Historical Traveller Reviews of Royal Garden Apartments Hotel

Character Apartment...would like to move in!!

from A TripAdvisor Member
For our British friends we tend to resemble a cross between VICTOR MELDREW and MRS BOUQUET in quite how fussy we are regarding our high expectations for holiday accomodation. However, we are delighted to say the Royal Garden Apartments were exceptional!! We were given a free upgrade once the staff found out it was a trip to celebrate our anniversary. The apartment oozed historical character and charm- and was just about the size of our house at home! (ONE TIP IS ASK FOR A GARDEN VIEW AS THESE ARE EXTREMELY QUIET). The carpets were rather tired and in need of replacement and a larger douvet for the huge SuperKing sized bed would have been nice - but this would be unfair to focus on as the apartments were like stepping back in time!! For any American readers desiring Scottish charm - this is the place for you (unless you prefer to be miles away in one of the $500 a night castles outside Edinburgh). The staff could not do more - especially the delightful Maureen and Brenda!! BEAUTIFUL!! (the hotel and the staff!!) We did learn that an American family had been staying at the apartments for 6 months and were very envious!!Please can we move in??!!

Great for families

I have just returned from a family wedding In Edinburgh where we stayed at Royal Garden Apartments-family member who stays on business recommended it.

All I can say is wonderful-the wedding was at The Royal Physicians Hall-Queen Street-two minutes walk. Great spacious apartments-we all met up in our Penthouse the night before-great to be able to have friends and family pop by and feel all relaxed. Staff could not do enough-we managed to get an early check-in and a late departure-Mum had arranged for food and drinks to be delivered.

We had photos taken on the balcony and then outside in Queen Street Gardens-even although we were all blue with cold by this time! What fantastic views.

Very informal and great for all those with children-they offer cots, high chairs, toys, baby bath, etc and a souvenir bear.

All in all a great weekend.

Fabulous Royal Garden Aoartments

from Londonjack
Just returned from the Royal garden Apartments. Found it by reviews on tripadvisor. It's a great place and we were extremely satisfied. Directly across from the Scottish National Portrait Gallery. That came in handy when we were too sick with colds to travel far that day.

The staff at the Apartments were super! Every single one...nothing was too much to ask. They treated us like royalty. Nice feature is the complimentary coffee, fruit and muffins in the morning, and wine in the evening. They even gave my daughter a souvenir teddy bear. There was never a shortage of enthusiastic directionals or recommendations for eateries, etc.

Everyone paid great personal attention to whether we were feeling better, needed anything, or enoyed our days out.

To be fair to tripadvisor, we had two issues. The dishwasher was broken, but promptly fixed early the next day. By the time we returned home to the US, the manager had already mailed a letter apologizing for the inconvenience. Nice touch!

Also, I had read a review about cleanliness. The apartment itself was spotless with really nice bathrooms and kitchen. In our 2 Br, we had one bathrrom with full tub, and one bathroom with modern shower.

The housekeepers cleaned the kitchens thoroughly, and even hand-washed our dishes on the day of the broken dishwasher. I would agree the carpets throughout could use an upgrade. They were still kept clean and vacuumed, but, if I had a toddler who crawls, it might be up to par.

This place was a really great stay. Our apartment (#27) had a 3 corner view of 1. Queen street and the beautiful architecture of the Gallery, 2. long shot of Queen Street, and 3) overlooking a spectaular English Garen with backdrop of the river and Fife. The service at the hotel is 5-star which really made our vacation even better.

The location is definitely upper class vs the Royal Mile area.

After we left, we stayed in a similar establishment in London, and believe me, I really appreciated the Royal Gardens after that.

The photos on their website look exactly like the real thing. Sainsbury's is around the corner and open until 10pm. Marks & Spencers is also close by but not open as late, and there's a reasonable walk to the nearest Boots on Princes Street.

