Very Impressive
from hrmanagerI would agree that the heating was only on in the morning and the evening but I normally feel too hot in hotels, so was quite grateful for this. We too , like a previous reviewer, had single duvets on our king sized zipped together twin bed, but actually found this to be more comfortable than a king size duvet as it prevented our usual night time tussle over the duvet!
The breakfast was lovely - I reccommend the full scottish breakfast (although it has ruined my so called pre christmas diet) - everything we ordered came quickly and was lovely and hot, the orange juice was freshly squeezed and the coffee flowed at even the rate I expected - continuously.
We eat in the restaurant on 2 of our 4 evenings and, although the food was a little ornate, it was pretty good and the service was lovely. However, I would say that there is nothing on the menu that would interest the average chicken nuggets and chips besotted young child.
My daughter had room service one lunch time and she said it arrived really quickly and was nice food.
The only area where I feel they fell down a little was on not offering to help us with our bags to the room, which I always feel is a welcoming touch, but I wasn't too concerned about that. Oh yes, and a previous writer is right - the water in the (enormous and lovely) bath was a little tinged yellow, but I found there to be plenty of it and it was hot
So, as someone who stays in hotels rather a lot, I am happy to say that I was quite impressed with The Bonham. Maybe the previous writer was right and it depends on what room you have.
I hope any of you who are going to The Bonham enjoy it as much as I did and that, if The Bonham read this, they'll ensure that everyone's room is kept as nicely as mine was when I was there.
Incidentally, Edinburgh is a lovely city!
Disappointing
from A TripAdvisor MemberThe restaurant and lobby / reception were all lovely however our room was small and definatly not what I would class as modern and trendy. It was dusty, damp smelling and there was a large crack in the ceiling. The room was very cold and when I asked about the heating I was informed it is only set for certain times, (However we were given a heater).
However the restaurant served very good food and the location is very handy.
However a most disappointing stay and not a hotel I would recommend to friends and family.
A wonderful experience

from A TripAdvisor MemberI will be sure to recommend this hotel to all my friends and family.
Fantastic service.
from A TripAdvisor MemberThe staff were very friendly, professional, helpful, informative and in general superb, the occasion we attended the hotel for was my Mother's 80th birthday-get together, she was treated like a Queen with the respect she deserves and nothing was too much for the staff.
The food in the restaurant was delicious and I thought reasonably priced for a hotel of that distinction,we were informed that there was car parking at the rear of the hotel. The staff on the front desk made things easy by taking our car keys and carrying out the "chore" for us,also helping our party by bringing in our luggage, all little extras that helped our trip be one to remember for ever.
The manager even made an appearance personally,to wish my mother a happy birthday, which I thought was great as one of the staff informed me he had a very busy, tight schedule that day,I will definitely return and commend this hotel to anyone- A1+.
Wonderful experience.
from A TripAdvisor MemberNot Brilliant
from nickwolfOur first problem was parking, you can only park for 1 hour outside the hotel (except after 6.30pm and Sundays) and since we arrived quite early we had to park some distance from the hotel. This was not really the hotel's fault but it is something to bear in mind if you are arriving early.
The room was OK but no better. As previous posters have reported the cleaning was less than first class. The bed though was excellent, large and comfortable.
If you tried to run a bath the hot tap soon stopped running so there must be a problem with the plumbing and the water had a strange yellow/brown appearance.
The TV did not work but in fairness reception soon sent someone up who said the previous guest must have altered the wiring??
We chose to eat out in the evening so I cannot comment on the dinner service but I hope it was better than breakfast. I can't remember having such a calamitous hotel meal, all we were missing was Basil Fawlty and Manuel (and our breakfast). When I eventually coaxed a breakfast from the kitchen I was missing sausages and haggis but since I can live without either I let it go. My wife was basically offered pretty much everything on the menu until the waitress stumbled across the right combination of ham and poached egg. The food was not at all bad but the service was pitiful.
I am afraid it is very much a case of "must try harder" if this hotel is hoping to maintain anything like a decent reputation.
oh dear
from qaqueenStandards slipping a touch?
from A TripAdvisor MemberThe rooms were as big and comfortable as ever, the decor was great and I didn't notice any problems with the standard of cleaning....but....
Service has gone down hill. Last time I stayed (summer of 2003) I had possibly the best breakfasts I have ever had in a hotel. Great, interesting food brought to you by waiting staff. It was ages since I had had a Finnan Haddie. So I was really looking forward to more, but now it is a buffet, and while the quality was good, the hot food was not as hot as it should be and could I get some toast? Could I hell! I really struggled to get the staff's attention, they seemed to be too busy wandering aimlessly, and in the end I joined someone from another table in a trip to collect my own coffee. When it came to checking out, there were three people in the queue before me, so I thought it will take a few minutes. It took almost 20!
I hope that this was a one off, and I will stay there again but if I had the same experience again I would look elsewhere.
Spectacular Service

Get more out of your dining experience There are so many quality restaurants that we had trouble choosing where to eat. To see more places we had a pregressive dinner every night - cocktails and appetizers at one location, entree at another and on a few nights, even moved on for dessert at a third location. Great way to see more. Loved Fisher's in the city. Fresh fish entrees in a hip restaurant filled with locals.
Aiport Bus Use the no 100 airport bus. £5 return. As quick as a taxi. 25 mins (even in rush hour). Best airport bus service I have come across.
