The only saving grace were the excellent breakfasts. Our room was cramped (I had to move the wardrobe) and bedding and room generally mucky. eg a newspaper on window sill dated 18 August 2007 liberally covered with dead flies! How not to create a good impression? On a lighter note, sign in lift 'anyone caught smoking will be charged a £50 cleaning fee' Ha ha. We'll give Tailors Hall a miss next time we visit Scotland.

Staff friendly,hotel a disgrace

This is without doubt the worst hotel my wife and I have ever used. Basic room, dirty bathroom, fittings loose on wall etc. No plug free for kettle,very noisy at night.
Breakfast stated "Full Scottish Breakfast",since when did we in Scotland have baked beans for breakfast!!,No Haggis,etc,dishes were empty when we arrived,were not filled promptly,had to ask staff repeatedly to fill the dishes but eventually gave up when the eggs,bacon etc failed to materialise.No car parking at hotel,a NCP park at least a mile away to carry luggage!!.

You got what you pay for in this hotel. The room was fine but the bathroom was slightly dirty and the facilities in the room quite basic. The breakfast was poor enough and what put me off totally was the fact that you had to toast your own bread! Although the staff were very friendly and helpful which was great, and the hotel itself was very central, i wouldnt recommend this hotel.

Staff were nice, room was clean and comfortable. Close to pubs and night clubs. Only complaint would be that the night time disco area is used to eat breakfast from in the morning, the smell of stale smoke and drink puts you off eating.

Top Local Tips for Edinburgh

Ceol agus craic! Couple of bars just off The Royal Mile (Cockburn St) where there are live bands on, you'll have great craic, especially on a sunday afternoon/evening!

eating out I would recommend the food at The Albarnach bar on the High Street.

Get a good map We would have been horribly lost in Edinburgh if not for our map. There are so many windy streets to explore linked by small alleyways and knee-killing stairs. Often we ended up somewhere different than we planned by just following our noses. The pop out map put out by Compass is great, easy enough to put in a pocket, lists attractions as well as hotels, and only £1.50.