Staying in Enchanting Edinburgh

I booked the Royal Garden Apartments on a recommendation - and I was more than happy with the choice.
The first thing was the location-perfect! My friends and I were in heaven, Harvey Nichols and the shops in Princes Street and George Street all within 2 minutes. We were also delighted with the new bars and restaurants in George Street, not having been to the city for a couple of years, they had to be tried out. The Apartments have a discount arrangement with a couple of Restaurants, so this was ideal for girls on a budget, more to spend in the shops.
The welcome could not have been better-friendly and helpful staff, nothing was too much trouble. We had booked a two bedroom Superior Apartment that had a large lounge area, dining table and a fitted kitchen. We actually had our friends round for drinks and found that Apartments are for us now, not hotels!Staying at the Royal Garden, you can use a wonderful Health Spa which is only a 10 minute walk away and this is free.
There is also a complimentary breakfast with deliceous muffins, fruit, coffee, teas and COMPLIMENTARY WINE in the evening.
One small draw back for longer staying guests, there is not a washer/drier in the Apartment, but there is a guest laundry you can use.
I can highly recommend Royal Garden Apartments for their accommodation, their friendly staff and the wonderful location.

Home from home in Edinburgh

The Royal Garden Apartments are wonderfully situated right in the centre of Edinburgh, on Queen Street, opposite the National Portrait Gallery of Scotland - one minute from Harvey Nicks and one block away from Princes Street and Waverley Station.
The staff are wonderfully welcoming and the apartments are beautifully appointed with a complimentary breakfast and all day bar with fruit, drinks and little bits to eat. Really a home from home for families and long stays as well as leisure weekends

We have stayed in many places all over the world, but the Royal Garden Apartments come top of our list. The staff could not do enough for you and always had smiles. the rooms were so spacious and clean and the position of the apartments could not be better. Next time we are in Edinburgh we will definitely stay there again. Thank you Royal Garden for a great time

Home away from home

We stayed for 3-1/2 weeks at the Royal Garden Apartments
(Why? Relocation, but being new to Edinburgh – we also arrived with tourist needs in mind!).

Helpful, friendly staff – quick to respond to requests.
Efficient cleaners – eager to please
(tip: use the ‘private’ sign as these people can start work early!).
Clean and modern facilities (café attached)
Good self-catering facilities (note: close to food stores)
Easy to use washer and dryer facilities (they provide wash powder)
Excellent location - minutes from Princes St
Quiet

In our opinion suitable for anyone

We felt safe, and well cared for!

Stay Here!!!!!!!!

from oceanwitch
This is an excellent apartment hotel. The rooms are immaculate, very well furnished and the staff very friendly and efficient. Security of the hotel is guarded by the fact that the main entrance to the lobby is not accessible after dark. To enter, one slides their entrance card in the slot in a door next to the lobby. During the day, in order to exit the lobby area, one slides their card into the slot in the door that leads to the quarters. We arrived by bus from Glasgow, and were delighted to find the the bus station is one half block from the hotel; however, we never heard any buses entering or leaving the station. (Most tour buses leave from this station also)
There is an incredible deli just across the street, and the main part of town is certainly walking distance and this is definitely a walking town.
Life could not have been better!!!!

Stylish and well situated

We stayed for two nights. They'd upgraded us to a 2 bed apartment - which was nice of them. First night we were in a street facing apartment and we asked to be moved to a garden view on 2nd night - no problems at all. We're from a busy city so wanted a more tranquil scene over the gardens. Really nice staff, stylish building, great location in smart part of the city and far enough away from busy Princes Street. Massive apartments, brightly decorated and well equipped. Nice touches with coffee and wine in reception area, muffins and fruit for breakfast, computer with internet access. Also free access to Queen Street Gardens and a health spa at another hotel. Complimentary milk, water, tea, coffee and washing up liquid in apartment and also use of snuggly bathrobes. CD's, TV, DVD player in rooms with free DVD's for hire downstairs (although a bit dodgy - take your own and some CD's). Great deli brings food in from over the road - free delivery and literally minutes walk from Princes Street and 10 minutes from the Royal Mile and the Castle. We're really glad we stayed here.

Portrait Gallery Free and very interesting

Valvona and Croll Go to the Vincaffe on Multrees walk for the best italian food I have ever tasted. Ask them to recommend a wine to go with your food. They'll pick something fab and never ever try and sell you the most expensive one.
