from Nilmandra
My boyfriend and I went to Edinburgh for a weekend break and had a wonderful stay at the Belford. It was an e-deal at the hotel's booking website and we got a really good price. I was concerned that we might be allocated a less than desirable room because of the offer but that wasn't the case. We got a room looking right out onto the river, beautiful view. Bathroom is good sized with bath and shower. Selection of toiletries provided. TV has additional sports channels and BBC 24, which some people may find useful. We were too busy out enjoying the city!

The location of the hotel was good. Not far away from the centre (10 mins walk to Princes Street) but in a nice quiet spot. Very nice area by the river (you can talk a nice walk along) and right opposite the modern art gallery too. Haymarket station is closer than the main Waverly train station, if you are walking to/from there. A good selection for breakfast: continental, fruits, yohurt, full English, about 6 different types of juices. Staff is warm and friendly. Hotel looks very new and modern.

I would definitely stay there again.

Excellent food Howies in the Grassmarket area is a lovely restaurant - the set menu is very good value.

View of the city If you have a head for heights you can climb to the top of the 200 ft Scott monument in Princes Street and get some great photos
